Question: Hello Doctor, I am Priya from Bangalore, I would like to disclose my personal problems to you. I would be very thankful if you can help me. I am now 21yrs old and married on 11.12.2005, since then I am trying to become pregnant but still I have not conceived. As of I wanted to even inform you about my other problem which I faced in the earlier days. I was addicted of eating mud; clay and Chalk pieces from the age of 15yrs to 19yrs. will all this is a problem for me to conceive? And now after the ultra sound scan done I came to know that I even have PCOs. I have been put on Gliciphage SR 150mg (once in the morning only) form June 2006. And again when I had a recent Ultra sound scan done still I had PCOD. So doctor asked me to stop the tablet. She said me to get the Uterus X-Ray done so the to find out whether there is any block in the uterus pipe. Now I am scared whether mud or clay would have blocked somewhere. She also asked my husband to get the semen test done.

Now my question is:
1. Whether the mud or clay would have blocked somewhere in the uterus.
2. What test should be done to find it or can we know it through the X- Ray report.
3. And what is the treatment, if it has blocked in uterus.

Please help me out by answering this doctor, and this is my second mail to you because I did not receive any reply for the first.
Answer: I have already answered this question. please check for the answer on the website. Anyway, having eaten mud will not cause any problem. Do an HSG and let me know the result, so I can advice you further.

Question: I am 32 yrs old. I have conceived for about one and a half month ago. The doctor has prescribed me (1) Tab. Duphaston 10mg (twice daily) and (2) Injection Prolution Depot (10mg) 1 injection each week (total 16wks). I am married for about 2 yrs, but having no child yet. So, I was too worried. My doctor is considering this as "valuable Pregnancy". Now my question, is `Duphaston' and inj, `Prolution Depot' can cause any sort of malformation in my baby. Please reply
Answer: Duphaston is absolutely safe. I do not give proluton depot, so you will have to check with your obstetrician regarding that.

Question04: Hello Doc, I am pregnant of about 6 wks. I am taking the followings:
(1) Tab. Duphaston 10mg- 1tab twice daily.
(2) Inj. PROLUTION DEPOT- 1 inj.each week for long next 16 wks.
(3) Folic Acid+Zinc Sulphate
My question is, should i take injection along with the duphaston. I am scared whehter Prolution Depot may cause any danger to my unborn baby.
Are the other drugs ok?
Pl. helps me.
Answer: Items 1 & 2 are absolutely safe. I do not give proluton depot, so you will have to check with your obstetrician regarding that.

Question05: Can very vigourous sexual intercourse be responsible for prompting the start of mensuration?
Answer: No ! However, it may cause some vaginal lacerations and give slight spotting for a few hours.

Question: Dear Doctor, I had my periods only twice from the age of 14 years. Right now I m 25 years and married. I took my uterus scan which shows " uterus is anteverted & measures 5.3cm*3.3cm*2.1cm with endometrial thickness of 5mm. No focal myometrial lesion is seen. Ovaries are normal size and multiple immature follicles seen. Right ovary was not seen on transvaginal scan but seen on transabdominal scan. Rt. ovary: 2.9cm*2.8cm*2.3cm (volume: 10.5sec) Lt. ovary: 3.8cm*2.9cm*2.3cm(volume: 13.6cc) No adnexal mass noted. There is no free fluid in pelvis. Before marriage Apollo Hospital Doctor prescribed a tablet called provera for 45 days once and i got my periods. I stopped from 3rd cycle, fear of putting weight or any other side affects. Again few days’ back I went to doctor, she prescribed me Glyciphage 500mg thrice daily, premarin for 21 days and mephrate from 14th day to 21st day to get my periods for 1 year. Now my question is whenever I take tablets I feel very drowsy and weak. Why so? Next will i become pregnant in future? Is there any side effect like putting weight and etc? Please advise what to do further. Thanks

Answer: You probably have polycystic ovaries. Have your FSH and LH hormones done on the second day of the period and let me know the results. Also, repeat this question again with the result, as I do not have any record of the previous questions.

Question: Dear Doctor, In this communication I would like to take your attention on my abnormal pregnancies relating matter.

