Question,

Hello, I am 24 and have been on birth control for about six months. I have always had regular periods. However, during this month when I should have been on my monthly cycle I only bleed very lightly for about half a day or so then it just stopped. I did miss two pills in the third week of the pack and made then up ASAP, had intercourse the day before I missed the pills however, did not have intercourse for about a week to be on the safe side; but it has been a week and I still have not got my full cycle is this normal? I was wondering if the birth control might have changed my menstrual flow in some way? Should I wait until next month to see if my period returns to normal before I should be Concerned.

Answer

The pill does cause scanty periods. However, since you had missed your pills, do a urine test for pregnancy like the clear blue test. If it is negative- fine. Continue the pill and see how the next period is. If it is still scanty, have an ultrasound done to rule out an ovarian cyst and have your thyroid hormones checked. Which pill are you taking? Let me know, I can advice you another pill which may not cause scanty periods.

Question,

I am 25 years old, my problem is that I recently started having abnormal periods. Before this my menstrual cycle lasted 28 days and I was always regularly having my period on the 28th or 29th day like clockwork. Recently I have experienced some change that has me worried. I got my periods twice in the last month and a couple of months before that, while this month it has been normal. My husband is worried and wants me to go to a gyn for a test. Why is this happening, please advise. Thanks in advance.

Answer

Have an ultrasound done to rule out a fibroid or an ovarian cyst. If the ultrasound is normal, have your thyroid hormones checked. Let me know, so I can advice you further

Question,

I am 25 years old and want to start trying for our first baby. I am 5' 7" in height and weigh 70kgs. Will I need to reduce my weight atleast by 10 kgs to be of normal weight when I concieve? Also what should I eat to get all the vitamins and nutrients that will ensure a healthy pregnancy and baby? Please advise.

Answer

You should start on folic acid tablets. Also, lose some weight as that may help in your ovulation, in case you have PCO and irregular ovulation. If you eat plenty of vegetables and fruits, you would have enough vitamins. Do a clear plan test to determine whether you are ovulating or not. All the best !

Question,

I often have brown discharge between my periods that sometimes last up to a week and a half and even two weeks at times! Is this normal? could it be caused from the pill? should I be worried?

Answer

If you are forgetting the pill or not taking it at the same time everyday, you could be having the brown discharge. Also, have your cervix and vagina examined. Any infection or cervical erosion or polyp can cause the discharge.

Question,

Hi, I've had 2 Deprovera shot, one in December 2003 and one in February 2004, I hade very irregular and long bleednings, approximatly 20 days or longer so I stopped. April to October 2004 I had no bleedings at all (and was not pregnant) However in mid October the bleedings started again and will not stop. I have had about 4-5 days of in between the bleedings but otherwise bleed constanly until now. My JP said that to go on the pills would help, so I did but that did not help either. Could you please let me know what I can do to stop these bleedings. I have no STD, and I am not pregnant. Thank you

Answer

Depo provera does cause irregular bleeding. However, since you have stopped it ala year ago, the periods should be regular by now. What is the result of your ultrasound? Also, have your thyroid and prolactin hormones been checked? Let me know the results. Also, which pill did you use? You might need a higher dose to control the bleeding. Let me know, so I can advice you accordingly.

Question,

I'm 17 wks preganant, and Im experiencing a dark brown vaginal discharge. I'm also having sharp striking pains in my vaginal area. What is this discharge I'm experiencing and what should I do? I'm already scared, should I be worried?

Answer

Have your cervix checked for any infection . If there is infection. appropriate treatment can be given. If that is normal, your uterus maybe contracting. Certain drugs are available to reduce the contractions. Your obstetrician should be able to prescribe these for you. Rest will also help to a certain extent.

Question,

I am 31 years old and I had a regular period on 11/22/04 that last about 5 days. I did not come on my period at all in the month of December. On New Years Eve I took a pregnancy test that came back negative. I showed a sign of spotting on New Years that was a pinkish color. It was like that for the following two days. On the third day the blood was like a brownish color and I start wearing pantyliners instead of tampons or regular pads because the flow was very light which is not like me because my menstrual flow is usually real heavy. However I have been bleeding this way for the last two weeks. I am also experiencing cramping in my lower abdomen and sometimes I will experience more pain on my right side and lower abdomen. I have taken a second pregnancy test which has also come back negative. Please advise as to why this is happening.

Answer

Repeat the pregnancy test to rule out a late conception. If it is still negative, consider this as a period. You can use exacyl or dicynone tablets- one tablet three times a day for 5 days to stop the bleeding. Also have an ultrasound done to rule out an ovarian cyst or a fibroid.

Question,

I was examined with PCOS (I have only cysts and irregular periods- no other syptoms and also my hormone tests were fine)I took a round of Clomid for conceiving days 5-9th, and also pregnyl 50 for 11th and 13th day, but it seems as I'm not preganant. so the next month I'll try again? I'd like to know if I have to change the dosage of Clomid or Pregnyl or use the previous? I appreciate your support a lot. thx

Answer

You have mentioned that you have taken pregnyl 50.I presume you have taken 5000 units. Also, what was the size of the follicle on ultrasound when you took the pregnyl?
It is important that your follicle(egg) is the right size to determine the dose of clomid in the next cycle and the time of pregnyl. Let me know, so I can advice you further.

Question,

Dear Dr. I am a 35 year old mother with two boys 6 and 1. I have had an ovarian cyst since Jan. 04 and now I have found out that my fibroids have returned. I was told it was calcitrate, or something like and not to worry. The first time I knew that I have fibroids is after I had my first child. It was removed during a c-section but it very, very small. My second child was delivered vaginaly-he has cerebral palsey. They want to operate to remove the ovarian cysts but I have been hearing that it disappears with Yasmin birth control pills. I'm presently taking birth control(ortho-nov) pills for a almost two months now and my periods are regular. My thyroid test was normal. I was told that I had keloids too. I still look like I'm nine months pregnant, even wearing a size ten pants. In the past I have taken birth control pills for ten years before. It was from 18-28 years old. Why do I still look like I'm pregant, my son is 22 months old now. I exercise !
every day and I only been out of the military six months. Excersise is no problem for me. I'm 5ft. 61/2 tall. I weigh about 165plus or minus pounds. What can I do about the cysts and fibroid tumor? My 22 month old now has swollen lymph nodes and they are yet to find out why. Any advice for me on this also. They have drained it and I had to drain it daily for awhile. The lymp nodes are small now but they still want to remove them. He show no signs of sickness at all and this operation can paralize him, in the face and may not smile, etc. Thank you. Looking for your response soon.

Answer

Fibroids do recur. Do let me know the size of the fibroids and the vaginal cyst, so I can advice you further. If the cyst is small it can go away with certain medication like yasmin or provera. You have to find some appropriate abdominal exercises. Do you have keloids on your cesarean scar? if yes, you can use contrabutex ointment for 4-6 weeks, which will help to a certain extent. Regarding your son, do take a second opinion with a pediatrician and then decide regarding surgery.

Answer

Sorry to hear about your ectopic/ miscarriage. You can try for a pregnancy now. Have a hysterosalpingography done to ascertain the condition of the right tube. Also, do a clear plan test to determine whether you are ovulating or not. Let me know, so I can advice you further.

Question,

I am 21 years old and in 2003 was told that I had cervical cancer, after surgery, I was told that everything would be fine and I could have kids. Now in the past 4 months I have had uncontrollable pain and that was a result from a ovarian cysts. Last night I went to the Hospital for the same pain and was told that on my left side I had a cyst with blood in it and a tilted uterus. My husband and I have been trying to have a baby for 4 months but have not had any luck. What is a titled uterus and can I still have children?

Answer

A tilted uterus usually does not interfere with pregnancy. What surgery was done for the cervical cancer and what stage was it?

Question,

is it possible to concieve a child if you have cystical overies?

Answer

Do you have Polycystic ovaries or do you have a cyst in the ovary. Do let me know the result of your ultrasound, so I can advice you further. In either case, you can conceive, but might need different treatment.

