Question

Hello, I had a miscarriage at 16 weeks due to pre term labor, and that was 9 months ago. My husband and I are still very earger to have a baby but I have not been able to conceive since my miscarriage. I have regular periods and I do the at home ovulation test each month. My husband was informed that he has a low sprem count and that the sperm were slow. The Dr. advised to change to boxers instead of briefs and to not be in hot water for long, which we have done. What do you suggest to increase his sperm count. Is there a medication he can take? thank you very much.

Answer

Please send me the semen report, so I can advice you further. In the meantime, you can start taking folic acid tablets-- one a day. Let me know which city you are living in, so I can advice you regarding medication.

Question

Hi Doc.For the last three months i have been seeing a dark yellowy discharge that has a scent, and flows unussually heavy. Sometines the overture of vagina kips itch or just feel real discojmfort. Doc said I am fine. What could this mean.

Answer

You can use momenta or travocort ointment on the vulva twice a day for 5 days to reduce the vulval itching. Regarding your discharge, use polygynax vaginal pessaries for 6 nights. If the problem persists, have a vaginal smear done to determine the type of infection you have and take appropriate treatment.

Question

I have itchiness of the vagina and now it has spread throughout the whole body but have no discharge or what but only rush like things on my labia.the doctor says one of my ovaries is too big and is surrounded by water, what could this be and how can i get rid of the itchiness

Answer

You probably have a dry skin or an allergy to some foodstuff or drug as the itching is all over your body. Use oilatum soap and claritine tablets once a day for 5 days for that. If it does not settle, see a dermatologist. Regarding your vulval itching, use travocort or momenta ointment twice a day for 5 days. Let me know the ultrasound report concerning your ovary, so I can advice you further.

Question

I am 30 years old and i had galactorreh problem 3yrs back, my doctor adviced me not to take any medicines cos my prolactin level and my periods is normal.8 months back i had a missed miscarrige and my doctors did a D&C, now i am again pregnant of 8 weeks my doctors took an ultrasound on 5th week and said it is too early to detect the fetus pulze rate and prescribed me ecosprin 75 mg,susten 200 mg (twice in a day for fiften days) and folic tablets and askd me to come on 30th of this month.

I dont have any spotting right now or sharp abdominal pain, but i feel all my pregnancy symptoms are reducing day by day i am scared of miscarrige. Will this tablets lead to miscarrige or any other problem to my baby. Please advise.

Answer

All these medicines are fine and may make the fetus grow well. However, I suggest that you repeat the ultrasound at 7 weeks of pregnancy to ensure that the fetus is growing well. All the best ! Let me know the result of your next scan.

Question

I went to the doctor(12/19/06) and he gave me provera 10mg to take for 10days, be cause i've missed two periods, he only gave me a pee test to test for pregnancy and didn't do anything else? should i go to another doctor and have a blood test done to see what is wrong?

Answer

You can reconfirm by doing the beta hcg blood test. However, if you have already finished the provera , wait for 5 days and if you do not get a period, check the blood then. Also, once you get a period, do an ultrasound on day 5 of the period to check whether you have an ovarian cyst which may delay the periods at times.

Hello dr I'm frm india(navi mum).i'm37 & hubby is 39 we r among those cuple whose reason of infertility cannot explain.our all reports r fine.this mnth dr put me on clome frm day4 fr 5days.did sonography on 15th day of cycle.there were 4 develop follicle & one of which was rupture so dr gave me injection to rupture other follicles on same day & did iui on 17th day of my cycle.he gave me tab gestin fr 10 days.dr, the concern is normally on day 16th or 17th my nipple starts paining evry mnth & after few day breast also starts paining last till i get my periods.this time also on the day of my iui (which was 17th day) nipple starts paining & on 22nd day breast has just started paining.frm 18th day i started secreting watery white dischagre .my question is

4) does paining of breast nipple means iui is failed? pls pls pls dr reply soon as early as possible.pl.......s.
5) does the paining of breast & nipple is premenustral sign?