First time I was pregnant after 1 year of my marriage in 2005 and that time I was 22. In the 6 month, my doctor was suddenly told me after ultrasound that your baby can deliver any time so better you take complete rest. Then I did the same, but after on 10th day blooding was started. The girl baby was delivered pre-maturely. Then Doctor suggested us to keep that baby in ICU and we did the same but that child was died due to non-development & continues weight loosing.

Second time I was pregnant again after 7 months of first failure pregnancy. And in the 5th month, I got severe lower pain and felt uncomfortable suddenly, and then we had gone to hospital in next half an hour. After checking me and my child, doctor said that child is already died in uterus, pulse was stopped. Then doctor delivered died boy child.

Third time we were too keen to get very good treatment and we did the same. There was some problem to got pregnant third time easily. So doctor suggested us to transfer semen scientifically into vagina and produce an egg. Because doctor was guessing infection as a reason for pre mature delivery. And after this process doctor was much sure about no chromosomes defect, genetic problem and other infection this time. I had gone through so many tests i.e hematology, diabetes test, immunology, VDRL, Australia antigen (HBsAg) test elisa, thyroid function tests, emzyme linked immuno assay, insulin, testosterone, urine examination and whole abdomen ultrasound. And as per my doctor all reports were totally fine.

I had gone through with every month ultrasonic examination and I was on complete bed rest. This time doctor was much sure about successful pregnancy. But this time also happened the same in the 6th month of pregnancy, like the previous one delivery. I got quick pain at midnight for 2 minutes only, then I gone to pass urine, and after 5-10 minute I got a normal sleep, and then I awaken again at 4:00 AM to pass urine. Then I felt uncomfortable, laziness and unconsciousness BUT not pain, then we decided to go to hospital. We reached to hospital in 5-10 minutes. As per doctor the child was died 6-7 hours before in uterus itself and doctors had to did lots of work to open the mouth of uterus this time. My doctor was not wanted to repeat the first time pregnancy, so she had given me treatment to better maintain uterus size and flexibility for child development.

Finally they did the job but I lost my child third time once again. The main thing is that there were not many symptoms to identify the reasons of miscarriages for doctor. It had happened just before one month.

Now, I need your help on this matter. You are requested to guide me to get a healthy child this time. I shall be very thankful to you if you will suggest me for any other test/treatment and the possible guidance from your end.

I am looking for your mail.
Thank you very much,
Meenakshi,
India
Answer: Sorry to hear about your problems. You have repeated second trimester abortions , so a tightening of os at 12 weeks would help. During your next pregnancy, discuss with your doctor regarding cervical cerclage at 12-13 weeks. Also, take a uterine relaxant like duvadilan or yutopar. Let me know once you are pregnant and I will advice you further. All the best!

Answer: You probably have polycystic ovaries and metformin has been given for that , as it helps you ovulate.Confirm with your gynec. regarding that. Also, you can be given clomid tablets to help you ovulate. Have an ultrasound done on the 12th day of the period after taking the clomid and let me know the result. Which city are you in ? Your husband can be given some medication also to improve his count .

Question: I have been diagnosed possibly with pcos ( i have several symptoms) but I also have a child and have been regular up until i had a miscarriage in 2006. I am on metformin and I am overweight trying to lose weight. My situation is as follows. The first week of March I had a cycle and on the 14th day, which should have been my ovulation, I got another cycle. Now today I had a discharge of mucous secretion. Does that mean I am going to be ovulationg or I am ovulating or none of the above. Please advise. Thank you

Answer: Ultrasound is the best way to determine the size of the follicle and the most fertile period. If you are not ovulating, you might need clomid tablets. The cervical mucus thickens a day or two after ovulation, so it is not very reliable. All the best!

Question: Good Day, One Dr has diagnosed me that I have Polycystic Ovaries. However my gynecologist says I do not because I get a period every 28 days like clockwork. I do get all the telltale signs of ovulation, twinges in the ovary and the "eggwhite" discahrge mid cycle. However I am insulin resistant and my ovaries "appear" polycystic on an ultrasound. My question is can I still be polycystic and get a period every 28 days?