Question,

I am 39 years old (40 in August). I have a 5-yr old daughter and would like to have another child. I understand the risks involved with possibilities of birth defects at this age. Is there anything you recommend I do prior to making a final decision to have a child? Is there any way in which to best assess the risk?

Answer

Start taking folic acid tablets. Also, have your blood sugar checked to rule out any diabetes, as that would also increase the risk of abnormalities. Once you are pregnant have an amniocentesis done at around 15 weeks to rule out any chromosomal abnormalities. All the best !

Question,

My cycle is very irregular and I'm trying to get pregnant. Recently I've been spotting off and on between periods. Does this mean that I won't be able to get pregnant due to spotting? I've had numerous test and all have come back fine. However, I still continue to spot and my period last around 10 days. What does this mean?

Answer

Do let me know the results of your ultrasound and the other tests. Also, whether you have any vaginal infection or cervical erosion or polyp.

Question,

i m 28 years old married for 4 yrs.i m trying to have a baby for a long time..........i had 2 miscarriages last yr......which had broken me a lot.i was a bold person but now everything threatens me.i have bad dreams every night.to see someone pregnant hurts me.i feel like useless.my sister in law got married 4 months before me and she is having her second child in a few days.......and it is killing me.i feel inferior to all pregnant women.i sometimes want to take drastic steps like suicide!doc pls tell me what should i do?i m not working and trying to find a job?my husbands job involves a lot of travel and i go with him.but i have this void in my life..........pls help.

Answer

Sorry to hear about your miscarriages. The important thing to remember is that you have conceived, so you can conceive again. Be more positive, talk to your obstetrician about your fears and I'm sure she/ he will be able to suggest some treatment to try and prevent another miscarriage. Are you ovulating? Are your fallopian tubes normal and what is your husband's semen examination result? Do let me know , so I can advice you further.

Question,

can the blockage of the fallopian tube be removed through safe methods.i am 40 years old

Answer

Was surgery done on your tubes? Are your tubes blocked due to infection and in which part of the tube is the blockage? Let me know , so I can advice you further.

Question,

I have a loop as birth control, for the last 5 years, i am 37 years old, i want to have a child , do you think my body is strong enough to have a baby and also if the loop has not damaged my womb.
Thanks

Answer

The loop usually does not cause any problems. Sometimes, however, there can be blockage of one or both of the fallopian tubes. This can be checked by hysterosalpingography. You have to remember that the incidence of abnormalities in the fetus increase after the age of 35 , so discuss this with your obstetrician before you plan a pregnancy. You should also start taking folic acid tablets.

Question,

would like to know as to how to control sugar during pregnanacy. Is it important to check sugar in non-diabetic mothers? Does fruit juices increase the content of sugar during pregnancy?
Thanking you.

Answer

Your diet is very important. Avoid all sugars in the form of chocolates, ice-cream, dates, milk shakes, cakes. Also avoid fruits and fruit juices. The only fruit you can have is one orange or an apple once a day. What is your blood sugar level? The blood sugar should be checked even in "non- diabetic " mothers, as one can have gestational diabetes- where the blood sugar increases during pregnancy , but is normal after delivery.

Question,

I am 28 years old now, got married five years back and i still don't have a child. undergone infertility treatments like IUI once. My doctor placed me on Pergonal last month and injected Profasi the following day, but still I was not able to conceive. For this month, he has given me Letrozole three tablets on day 5 and follicular study was taken on day 12, but i was not able to get follicle this time. why i was not able to get follicle? What was my problem? Please explain.

I also have tubal block on one side, but my doctor told one side is enough for getting pregnant? i doubt is that enough to get pregnant? Please explain

Answer

Are your fallopian tubes absolutely normal? What is your husband's semen report? How many follicles did you form with the pergonal? Have you tried clomid tablets(instead of letrozole)?Do let me know, so I can advice you further. You must remember that since one tube is patent, you can only try for a pregnancy when the follicle is on the side of the patent tube.

Question,

I am married for 10 yrs. My age is 36 yrs. My husband is 40. Initially, we find it difficult to conceive through gynaecologists in the gov. hospital. Recently, with advice from couple of friends, we visited infertility specialists in the private hospital. It is found that I have polycystic ovary and the doc. did scan on the 2nd day of my period and was not happy with the lining. He put me on yasmin tablet and advised me to take METMORFIN till I get pregnant. He checked my lining for couple of cycles and again was not satisfied with this. He has suggested ovarian drilling to speed up the process. My husband's motility is very low. Hence he suggested ICSI and better to undergo ovarian drilling. Did D&C and checked the tubes also. Was told that everything is ok. Though I had a regular period, after this drilling I am getting my periods with a delay of 56 days without the yasmin pill. Doc. checked the lining and he says he can't see the endometrium and is putting m!
e on the estrogen pill again as I have cysts and it has to break and then only I have good chance for ICSi. Doc., really I am in a dilemma and don,t know what to do. I had undergone OVARIAN DRILLING,with great hope.

My Doc. didn't do any hormonal check before drilling. Couple of months after drilling he did my FSH on the second day of period and he says it is very good like a 18 year old lady (FSH:17.25).

The position now: Second day of my next period my Doc. will check the lining and if the cysts broke and is happy with the lining, he will be doing next steps. Do I need to undergo gonadatrophin therapy before ICSI?

Forgot to mention one thing, he gave me the expensive DECCA PEPTIN INJECTION after the drilling on the 17th day of one of my periods . Was told that this is to clean inside as I have lot of endometriosis.

WHETHER ANYTHING MUST HAVE GONE WRONG DURING THE DRILLING PROCEDURE. ?

Please reply, whether I can conceive?

Answer

You probably are not ovulating. Ovarian drilling helps in some cases, but not all. Do let me know if you have used clomid tablets, and how many follicles did you form with that. Have you tried IUI? Do let me know your husband's semen report also. Also, the range of the FSH hormone in the early follicular phase.

Question,

The skin around my vagina area is very itchy, dry and peeling sometimes. What should I do? Also during my premenstual time, I have a clear white discharge. Is this normal?

Answer

A clear discharge around mid-cycle is normal, due to the hormonal changes. Regarding your dryness and itching, use travocort ointment twice a day for 5 days. After that use oilatum soap and seba med oil after a bath to reduce the dryness.

Question,

45 years old. 10-6-05 I began a mentral cycle that has since been faily constant 2 weeks off and 3 weeks on 5 days off two weeks on and so on, something very heavy then spotting w/headaches. I do not have any medical ins. I am afraid of losing everything I have been working so hard to buid up. Go ing back to school and nearly finished in Real Estate testing. ISngle mom of two teens. Havn't seen a doctor about this, yet, filling out ins papers now must wait 30 days. I took some antiboiotic in Oct for infection of ? Uninary tract or kidney (can't remember). I have been taking slow Iron becuase i feel I am losing so much blood. I is clotty at times and today more wtery and light redish. I was taking 600 mg of IBprohen a day, but now I'm not sure that is a good idea? Is there a free or low cost clinic/hospital I can go to near my home in La Habra? What should I do?

Answer

I am not aware of your area, so will not be able to guide you regarding the hospital. You must have an ultrasound done to rule out any fibroid or ovarian cyst. In the meantime, take exacyl or dicynone tablets during the period - one tablet three times a day for 3 days to reduce the bleeding. Brufen will also reduce the bleeding and the pain. Let me know the result of the scan, so I can advice you further.

Question,

i usually have irregular menstrual cycles once every four months but it came late and now i have been having a blood clote discharge for about 1month and i chck to see if it was an impending pregnancy but it wasn't i also have a bump that turned into a cut which is dried with scabs that is on the outside of my vagina what should i do what is it

Answer

Since you are bleeding for a month, have an ultrasound done to rule out a fibroid or an ovarian cyst. Regarding the cut, if it has healed, you do not require further treatment. If not, use soframycein or fucidin skin cream twice a day for 5 days.

