Question: Dear doctor, I have PCOS and using medicines for the last 11/2 year and there is no response. I have so many questions to be answered. please rectify my questions. I am taking clomifene citrate tablets from the 2nd day of menstruation for five days and also cyproterone acetate tablets (krimson 35), and meprate tablets from the 14th day of menstruation to order to get pregnancy. i am taking all these tablets from the last 6 months, but there is no progress at all. i am very depressed and not knowing what to do. my gynecologist has asked me to take these tablets for another two months and then she will think about laparoscopy, but i am quite upset from then because of laparoscopy. is this process safe or there is any other thing to proceed with. some of my friends are prescribing homeopathy, what is ur suggestion. my main goal is to become pregnant.

Answer: If you are trying for pregnancy, why has cyproterone acetate been given ? Clomiphene is fine. Are you monitoring your ovulation by ultrasound ? With what dose of clomid are you ovulating and how many follicles do you form ? What is your husband's semen report? Have you done a hysterosalpingography to check your tubes ? Let me know all this, so I can advice you further. If you are ovulating , you should conceive, so stop worrying ! If clomid is fine, I do not think you require homeopathy.

Question: Hi, I m 22 yrs old. I have pcos. I was taking birth control pill, yasmin fr 6 mnths nd was gettin my periods on time. bt once i stopped takin pills it was regular few mnths (35-40 days. I started the medication in jan06 nd stopped june06. i had sex 2 weeks back.my last period was 1st feb 07, nw frm 4 days m gettin pinkish/brownish blood. today m gettin proper blood colour discharge bt the flow is very less. can u pls xactly xplain & suggest wat nd y is all this? i nvr had such weird periods before. m sure tht sperm was nt gone in my vagina at all. thanks

Answer: PCOS is associated with irregular periods. While you were on the pills, the periods would be regular and then get irregular while you were off the pill. The scanty bleeding you had was probably a period. However, do a urine test for pregnancy to ensure that you are not pregnant.

Question: I have tried out two contraceptive pills and both have caused problems for me. I took Nordette and had acute nausea (to the point of throwing up) during just before and during sex. I then took Marvelon and when I stopped it my periods continued for 2 weeks (my normal periods lst 4 days). I need to delay my periods thi month and am not sure which pill to take. Can you please help?

Answer: It is difficult to advice you without seeing you. If you are is Muscat, you can take an appointment - 24563181 , and I can advice you further.

Question: I m tring to coneive for last 15 months but could not. My doctor suggested four tests that are ultra sound, blood c.p esr, fastning insulin, serum prolactin which are all o.k know I wanted to know what is the cause of not conceiving? I m so much tensed.

Answer: I have to know whether you are ovulating or not. Were your follicles ( "eggs" ) normal when you did the scan? If that has not been determined, do a scan on day 12 of the period. What about your husband's semen? Is that normal ? Let me know , so I can advice you further.

Question: When I was 18 years old I began taking birth control through the patch method. I am now 22 and have decided to switch from the patch to the pill. The clinic I go to prescribed the minipill to me because of the frequent headaches that I get. I also have a problem with my hormones where my body does not produce enough estrogen. Recently after going off the patch I came down with strong upper abdomen pains, it lasted for about 3 days and I was taking the minipill while this was going on. When the pains went away I started to get a brown oderless discharge. My periods before the patch consisted of this and usually went on for about 3 weeks. I also took 2 pregnancy tests before I started the minipill. It is now March and I have not had any sexual encounters since the end of January. Is it possible that the brown discharge is caused by my low production of estrogen? And if so do you think it would be a good idea for me to get back on a method which contains estrogen?

Answer: The minipill can cause some menstrual irregularities. Have you tried Yasmin ? That is a low- dose combined pill with mimimal side effects. Consult your gynec. before using this to determine if that would be fine for you.

Question: Hi, I have polycystic ovaries, I have given ovafar for 5th - 10 thh day of period. Also Dupheston from 11th day to 25 th day. But by mistake I started both tab from 5 th day . Is there any problem to start ovafar and Dupheston on the same day.?

Answer: You may not ovulate if you start duphaston from the 5th day. Usually, duphaston is given after you ovulate.

Question: Dear Doctor, I am 17 years old and for probably a year now in between my periods i get this white creamy discharge.. im not sure what it is and im becoming really worried, at first i thought it might just go away and it hasnt. im planning on getting my first pap smear soon but am a little scared. Ive read up a little on chlamydia and am worried because how people have discribed it seems similar to my case; in relation to the discharge ofcourse. am i over reacting? or is this abnormal and theres something wrong with me? please help. Thank You

Answer: A clear discharge around mid- cycle is common and due to ovulation.A creamy discharge maybe due to a vaginal infection. Have a vaginal smear done to determine whether you have any infection and the type of infection. Medication can be given according to the result of that.

Question: I am 39 years old & I want to get preggnant please advise the best way to go about it

Answer:  You must see a fertility specialist and conceive soon. You should be aware that the chances of fetal abnormalities increase with advancing age, so the sooner you get pregnant, the better.

Question: Dear Doc, We are married since more than 1 yr,i am trying to get pregnant but failed. I have irregular periods. My Doc. advised me Aloes compound(90 tab),pregmate, femix, and finally she has advised fertyl super, & ovulation study. Do you really think it will help me

Answer: Are you ovulating ? What is your husband's semen report? Have you done a hysterosalpingography to check your tubes ? Let me know all this, so I can advice you further.Fertyl would help you ovulate. All the best!