Answer

The breast pain is due to congestion of the breasts due to the hormone changes following ovulation.Regarding your questions:
1) You can conceive even if the breasts pain
2) 15 days after the IUI
3) If the discharge is thick and curdy, it could be due to vaginal fungal infection
4) NO
5) Pain indicates ovulation, so could be present even pre-period or during pregnancy

Question

Dear Doctor, I am 30 yrs. I am 5'4'', 65 kg. I have PCO, the only symptom I have is irregular periods. I had become pregnant naturally but unfortunately was an ectopic pregnancy and my left tube was removed due to rupture. Please tell me the chances of concieving again and are there any steps to prevent an ectopic from happening again. Is PCO and ectopic related? Should I do anything to regularize my periods.Kindly help me. Thank you.

Answer

Sorry to hear about your ectopic. You can conceive again whenever the follicle (egg) is formed in the right ovary. There is no correlation between PCO and ectopic pregnancy.Have an ultrasound done to determine when the follicle is forming and whether it is on the right side. If the follicle is not forming, you may require clomid tablets. If you are ovulating, you do not need to regularize your periods with anything else. Before you plan again, have a hysterosalpingography ( X ray ) done to ensure that the right tube is fine.

Question

I'm 8 weeks pregnant when the doctor did the ultrasound she said there were two sacks in my uturus but only one baby in one sack and nothing in the other. Why is that sack there and could it be harmful to the growth of the baby?

Answer

It is possible that one fetus has grown and the other has not . The ac without the fetus may shrink in size or remain the same and you do not need to worry about that as long as one fetus is growing well.

Question

Dear Doc, Plzz help me. Am very much confused & worried with one serious problem.

I'm 24 years old & my husband is 29. We got married on 12th Jan '05. We have been trying for a baby since Jan '06 but in vain.

In August '06 I was detected that I've a cyst in my left ovary & this is not allowing me to conceive...Does Cyst stops from conceiving??

We are very anxious to have a baby. Even my husband also feels that we should have a baby now......i'm very much worried about this. Please help me as to what to do next??

I consulted a doc & she has asked me to take a tab CLOFERT 50 for 5 days from 10th day of my periods. I had my periods on 12th of this month. So 10th day comes to 21st...right?? Please advice.

One more thing is doc I used to take PILL 72 during the beginning days of my marriage......does that cause any effect??

I did the Ovulation Study & was detected as unovulatory. I am ready to anything to have a baby.

Eagerly waiting for your reply doc.

Answer

RELAX ! Let me know the size of the cyst. Also, have you been monitored for ovulation by ultrasound after taking the clofert? This would indicate your fertile period. You can ovulate even if you have a cyst.

Answer

Sorry to hear about your problem . It would be advisable to do a blood test - beat hcg. If this value is above 5 , you are still pregnant. Repeat the value 48 hours later and see whether the value is falling or rising. This may indicate a tube pregnancy( ectopic). Let me know the results, so I can advice you further.

Question

Hi, I had a miscarriage 6 months ago on the 37th day. I had my last period on 20th Nov 2006. about 19 days after the beginning of the cycle i had all the symptoms that I had during the earlier miscarriage - dark brown discharge which increases as I walk or stand, but reduces if i lie down flat.

My doctor has prescribed me duphaston-progesterone supplement for 10 days, that is till the 30th day of my cycle.

After taking 3 tablets the discharge has significantly reduced and am no longer in bed rest. Now i have 2 questions,

1. She has asked me to take this tablet from the 20th day for 10 days and asked me to stop taking. she told me if i get my period within the next 1 week then am not pregnant, otherwise asked me to go for a pregnancy test. my question is what if i miscarry because i stopped taking the progesterone supplement.
2. Because i had the dark brown discharge for 3 days will there be any retardation in the growth of the baby?
I forgot to ask these to my doctor, your reply will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks ahead,

Answer

Have you done the pregnancy test? If not, do a blood test - beta hcg. Also do a vaginal ultrasound to determine the presence of a sac within the uterus. Let me know the results, so I can advice you further. Continue the duphaston till 12 weeks of pregnancy. All the best !