Question,

I was 11 weeks pregnant and miscarried in Nov 04. I had a D&E procedure. My doctor told me my period would come in 4-6 weeks. It came exactly 6 weeks later. 3 weeks later I came home from work and was bleeding. It only happened that night and I thought nothing of it. Well it took 6 weeks and 2 days for my period to come again. It has been 12 days since my period and now I'm bleeding again. Is this normal after a miscarriage and D&E? Should I wait it out to see if my cycle goes back to normal or should I go see my doctor. We want to start trying again but don't know if I am ovulating.

Answer

The first period maybe irregular after a miscarriage. However, since this is your second cycle, it would be advisable to have an ultrasound done. Let me know the results, so I can advice you further. Start on folic acid tablets since you wish to conceive. During the next cycle, do a clear plan test to check when you are ovulating. All the best!

Question,

hi im 21 yrs old ive been very itchy,in my public area especially in between my legs, right at the bottom of my vagina..but on the sides of it my skin over there is red..itchy..and peeling and now has tiny red bumps i do shave there but i havent in a week due to the irratated, itchy feeling my vagina is a little itchy..but no bumps or anything on it i havent had sex in over a month so i dunno what it can be

Answer

Use fucidin ointment twice a day for 5 days. if it persists, see a gynec. who may need to give you oral antibiotics. It is probably due to some infection after shaving.

Question,

hi, I AM 26 YRS OLD AND ALWAYS HAD VERY VERY VERY IRREGULAR PERIODS (SOMETIMES UBSENT ALL TOGETHER) I WAS PUT ON PROVERA AND CLOMID TO GET PREG. AND I DID AT 100MG. HOWEVER AT 12 WEEKS I MISCARRIED. AFTER TWO MONTHS, I WAS PUT ON PROVERA TO GET A PERIOD AGAIN. A DAY BEFORE INITIATING PROVERA AND WHILE ON PROVERA I BEGUN TO SPOT (BROWN ONLY) FOR COUPLE OF DAYS. MY DR. SAID THAT IS AN UNOVULATORY PERIOD SINCE MY PROGESTERONE LEVEL WAS 1.1. I AM NOW AT THE LAST DAY OF PROVERA, HOPING TO GET A REAL BLEEDING PATTERN SO I CAN TAKE CLOMID ON DAY 5. MY HUSBAND SPERMS ARE OK. MY CONCERN IS HAVING ANOTHER MISCARRIAGE. DO U THINK SINCE I AM INFERTILE, AND HAD A MISCARRIAGE I NEED TO BE MONITORED FOR PROGESTERONE LEVELS THOUGHTOUT PREGNANCY? SHOULD I NOT TAKE THE CLOMID AT THIS CYCLE AND WAIT ANOTHER MONTH DUE TO THE BROWN DISCHARGE AT THIS TIME ( IS IT CLEANING THE UTERUS) SO I CAN HAVE A BETTER IMPLANTATION? MY DR. DID NOT TELL ME TO HAVE AN ULTRASOUND DURING CLOMID. !
I USED THE OVULATION KIT LAST TIME AND IT WORKED. IS THAT OK? AND LASTLY, SINCE MOST DR. ADVISE WAITING FOR 3 CYCLES OF PERIODS B4 TRYING AGAIN, SHOULD I TAKE 3 CYCLES OF PROVERA SINCE I DONT GET PERIODS ANYMORE. BY THE WAY, I HAVE STOPPED GETTING PERIODS FOR 2 YRS NOW. SO MY IRREGULARITY HAS TURNED TO NO PERIODS. I AM 100 POUNDS, 5 FT. SOME DR. SAY THAT B/C OF MY LOW WEIGHT I HAD LOST MY PERIODS ALL TOGETHER. I DONT HAVE ANY OTHER HEALTH PROBLEMS, NO POCS, NO THYROID PROBLEMS, JUST LAZY OVARIES AS MY DR. SAYS. THANK YOU.

Answer

I would advice you to do a blood test- serum FSH on day 2 or 3 of your cycle. This will confirm that your ovaries are capable of producing follicles. Also, ultrasound is the best method to monitor ovulation while on clomid. Regarding your miscarriage, some of us give certain medication to prevent miscarriage. You will have to check with your obstetrician regarding that. Taking more cycles of provera may not help. You can start with the clomid during your next cycle(after the blood test).

Question,

Respected Doctor,
I am 28 years old lady married 6 months back, trying for baby. I have irregular periods since start, undergone many treatments in home town but all temporary effects. So I consulted doctor well in time as I was aware of my problem. I took Fertomid 50 and 100 for 2 - 2 months, there is no growth in Follicular sonography. Also Glycomet 250 and 500 for last 3 months. Then they tried Letroze for one month (Before marriage also one doctor prescribed same to me but got to know that this is banned medicine). My hormone report is . Follicle Stimulating hormone8.007mIU/ml , Leutinizing Hormone(LH) 10.432 and Prolactin 20.673 in follicular state.
This month doctor prescribed Cabgolin .5 .
Also he mentioned that, if I don't get the follicular growth, I have to undergo letroscopy.
Doctor, is my problem is very serious? Am I on the right track for the medicine? Can you suggest me some natural methods or nutrition for my problem?

Answer

You can try fertomid - 150 mgms. a day. Check on ultrasound (on day 11) whether the follicle size is at least 12 mm. If not, injections like pergonal, puregon or gonal-f can be given. The number of injections can be increased till ovulation occurs. Laparoscopy will only help to diagnose the condition of the tubes, not help in ovulation. I am not aware of any natural methods to induce ovulation. you should take enough vegetables and fruits to have enough vitamins. I presume you are taking folic acid tablets also. All the best !

Question,

Hi, I'm 21 years old and I have had several problems since I started my period (I first got it when I was nine then it never came back until I was almost 12). I have been to a few doctor's, two gyno's, and seen a proctor about these problems. I have an excess of white discharge before my period, my cycle used to be irregular but the older I get the more consistant it is, I get severe abdominal pain (sometimes debilitating) for a week sometimes two before my period, during my period I get a thick reddish brown discharge that comes and goes throughout, my breasts swell (sometimes its even painful to wear a bra), I get dizzy, and it is painful to have sex about half the time I do (this is constant it has nothing to do with my cycle). I know I have IBS, and around the time of my period it even causes my IBS symptoms to increase. I also get yeast/bacterial infections very easily. I have had I don't even know how many paps (nothing), I had two ultrasounds (nothing),!
I know my uterus is tilted...but besides that no one has offered me any solutions (that work at least...I was on the pill but it did nothing but make my usually heavy periods a little lighter and they lasted fewer then seven days). It was suggested about two years ago that I have a laparoscapy (not sure on spell.), but quite frankly I don't want to have surgery (no matter how minor)if they aren't going to find anything. These aren't minor pains either, there are sometimes when I can't even stand up durring my period. I really have given up over the past couple of years but they symptoms just won't stop. Any advice you could give me would be greatly appreciated...Thank you

Answer

Do let me know the full report of your ultrasound and when the last one was done. Do you have PCO (Polycystic ovaries)? This can give you irregular periods. Also, have your thyroid hormones been checked? Some women have more pain during their periods. You can take cataflam tablets- one tablet twice a day for 3-4 days to reduce the pain. Breast engorgement is common pre-period because of the hormone changes . You can try reducing your salt intake from one week prior to your expected period. Regarding your infection, you can use canesten vaginal pessaries for 6 nights. If the problem persists, you can use sporanox or diflucan tablets orally. (You will need a prescription for these).

Question,

i just left my dr's office and she told me that my pap came back abnormal and that i was possitive for hpv. i am 3 months pregnant and have a million questions she really didnt tell me anything just that its nothing to cry about, will my baby be ok through this and what can i do treat this?

Answer

Relax ! HPV infection does not usually harm the baby. Your doctor might consider a Cesarean section instead of a normal delivery. Repeat the smear after delivery. It maybe normal. Let me know that result, so I can advice you further. You do not need any treatment right now.