Answer: You can have polycystic ovaries on ultrasound, but still ovulate and have regular periods. However, have an ultrasound done on the 12th day of the period to know whether you are ovulating or not and which is your most fertile period. Have you done a fasting insulin test ? What was the value ( and the range )?

Question: Doctor I have been married since last 2 years. I do not have a kid yet. I am overweight. My doctor is suggesting me to take metamorphin. I want to become pregnant. Is it possible to become pregnant even though I am overweight?

Answer: Yes, as long as you are ovulating, your weight will not reduce the chances of conception. However, if you have PCOS ( polycystic ovarian syndrome ), and are not ovulating, losing weight , together with certain drugs like clomid, will help you ovulate.

Question: I'm concerned. I's currently on yaz and on the third week I missed Friday and saturday of the pack. In accordance with the instructions I took a new pill on Sunday. It's been over a week and I'm still having my period. Is this normal?

Answer: Once you forget a tablet , you might get bleeding for a longer period. If you are still bleeding, do a pregnancy test to ensure that you are not pregnant. If it is negative, take dicynone tablets, one tablet three times a day for 3 days to stop the bleeding.

Question: Last year I had to have a cyst removed from my left ovary. last week I had a miscarriage at 12 weeks pregnant. Could the miscarriage be due to the surgery I had last year?

Answer: No .

Question: I did 5 Ivf with known doctors of mumbai. now I am fed-up. my husband's reports are very good. problems are in my body. I want to ask you that can we do IUI with my sister. I mean my husband's sperm and my sister's utras and her eggs too. please reply me.

Answer: Sorry to hear about your IVF failures. I agree that it is frustrating, but I am sure things will work out for you ! What is your age ? Are you ovulating ? Are your tubes patent ? Let me know , so I can advice you further.

Question: Dear Doctor, Hi I am abhijit 31, my wife (23 years of age) marrride for 3 years and me trying for baby about one year under doctor treatement. My wife suffring with PCO and was pregent by taking syphene 0.5 mg and progesteron 200 mg , but that ended with miscarriage after two month. our doctor advise us to take babby after three month from miscarriage and advise to take Letros and visit to doctor at the 21 th day when we will try. when we asked to doctor that what are resons of miscarriage, he said egg was not fully developed, but we not satisfied with the ansewer, because if egg not fully developed how it was fertilised by sperm? please make clear to us about that point. My wife continuing glycephase 500 mg twice dailly. Another question is that even the medicine pair syphene and rogesterone was succesful for pregnacy why secon cases he advising letros. Blood test result of my wife suggest that Progesterone level is low.
Please advise us.

Answer: Sorry to hear about the miscarriage. Siphene or letroz both are fine. The egg must have formed well , but not the fetus. This could be due to chromosomal abnormalities in the fetus or certain infections . Have a toxoplasmosis IgM done and let me know the result, so I can advice you further.

Question: I take duphaston tablet for five days, before I've been delayed for almost 10 days I got my pregnancy test and the result was negative. So my OB gave me duphaston tablet I'll take it for 5 days but still I don't have the period. what I might to do..?

Answer: The period usually comes after 5- 10 days of stopping duphaston. Do you have irregular periods or PCO ? Why are you taking duphaston so often?

My period has been hectic, I was bleeding 2-3 times per month, very heavy with only 7 days (if lucky)with no bleeding. My GP gave me the pill to regulate me with no success, I then got the jag, again with no luck, she then put the coil in but it had to be taken away as it fell out and was giving me alot of pain. The past 2 months my period has been regular, only 2 days early, so I had a cycle of 26 days. I would love to have another baby but I havent been using any contreception since the coil almost 2 and a half yrs ago but nothing is happening, could you please advise me on what you think my problem could be.My GP has referred me to the hospital on which I am just waiting for the appointment.

Answer: Have an ultrasound done to rule out the presence of a fibroid or an ovarian cyst. If this is normal, have your thyroid hormones checked. Let me know the results of all these , so I can advice you further.

Question: My period has been irregular what could be the cause. Please help.

Answer: Do you have PCO ? Are your thyroid hormones normal ?