Question: Question: I have noticed some bumps occuring on my penis and scrotum that is very itch. However fungal creams such as schederma removes them but they keep coming back at different ares on the penis and scorum. About two weeks after I develop an all over itch all over my body but no bumps. I need an answer please.

I saw a earlier post on this website that seems to be related this is it below. I need tou to ask this person what his test reveals and please tell me. Please this constant itch is beeb killing me for the past three months (ive been feeling itchy all over my body, I mostly feel it on my back shoulders and mostly my head, the dandrif I do have is minimal and has never bothered me like this before, I continue to rub my eyes from itching, and I get these small red bumps not really filled with pus or anything, just about the size of a thick pencil mark, I must say that I did have sex with a girl that I heard had Hep C and later I also heard she might have had aids, I am going to take a blood test within this week but am unsure what exactly this will be. Thanks Doc

Answer: Without examination it is difficult to guess the diagnosis with your description alone. Please consult a dermatologist.)

Answer: A dermatologist would be able to help you, rather than a gynecologist!

Question: I am 31 and have been trying to conceive for 12 months. My hormone tests, blood work, pelvic ultrasound and my husbands semen analysis reports are all normal. My gynec had put me on clomid for 2 months. I did ovulate both the cycles but had severe side effects like nausea, pain in ovary around ovulation etc. She asked me to switch over to letrozole 2.5 mg from days 2-6.I am about to start my 2nd cycle on letrozole. Plz let me know if letrozole works better than clomid and whether it has any side effects in the long run. Seeing that I am a very healthy individual with no history of any kind of disease in the past (i have not even had a flu or a cold for the past 15 years or so) my doctor has ruled out the possibility of a tubal blockage. Is she right or do i need to get it checked? Thanks in advance....

Answer: It would be advisable to check your tubes, even though you have been healthy. If the tubes are normal, you can try IUI( intra- uterine insemination ), as that may increase your chances of conception. All the best!

Question: Hi doctor. I am emyrose 24 & have 2 kids, a 2-yr old & a 9-mo. old baby. my first menstruation happened December 2006. the 2nd occurred last feb.19, 2007. i still breasfeed my baby 1-2 times a at night because i go to office in the morning. i have an unprotected sex with my husband last march 13, 2007. now, i am worrying about the delay of my menstruation. is it possible that i am pregnant now? please help. thanks.

Answer: If you are ovulating, you may get pregnant. Do a urine test for this. One does get irregular periods while breast- feeding. However, it would be advisable to use some contraceptives if you do not wish to get pregnant now.

Question: I currently trying to get pregnant. I am in my forties and have hypo-thyroid disorder. My period has not been for four months is it possible to become pregnant? Could my thyroid medication be causing me to not have a period? I did notstrart having problems with my period until my dosage of medicstion was increased, and my hair is thinning also. Please help!!

Answer: Hypothyroidism may cause irregular periods. Since you wish to conceive, it is essential to determine whether you are ovulating or not. Have a scan done on day 12 of the period. This will determine whether you are ovulating or not. Also, check your husband's semen and your fallopian tubes. Let me know the results, so i can advice you further.

And from this past two yrs we are trying to concieve but no effect our doctor put me on clomid and at 4 month I concieved but within 6 weeks it was miscarriage. Now it is fourth month since this happened. My querie is can I concieve naturally now or should i take clomid again? pls suggest. Thank you.

Answer: Sorry to hear about your miscarriage. If you are ovulating, you do not require clomid. If you are not, it would help to take clomid. All the best!

Question: I have previously taken clomid 50mg days 4-9 and developed cyst that ruptured and bled internally. I have had all tests done on me and husband to see if any abnormalities. They said everything looked good. Last ultrasound showed 3 follicles. I have a 5 yr. old. We have been trying for 3 yrs. What are the percentages of using clomid and is there a good possibility of recurring cysts? Do you have any other suggestions? Periods are somewhat irregular as is the luteal phase 7-12 days

Answer: Are your fallopian tubes normal ? What dose of clomid are you using? It would be advisable to use a low dose , as when you form many follicles, the chances of multiple pregnancies, and hyperstimulation of then ovaries increase. You can use certain injections like fostimon, puregon or gonal- f instead of clomid. All the best!

Question: Hello, I am a 29 year old female that has had three wonderful healthy children. We are trying for our last planned child, but have been dissapointed with three miscarriages in a row. One of the pregnancies was at 18 weeks. My husband and I did a lot of blood work, and the results were as follows. Lymphocyte compatibility came back abnormal. We are to take prednisone. My husband is a rn and he is refusing to take that drug, and believes it is a horrible drug. Also test came back low positive for antiphospholipid syndrome...was is that? I am to take a baby aspirin daily. Finally my testosterone level which is stated normal levels in my results letter is 0-9.5, and my level came back at 23. Is that really high, and I am to take metformin. I don't understand why all these results came back the way they did. Are these really the cause of my miscarriages? I don't understand the compatibility test at all! Why are my testosterones levels so high? My husband is really upset about dr.'s wanti

Answer: Sorry to hear about your problems. Do you have PCOS ( polycystic ovarian syndrome ) ? This maybe accompanied with a high testosterone. Anyway, the prednisolone would help for that. Aspirin is fine. Since you have had a miscarriage at 18 weeks, you might have an incompetent cervix, which might require " tightening of os " during the pregnancy. What about the other 2 miscarriages? At what gestational age did they ocuur and did the fetus grow well then ? Let me know, so i can advice you further.