Question,

we have been trying to conceive for the past six months. i am 31 years old. i have regular periods. but my periods start with spotting for two or three days and then i start to bleed. all hormone tests done on day two of my period - normal results. ultrasound scan normal. but have been diagnosed as "cervical erosion". will i be able to conceive. i have been advised to take doxycycline twice daily for fifteen days. please enlighten me on this. i wish to conceive. also applying metrogyl gel.

Answer

Erosion of the cervix can give rise to spotting, post-coital bleeding and vaginal discharge. You can use dalacin vaginal cream for 7 nights also to reduce the erosion. If it persists, you may require cryosurgery of the cervix. This is an office procedure which does not require any anesthesia. Many of my patients have conceived within 2-3 months of the cryosugery!. All the best!

Question,

Thanks for your reply to my previous question regarding the usage of Juspirin.I am taking Juspirin on alternate days. This is my 38th week. The baby is currently at 2.5 kg.He has gained 500 gms in the past 2 weeks or so.
I had some spotting the days before and also yesterday. Both times we rushed to the hospital only to be told that I am not in labour yet. This morning it has happened again. But apart from the spotting, I am fine. There was some back pain. But it is not there today anyway.
There is some discharge as well.My doctor has asked me to get some good rest.
I just wonder if I am going to be in labour any time soon.Is the spotting any indication of a nearing labour?
Thanks again.
Yours sincerely

Answer

The weight of the baby is fine. You can stop jusprin now. Since you are 38 weeks, you can deliver anytime now. Spotting is a sign , but you should also get pains which come every 20-30 minutes. All the best !

Question,

I had a complete hysterectomy about 2 1/2 years ago. Last week I started having pain in my bladder, but didn't have any problem urinating. I called my gynecologist and he called me in an antibiiotic (Nitrofur). I took the medicine for two days and I felt a little better, but not great. I went to my doctor and when they checked my urine it was negative. He examined me and told me to keep taking the antibiotic. I feel better, but not great. It seems like the antibiotic should have cleared it up by now since I didn't show any infection when I went to the doctor. I really only have discomfort now when I am sitting.

I also think I may have a hernia on my right side (lower abdomen). Could this be causing my problems.

Answer

The urine test was negative since you had already taken the antibiotics. Wait for 10 days, and do a urine culture and sensitivity test. If this does not show any infection fine. If it shows infection, the antibiotic most suitable for those bacteria will also be mentioned. Take a complete course for 5-7 days and you should be fine. Also, if your ovaries have been retained, have an ultrasound done to rule out any ovarian cysts which maybe giving the abdominal pain. The hernia would not usually give you this pain.

Question,

Hi. I noticed a light yellow discharge when I went to the bathroom. Could this be a sign of pregnancy? Last Monday I went to the doctor's for an unrelated thing and they gave me a pregnancy test that was negetive. My period isn't scheduled until the 18th or 20th. Could that preg. test have been done too early? Thank you!

Answer

The pregnancy test is positive 15 days after conception. Repeat a pregnancy test now. The yellowish discharge is not a sign of pregnancy but can be due to vaginal or cervical infection. If it persists, use dalacin vaginal cream for 7 nights.

Question,

Doctor, i am under IVF treatment. My question is until how many hours we should not pass urine after inserting cyclogest pessaries vaginally. And after embryo transfer, how many hours we should lie down.

Answer

Lying down for 20 -30 minutes after embryo transfer is fine. You can pass urine within an hour of inserting the cyclogest. Ideally, pass urine before you insert the cyclogest, so that you do not need to pass fro about 3 -4 hours.

Question,

I am 20 yrs old and been married for a year. On Dec 31, 2004 I started my period and it lasted until Jan 6, 2005...nothing wrong there, but on January 8th it started again...and lasted until Feb 3rd...and then started again on feb 5th... whats wrong with me? My husband and I would like to start a family and I am scared that something may be really wrong? Please help me

Answer

Have an ultrasound done to rule out any ovarian cyst or a fibroid. If this is normal, have your thyroid hormones checked. Also, have your cervix and vagina checked. Sometimes, vaginal or cervical infection or an erosion or polyp of the cervix can cause this irregular spotting.

Question,

Hello mam

Doctor told their is no pbm. she suggested some medicine and it was not so effective. then i consulted a siddha doctor and taking medicines ,but my spotting was not stopped at all. The two doctors said that it is b'coz of hormonal pbm.it will be allright automatically. what can i do doctor?

Let me know whether you have any infection in your vagina or cervix. Also, whether you have a cervical erosion or polyp. Have your thyroid hormones been checked ? Also, let me know where you live (which city), so I can advice you medicines accordingly.

Question,

my husbands sperm count is 42 millions but rapid progressive motility is zero . he has 30% sluggish motile sperms at end of 1/2 hr. and 20 % at end of 2 hrs. he has 56 % abnormal forms. rest report is normal. 2 months back i had conceived but aborted at 6 weels. This month again My date is over due by 2 days could i be pregnant. if so will the foetus be abnormal due to abnormal forms? And can sluggish motile sperms fertilize a normal child?

Answer

Do a pregnancy test. If positive see your obstetrician and discuss whether you can be given certain medication to prevent a miscarriage. Sluggish sperms can fertilize a normal child and are not the cause of the miscarriage. All the best !

Question,

Hi, I delivered my 5th child Jan 7th and for the first time had my labor induced and a C-section performed for this delivery. As of Feb 11th I am still having a light yellowish discharge from my virginia but still haven't gotten my menstral cycle. My husband and I have had unprotected sex twice before my six week checkup. Should my cycle had started by now? should I have a pregnancy test done during my six week check up?
Please advise.

Answer

You may not get a period if you are lactating(breast feeding) however, you can get pregnant. Have a urine test done 15 days after the last intercourse. If that is negative, use some contraceptive like the "pill" or an IUCD .

Question,

I am in college and I have been experiencing this discharge probably since high school. Me and my mom figured out that it was a yeast infection , so i took this ovule she gave me. It worked for a while then the infection came back, but it cause a lot of itching in my vaginal area. Like a dummy I scratched it and tried to cure my self by putting anti-bactrial hand sanitizer on the open wombs along with vasoline, and cortizone 10. After putting up with it too long i got some monistat 10 and used it along with the creame. That helped for a while. Since the end of December i have noticed bumps in my vaginal area and clusters of bumps in between the two labia. I have had oral sex and sex twice since i have been in college, but the person i had it with doesn't have an std and i didn;t break out like this the first time we had sex. I don't know what it is. They bleed when i wipe my self after using the bathroon, but they are now seeming to get smaller. Iam sure it is not!
an std because it has not spread and the person i had sex with doesn't have an std and my vaginal yeast infection doesn't seem to want to go away. Could it be an infection from putting all that creame to try and cure my yeast infection?

Answer

Use panderm ointment or tracocort ointment alternating with fucidin ointment for your infection of the vulva. Use canesten vaginal pessaries for 6 nights to clear the vaginal infection. If it persists, you and your partner should take oral anti-fungal tablets like sporanox or diflucan. If not better, let me know , so I can advice you further.

Question,

I have pains in the bottom of my stomach and it's bloated and feels like pregnancy, does this mean i could be pregnant or have a bladder infection?

Answer

You have not told me whether you have missed your period. If you have , do a pregnancy test and let me know, so I can advice you further. If you do not have any burning while passing urine or frequency , it is unlikely to be a bladder infection.

Question,

Please explain the uses for Primolut? I have started 5mg twice daily for 21 days. We are trying to have a baby and I've been diagnosed with PCOS.
Please advice, thanks

Answer

There are several uses of primolut. Why was it given ? Do you have irregular periods? Also, if you are planning to conceive, there are other safer hormones like duphaston. Let me know, so I can advice you further.

Question,

I have been diagnosed with PCO disease. I have two children (both conceived with fertility drugs, one with Clomid the other with Pergonol) I am done having children, now I battle all the classic symtoms of PCO, Obesity, hair growth, irregular periods, depression. Please advise of current treatment suggestions.

Answer

PCO is unfortunately associated with various symptoms. Regarding your irregular periods and hair growth, you can take diane and androcure . This will also act as a contraceptive. However, your weight might increase. You have to see a dietician who can help you for weight loss. If you do not wish to use the pill, you can have electrolysis for your hair growth. You will have to carry this out for many years, so be more positive about it and take it as your normal routine. All the best !

Question,

i have been trying to conceive for the past 5months,i am 35years old,no luck,my periods are regular and i don't have any other problem, pls advise what should i do?

Answer

Do let me know your husband's semen report, whether your tubes have been checked and whether you are ovulating or not. How have you detected your ovulation? Has an ultrasound been done? You can do a clear plan test for the same. Since you are already 35 years old, try and conceive soon , as the chances of fetal abnormalities will increase with age. Let me know the results, so I can advice you further.

Question,

I got my menses late this month in 42 days. Usually i get around 35days. My bleeding was normal for first three days. It decreased after that but bleeding has not stopped even after 20 days. I am taking PrimulotN from 9th day 2 tablets twice daily and Novelon once in night from 16th day. Now i dont bleed for 5-6 hrs after taking the tablets. Then the spotting takes place. That too when i pass urine first few drops of red comes and then i spot. I took ultrasound and there is no abnormal findings. Is this spotting will stop in few more days or what should i do?

Answer

I presume you did a pregnancy test and it is negative. You can increase your primolut to three times a day. Make sure you are taking it at the same time everyday , as otherwise your spotting may continue. Continue the primolut for 25 more days. Also, do you have an erosion or polyp of the cervix? Also, take dicynone or exacyl tablets- one tablet three times a day for 3 days.

Question,

I started the Depo in April 2003 and had my last one in June 2004 and since coming off have been trying to conceive. I hadn't had a period at all and was starting to get anxious when I started having symptoms of pregnancy. We were overjoyed when a test confirmed that I was indeed pregnant. Five days later, pains I've been having around my uterus area since last October, got stronger and I miscarried. This was on January 9th and devastating. I bled for three days and have had nothing since. We started trying again straight away but I am not pregnant. We are really upset and worried that there might be something wrong. I have had a blood test and urine test plus swabs of my uterus (which is swollen and tender) and all tests have come back normal. This will be my third child and my last child was born two months early, which is causing additional worry. Do you have any ideas with what could be wrong and is there anything I can take to increase my chances of conceiving? I still !
haven't had a period. Many thanks and kind regards, Victoria.

Answer

Relax! Since you have had a miscarriage in January, wait till April before you conceive. In the meantime, take folic acid tablets. Do let me know some more details about the miscarriage. Was the heartbeat present? How many weeks was the fetus and the results of any blood tests doe.

Answer

Have you done an ultrasound? let me know the result , so I can advice you further.

Question,

I am a 32 year old female who has been on the birth control pill for the last 5 years. I have been on three different types and am now on Diana 35. I would one day like to have children and was wondering if different birth control pill use and length of use would have any affects on my fertility or any later effects on the fetus. Thanks

Answer

Why are you using Diane? We have pills with less hormonal effects on the body like Yasmin or Gracial. Use these instead. Any of these can be started on the first day of the period. When you wish to conceive, stop the pill for 2-3 months and use any other contraceptive like condoms during that period. There will not be any problem in conceiving after stopping the pill.

Question,

I'm 22 yrs. old.I had my last period I think Oct. 15 or 17,2004.I have my regular period but November until now January 13,2005,I didn't have my menstruation.I did an hCG pregnancy test last December 28,2004 and it turned out Positive.I'm now experiencing the normal symptoms of pregnancy.Nausea & vomiting anytime of the day or night,headache,light-headedness,easy fatigability. But I do not crave foods. Is it normal?Sometimes I look for some food, eat it and thats it.But I'm not much of a craving. And then now I'm worried because my hypogastic area is not yet enlarged if Nov. 2004 until now Jan. 2005 I never had my period,so I'm having my 3rd month of pregnancy (if I'm really pregnant).Doctor I'm worried about it that's why I'm consulting with you. This is my first pregnancy if ever.If in the 3rd month of pregnancy,non-enlargement of abdomen is normal, when will be that my pregnancy be obvious enough that my abdomen is getting bigger already?Thank you very much Doctor...I am hoping for your quick response with this.

Answer

You must do an ultrasound to know the size of the fetus and its condition. I presume you are taking folic acid tablets. Everyone does not crave for foods- so that's fine. Let me know the ultrasound report and I can advice you further.

Question,

my periods have been weird pretty much since i ever started to have them.. i had sex for the first time in august and i thought i could be pregnant so i waited until my period should have started then went to get a pregnancy test done at the family planning clinic near me, it was negative and the nurse said i could be making myself have the symptoms and i would probably start my period that day; i ended up starting that night. i usually have vaginal pains before and during my period and it was pretty bad that cycle. i was really stressed out i had lots of brownish blood and it would start and then get light almost stopping it continued on for 4 days like that which was kinda weird. so then i relaxed and i had my period again which was normal bright red and 4 days again. then i started to worry that maybe i was still pregnant and stressed again ever since then i've had light periods which lots of brown blood etc. in total i've had 3 pregnancy tests one in sept/novem!
ber and just last week all which we're negative and all at three different places. could they be wrong? also i had an abdominal ct scan done in november for other health issues. could they have noticed it since i would have been almost or 4 months along? i've been poked and what not so much during all my health problems since i first had sex, i've had my regular yearly examine and everyone says i'm fine. is the periods normal? could it be stress? i'm just looking for someone who would know and some explanation would be a great help.

Answer

Since your pregnancy tests are negative- stop worrying. Stress can cause these symptoms, so relax ! Have an ultrasound done. This will rule out a pregnancy and the presence of any other problems like ovarian cyst which could have developed now and therefore not picked up by the ct scan. Let me know how your next cycle is and the result of the ultrasound.

Question,

I had a hysto one year ago.My doctor now wants to go back and remove an overy causing pain during intercourse.I am not sure if i should have bolth removed?i am afraid of menopause-I am only 35yrs old. What will happen when and if i have bolth removed?

Answer

Does the ultrasound show any cyst in the ovary? If not, I do not advice any further surgery. The pain during intercourse could be due to an erosion of the cervix or pelvic adhesions following the previous surgery. Let me know the results of the ultrasound also, so I can advice you further.

Using napkins will not affect your flow. Have an ultrasound done to rule out any ovarian cyst. If this is normal, have your hemoglobin and thyroid tests done. Let me know the results so I can advice you accordingly. Relax! This maybe absolutely normal.

Question,

Dear Doctor, My last period started on November 19, 2004. It was normal (lasted 5 days). My fiance and I had sex on the 19th. I did not have a period in December. As of today (January 12, 2005) it has been 54 days since the last period started. I have taken 2 generic pregnancy tests. The first one I tested in the evening and it was negaitve the second one I used with the first morning urine and it had a dark pink line to let me know it was working and then there was a barely there light pink area beside the dark line. Can I be pregnant? I have been pregnant before and miscarried, so I'm wanting to do everything the right way to keep this kid safe if I am pregnant. I am 26 years old and really do want to have a kid, but Im not going to get my hopes set up to just get them knocked down again. Can you tell me what I should do. Could it be possible that my hcg level is just too low to be detected on a home pregnancy test right now. PLEASE doctor let me know something ASAP.

Answer

Repeat the urine test again and let me know the result. By now, if you are pregnant, do an ultrasound to check how the fetus is growing and let me know All the best !

Question,

I had an abortion at the end of November. When I went back for my 2 week check up everything was fine and I began birth control that next Sunday. I am now on my fourth week on birth control, the week I thought I was supposed to have my period. I'm experiencing a very light bleeding and it doesn't seem to be very constant. I can't figure out if this is my period or not especially since I was under the impression that this period would be heavier than I'm used to. I'm just trying to figure out if everything is ok. Thanks!

Answer

Do let me know the pill you are using. Most pills are for 21 days. Your pill probably has some iron tablet for the last week. In that case, when you finish the pill for 21 days, you would get a period. This bleeding maybe your period, though scanty. Also, if you have missed a pill, you may get spotting. However, do a urine test for pregnancy.

Question,

For the past month I have had a red, sore and itchy area on the skin between my vagina and leg (just outside the labia region).
At first it looked like a scratch or almost a very red stretchmark/long thin graze. I have been keeping the area clean and dry and washing it very gently. It is fairly itchy and sore when I use the bathroom. Please advise.

Answer

Use travocort ointment twice a day for 5 days. If the problem persists see a doctor who may need to give you some oral tablets also.

Question,

I recently toke clomiphene and lately I had spotting of bleeding on and off and at first it was light now its a little heavy. what could it be?

Answer

When was the spotting ? If it was for 1-2 days around mid-cycle, it is due to ovulation. Also, do you have any vaginal discharge? Sometimes, a vaginal or cervical infection can give you spotting.

Question,

Hi, I'm 24yrs of age and have not been in a married life. I've been taking contraceptive pills - Marvelon since September 2004 after my abortion until now. I'm planning to get married on December 2005 and I'm scared that will I become infertile if I stop taking the birth control pills. When will my fertility be back to normal self after I have stop taking the birth control pills? Im really hope for a baby once im married. Please advise. Thanks.

Answer

Usually one begins to ovulate within 1-2 months of stopping the pill. You don't need to worry about infertility after the pill. All the best !

Question,

HI IHAD LAPAROSCOPY MY DR SAYS I HAVE ANOVULATION PROBLEM AFTER THE I WAS GIVEN GLUCOPHAGE 500MG DAILY THIS IS 21DYS SINCE I'D STARTED GLUCOPHAGE AND AM HAVING SOME KIND OF LIGHT BROWN DISCHARGE. IS IT NORMAL? AND HOW LONG WOULD I BE ON GLUCPHAGE? AM 24 YRS OLD NEWLY MARRIED.

Answer

You probably have PCO (Polycystic ovaries ) . This is associated with irregular periods and infrequent or absent ovulation. You can do a clear plan test to check whether you are ovulating. If you are not, you may require clomid tablets. These , however, should be given when ultrasound monitoring is possible. Regarding your brown discharge, it is not due to glucophage. Check with your doctor whether you have any vaginal or cervical infection and take appropriate treatment.

Question,

I am 24 years old. It started in 1994 when I begun to have irrelugar menstrual cycle I was about 13 or 14. I went to the doctor and she said that I had hormone problems. She then ran tests and it really was only hormone problems. She prescr. some type of hormone pills. Then on the 10th one I begun to have my period. And she also placed me on birthcontrol pills. I later stop taking them. My menstrual begun to be irregular. Now it stopped in November of 2003. I didn't go to the doctor because I thought it would come back on but it hasn't. What is the cause and what should I do.

Answer

Do let me know the results of the following hormone tests : FSH, LH and PROLACTIN and I can advice you further. These should have been done on the second or third day of the period. Also, has an ultrasound been done? Let me know the results, so I can advice you further.

Question,

My periods have been normal but this time I keep having this clear liquid discharge come out a lot making my underwear seem wet. It is really smelly and this concerns me. Is there something wrong or something over the counter that I should use?

Answer

You can use betadine vaginal pessaries. This should take care of your infection. Check that you are not allergic or sensitive to any of its contents.

Question,

I am 49 years old and going through menopause. I shower every day, sometimes more than once. There is some kind of odor that I am giving off I'm not sure but it is definitely foul. I also have hemorrhoids but I've had them for years. I have been to my doctor and had a pap smear and there is nothing wrong. What is this smell and how can I get rid of it? It's making me crazy.

Answer

Do you also have any vaginal discharge ? Do let me know the kind of discharge, so I can advice you further. After menopause, the vaginal mucosa gets atrophic (thin ) . This predisposes to vaginal infection.

Question,

I have been experiencing ONLY during my menstrual periods(not all periods)<e.g.last year 4 of 12> a bump that is sore on my vulva area, which will go away after my menstrual cycle is completed(5-7 days). I have examined the symptoms to three different doctors but they don't seem to know what it is. They like to think that it is HORMONAL because it only occur during my menstrual cycle. I was given by one doctor PREMARIN cream to apply to the external area of my vagina only (five days before menstrual and during my menstrual). I used the cream for 4 months with NO reoccuring then I had a reoccurance in the 5 month, and I stopped using the cream because I figured it wasn't working. The other doctor concluded that it was HORMONE also, and put me on the pill ORTHO-CYCLEN-28 tablets. I've been taking the pills for 3 months and had 1 reoccurance. Also, I've noticed that sometimes whichever vulva side the bump is on that, that hip down the back of the thigh will be sensitive to the !
touch (e.g. rubbing the thigh back and forth with your hand).
Do you have any ideas of what this can be? Thank you in advance.

Answer

Use soframycein skin cream twice a day for 5 days. Also, is the bump in the same place everytime ? Let me know if it recurs after the soframycein.

Question,

Hi,
I have one daughter from a previous marriage and I really want to have one more child with my present partner.
I had a miscarriage in October 2004. I waited for one normal cycle as the doctor told me and after a check up to confirm I was ok, we started to try again. I had a period on 15th December, then bled lightly for two days on 31st December and then had two more days of light bleeding on 2nd February. My periods have always been regular so I am wondering why I am having such irregular bleeding at the moment. Lately I have had nausea, bloatedness, tingly breasts and my moods have been very up and down. I have had clear and also creamy discharge (not from infection), even today after having bled for two days.
I took two home pregnancy tests and both came up negative and I am a little confused as to what is going on with my body at the moment. I am so focused on getting pregnant and wonder if all my symptoms are just because I am so focused on wanting to become pregnant.
P.S. Incidentally, I am prone to getting yeast infections and both times I have bled on 31st December and 2nd February I started to bleed after applying Canesten cream inside my vagina.

Answer

The bleeding maybe due to the vaginal cream applicator touching the inflamed cervix. However, you should have got a period around the 15th. January. If your nausea is continuing and the urine pregnancy test is still negative, do a blood test for beta- hcg- the hormone of pregnancy. Sometimes, if there is an ectopic pregnancy (pregnancy in the tube ) , it maybe detected by the blood test and not by the urine test.

Answer

Do let me know the details of your miscarriage. Was the heart-beat seen on ultrasound and then not seen or was there no heart-beat from the beginning? Also was your blood tested for Toxoplasmosis IgM ? let me know , so I can advice you further. Some doctors do give hormones during pregnancy and it does help. Do let me know in which city you are staying, so I can advice you regarding the medication accordingly.

Question,

Approx. 12 years ago I had 3 marsupilizations done for a bartholins abcess. I haven't had a problem with the cyst draining until recently when the abcess recurred. This time, the labial area seemed to be swollen as well, and I had a painful itchy rash in my vaginal and rectal area. It almost seemed as if the abcess began in my labial area and progressed to the bartholin gland and then the perineal area. I have seen my gynecologist, and he did not seem too concerned about the rash. I am taking keflex (for 1 week now) but, am concerned of the rash as it is driving me crazy especially at night when it itches terribly. I've tried everything. I'm scheduled for a follow up appt. next week. Could the rash be irritation from the abcess?

Answer

The irritation can be due to infection around the abscess. Use Panderm ointment . If this is not available, use soframycein skin cream alternating with travocort ointment. Both should be used twice a day for 5 days.

Question,

I am a 29 year old female with one child. I was on the shot for about five years. I would bleed off and on and especially during intercourse. I have since stop getting the shot. My last shot was March 2004 and I also had the leap surgery in March. I still bleed the same. I asked a doctor and he said the lining of the walls could cause bleeding with the thrusts that come from intercourse. Is this true? What can I do to stop the bleeding?

Answer

Since you have stopped the shot in March 2004 , your bleeding should be normal now. Have you done an ultrasound? Do let me know the results regarding any fibroid, ovarian cyst and the thickness of the endometrium ( lining of the uterus ). Also, do you have any vaginal infection or cervical erosion or polyp? These can also cause this off and on bleeding .

Question,

i'm 28 and my husband 35. I have irregualr periods. we have been trying to conceive for the past 4 mths, Last November I was on siphene 50 mg from my 2nd day of cycle till day 6 and duphaston from my 16th day of cycle for 10 days. I got my periods after 31 days. I'm planning to take the same tablets now without consulting the doctor again. Is that ok? Will there be any side effects?

Answer

You must do ultrasound monitoring when you are taking clomid. This will help you to know whether you are ovulating with that dose of clomid or not. Also, clomid can cause cysts in the ovary , so an ultrasound is essential. DO NOT TAKE CLOMID WITHOUT ULTRASOUND MONITORING !

Question,

hi! I'm 30 yrs. old, married and with 1 child. My concern is this: my period is delayed for about a week now. I had my last period on Dec. 15, 2004; it lasted for 3 days. I'm not ready to have another baby, could I be pregnant? We always make sure that I'm on the "safe period" when my husband and I have sex. On new years day though we had sex but he did not ejaculate inside me, i gave him oral sex. It's causing me a lot of stress thinking I might be pregnant, i did not take urine test bec i am afraid it will return positive result.

Answer

You have to do a urine test . If it is negative, take duphaston tablets- one tablet twice a day for 5 days and you should get a period. The safe period is often not reliable as you could have had irregular ovulation.

Question,

I'm 28 years old my first child is 2.5 the same week after i delivered him and came home I started having what I thought was groin pain, maybe a pulled muscle or something. But the next month it returned very severe pain but don't last very long maybe a couple of days so i thought it was when i was ovulating because i did feel it before I got pregnant just never so intensed. A couple of more months went by with the same pain reoccuring around the same area always the right side by the groin, and the pelvic area but this time it lasted for 2 weeks about every 3 to 4 hours for 20 minutes with undescribable pain with me in tears nothing works to make it easier. So I told me OB he thought maybe it was cysts. Well the next month i got pregnant so no more pain for the next nine months. Till after I had him, the pain reoccured my OB put me on birth control pills(didn't work. I wanted my tubes tied so when he did it he looked inside said he saw nothing wrong. I have had a !
upper/lower GI done, colonscopy, pelvic xrays nothing found. But I am still in pain every month. I have even kept track the pain starts about ten days after my period is done maybe once a day for two to four days but the pain is not that bad when it starts but a couple of days later it is very painful. It is very frustating because it is effecting my life emotionally and physically. I am married i don't want to have sex for those two weeks and of course the third week(my period) because the pain comes so frequently. My children are toddlers and it is hard to tend to them when the pain comes and I work at a factory so it is not that easy to walk away and go cry for 20 minutes. I have notice one thing that the pain eases sometimes when I put direct pressure on it really really hard. I have to use the tv's remote control. Please help if you can.

Answer

You said you have done pelvic X-ray, did you mean ultrasound? Do let me know the result of the ultrasound. Your history is typical of endometriosis, with the pain starting around mid-cycle and reducing during pregnancy. If the ultrasound does not show any endometriotic cyst , have a laparoscopy done to rule out endometriosis. Do let me know the results, so I can advice you further.

Question,

Had a cervical leep and everything went fine, then my leg started cramping so my other doctor put me on cataflam, was wondering if this is ok to take after a leep or if it will not effect the healing process? thanks shell

Answer
Cataflam will not affect the healing. The leg cramps may not be due to the leep, so if the pain recurs, consult your doctor.

Answer

Do you have a cyst in the ovary or cystic ovaries(polycystic ovaries) ?Polycystic ovaries are present in 25 % of women and would not cause pain in the abdomen. However, a cyst in the ovary might. Let me know the result of the scan - specially the size of the cyst. If betadine vaginal pessaries are available, use them for 7 days. Also, do you have an erosion of the cervix? let me know , so I can advice you further. Have a urine culture and sensitivity test done. This will let you know the antibiotic most suitable for any urinary infection you might have .

Question,

i have been trying for a baby but six months ago i had chlamydia which with antibiotics cleared my husband did not have it but for three years now we have been trying we are both in our early twenties why are we finding it so hard to concieve when my hormone levels are normal and his sperm count is normal

Answer

Do a clear plan test to determine when you are ovulating. If you find you are not ovulating, you might need to take clomid tablets. This, however, should be done under ultrasound monitoring. Let me know the result. All the best ! Also, have your tubes been checked?

Answer

Do let me know the size and number of the follicles after the clomid tablets (which is determined by ultrasound) .If there are many follicles, you do have an increased chance of multiple pregnancy. I can advice you further once you let me know the result of the ultrasound.

Question,

I have a underactive thyroyid problem and I am taken thyroxine every morning and I also have Pcso problem. No period 6 months. One of the Gynecologist recomended Provera tablet 5 days, 3 times day. I was taken that tablet and I had period after one week and I want to start Clomid 2 day to 6 day.

Question,

hello im 20 years old ive been with the same partner for 5 years married 1 month and about a month and a half ago i noticed this little bump in my vagina area it doesnt hurt its the color of my skin no irratition what so ever i know its not a std, you cant notice it if your looking at it but if you touch it its kindof like a little ball its not like a zit ive had regular pap smears ive had std tests in the past so i dont know what it is can you help?

Answer

It maybe a Bartholin cyst. If it is not increasing in size or giving you any problems, you can leave it alone. It will not affect your chances of conceiving.

Question,

I've used clomid for 5 days because I have PCOS and couldn't conceive normally. I found out by Ultrasound that were two eggs to be released. How probably is it to have multiple births? Thanks

Answer

The chances of multiple pregnancy is high with clomid. However, if you were not ovulating without the clomid, you would have to take it . If you are forming only 2 follicles, it's fine. If you are forming more than 2 follicles, you could try Puregon injections instead of the clomid.

Question,

I am 38 years old, virgin, with no funny bussiness activities, but lately have experienced bleeding & cramps other than my regular period. it is now almost 11 days that i have spotting. It's more often after I go and pee that when I whip myself that I see blood. It doesn't get the pads soaking as much just spotting
I don't feel comfortable going to OBGyn!! can you tell me if It's serious and I must go???
would it be possible to email me the ansewr not just posting it here. I found this site by accident! thanks.

Answer

You should have an ultrasound done. This can be done from the abdomen, so you should be comfortable. An ultrasound will rule out fibroids or an ovarian cyst. Both these can cause irregularities in the periods. Fibroids, specially ,are associated with heavy periods.

Question,

I am a 29 year old female who's never had very regular cycles. Before the birth of my son (now 2 1/2) they were much longer - 35 days was very short for me. Now my cycles range from 26 days to 35 days now being long for me. I've been keeping track of my cycles each month & try to jot down when I see certain signs to make sure I'm ovulating. It was determined by my BBT charts that I was not when trying to conceive my son. I've been fairly certain each month since, though, that I have been ovulating. My last period started on Dec. 30, I began noticing more cervical mucous on Jan. 14, and I had some cramps on Jan. 17 (which I thought may have been ovulation). Since then, I have had additional lower abdominal cramps & various other twinges & pains. I also have swollen breasts, & my areolas & nipples are enlarged & darker than normal. My breasts began hurting around Jan. 20. It is now cycle day 33, and I have had 2 negative home pregnancy tests. Is it possibl!
e that I could still be pregnant? If not, what could be going on with my body? Thank you very much for your time. Your answer would be greatly appreciated!

Answer

You have probably ovulated , but not conceived. The breast swelling can occur even if you have ovulated, but not conceived. Do a blood test - beta hcg to confirm that you are not pregnant. Later, you could use the clear plan test or ultrasound to determine when you are ovulating. This would be more reliable than the BBT.

Question,

My periods got delayed..by four days.I am getting a white discharge from vagina for last two days..Will I be pregnanat ? what test we need to do to know the reson for white discharge.

Answer

You can do a clear blue test to determine whether you are pregnant or not. The white discharge is probably fungal infection. You can use canesten vaginal pessaries for 6 nights. If the problem persists, a vaginal smear will help determine the type of infection.

Question,

I am 25 years old & have a 3 year old son. My husband & I have been trying for a baby since our son was 15 months old but have had no luck. I keep going to the gynacologist & she says "soon, just be patient". I have had internal exams as I'm getting a lot of pain on the right side of my abdomen/pelvic area but the Dr. cannot find anything. The Drs. haven't done any scans or blood tests to find out if there is anything wrong with me. My son was born by c-section & I was advised to take the Depo Provera injection afterwards as it was the 'safest' contraception. I had a lot of problems with it : irregular & absent periods, very heavy bleeding with very large clots & pain. I gained a lot of weight though I have a very healthy diet, I'm loosing quite a lot of hair, I have terrible mood swings & am very sensitive to situations. My breasts are always swollen & painful & I have lower back pain. My skin has also become very spotty - on my back & very dry & itchy on my face. I can't h!
elp thinking that this is all related in some way.

I have been reading your answers to others & keep hearing about Clomid - I don't know whether I'm ovulating or not & I don't know why the gynacologist wont do any tests for me but would Clomid be an option for me?

A friend of mine failed to conceive for 2 years & was given injections ( I don't know what of) but now she is carrying 5 babies. With my c-section, if that were to happen, would I be in danger of rupturing the scar?

My husband & I are desperate for more children & bearing in mind that I have to wait at least 15 months between births (for the c-section to heal etc.) we are scared that time will run out. I had always planned to stop having my children when I reached 30-32 to avoid the increased risks.

I would be very grateful for any suggestions you might make. Money is no object, we are prepared to go private if it is required. We just a family in as safe a way as possible.

Many thanks & kind regards.

Answer

All the problems you have mentioned in the first paragraph could be due to the depo- provera. They would all settle with time. Do a clear plan test to determine whether you are ovulating or not. If you are, you do not require clomid. If you decide to take clomid, it must be under ultrasound monitoring. This would determine how many follicles you have . If you have many follicles, you increase your chances of multiple pregnancies. ( I suspect your friend must have been given many injections like pergonal or puregon and many follicles must have formed). With a smaller dose of clomid, when only one or two follicles form , the chances of multiple pregnancy is less. With your history of CS , it would be advisable to avoid multiple pregnancy. Twins would be OK , but not more ! Let me know the results of the clear plan and ultrasound, so I can advice you further. Also, has your husband's semen been examined recently? All the best !

Question,

Question,

I am a 36 year old female. The last month I have had unusual mentral cycles. The intial onset of the cycle was what I thought a very light cycle. I assumed this was my actual cycle as I was already two weeks late. This lasted about 3 days. Then, about 7 days after that, I started, a normal flow period. That stopped and all seemed normal. As of three days ago, I now have a dark brown discharge. It does not have an order and no pain is associated with this. I do take approximately 360mg of Armor Throid per day. Other than that, I took 12 hour Sudifed for about 8 day. No other medications other than multivitamin.

Answer

Did you check your urine for pregnancy? Sometimes one can get scanty and irregular spotting while one is pregnant. If it is positive, have an ultrasound done to see whether the fetus is fine.If it is negative and you get a similar problem, have an ultrasound done to rule out a fibroid or an ovarian cyst.

Question,

i am 28 year old seven years ago while i was pregnant the docor told me that i had some adnormal cells that could be cancerous ihe sent me to do further testing and that doc. did not see them after the baby i did a paps smear around a year after and there was still these adnomal cell i was treated i did sveral other paps smear and i only had yeast infection which was treated i did a paps smear recentle and was told in dec. 2004 that i have low grade spamous intraepithelial lesion and bacterial vaginosis i was treated for those and to repeat my pap. in march since a week ago i am seeing some white curdy look discharge from my vigina just a little and it has no smell and this ocur only in the day. Can you tell me what might be wrong.

Answer

The white curdy discharge maybe due to a fungal infection. You can use canesten vaginal pessaries for 6 nights. If the problem persists, see your gynec. Regarding your Pap , it is important to do regular follow-up. Also, do you have an erosion of the cervix? If you do then cryosurgery for that will help and prevent recurrent infection.

Question,

What can be done about having more than one period a month. I think my friend is going through the change. She is 40. She smokes and does not want to take birth control. Any remedies?

2. For myself - I get yeast infections or something after my period every month. Why? I use tampons. I spot for several days after and use nothing. It is not enough for a tampon.

Answer

Your friend should have an ultrasound done to rule out fibroids or an ovarian cyst. Let me know the results, so I can advice you further.
Regarding yourself, Since you get recurrent infection, use canesten vaginal pessaries for 6 nights. Also, both you and your partner will require oral anti-fungal drugs like diflucan or sporanox. Stop using the tampon and observe whether the infection reduces.

Use canesten vaginal pessaries for 6 nights for your discharge. Also, both you and your partner should take oral anti-fungal drugs like diflucan or sporanox to prevent recurrent infection. Since you are planning to conceive, do a clear plan test to determine whether you are ovulating or not. Also, have your husband's semen examination done Let me know the results, so I can advice you further. Also, have you put on weight? That might explain the increase in the size of the breasts.

Question,

I have seen gynecologist have overian cyst of 6cms had blood test done said was clear but he gave me the impression he did not care i am in alot of pain makes me feel sick at times also i have had very bad indegestion for the last 4 to 5 days,he told me that know one has pain with cyst please advice me p.s. i had hyperstrectomy last february

Answer

Has any medication been given to reduce the size of the cyst? Since your cyst is large it may give you pain and can twist (go into torsion ) and that may cause severe pain . You can use cataflam tablets- one tablet twice a day for 5 days. See another gynec. who can give you some treatment for the cyst.

Question,

Hello doctor,
I have been having light green/yellow discharge without irritation for many months now. During my annual pap smear exam, doc notices that my cervix is red and did a HVS. Results came back with " A light growth of strep B" and my pap smear result came back with "atypical cells seen - Class II Smear". I have since been put on Augmentin (7 days) and no improvment, followed by Amoxyllin & Metrodinazole (7 days) also no improvement, then vaginal pessary of Metrodinazole and nystatin (7 days), still no improvement. During the antibiotic treatment, discharge actually turns colourless after about 4 days, but greenish/yellow colour returns once medicine is stopped. I am very worried cos if it should be cured after so much medication. is something really really wrong with me? I have abstained from sex since 9 months ago and it is affecting my marriage.

Answer

Use canesten vaginal pessaries twice a day for 7 days. If your problem persists, have a vaginal culture and sensitivity done. This will determine which antibiotic is appropriate for you. After this course of betadine you can have intercourse. If that is painful, use KY jelly for lubrication.

Question,

hello doctor,
4yrs completed to my marriage. still i had no baby, we undergone the treatment of laproscopy, the result is everything is normal, after my lapro i gained weight. i am 25 and my hubby is 33. after that also i am not conceived, after we consulted infertility centre, there they said i had polysystic ovaries problem, they prescribed G-Reg-SR-1000, and folic acid, after taking this tablet, after one month i undergone the treatment of IUI, that time 3 follicles reptured but i am conceived, they injected my hubby sperm abt 30million and it had 80% motility. but this attempt was failed.after my laproscopy i am getting breast pain one week before of my period. after this IUI they had given the tab progestrone vaginal gel tab. after taking my nipple starts to hurt and my breast pain started and reached my period. we both r very depressed. will u tell me that when i conceived did breast pain starts like my period or not. pls tell me " i not willing to conceive or is there is chance.

Answer

You must be more positive ! I am sure you will conceive. You seem to be receiving the right treatment. Do let me know the results of the semen in more detail. Also, the results of the IUI(sperm motility and recovery after the sperm wash ). The breast and nipple pain maybe due to breast congestion due to the progesterone after ovulation, You don't need to worry about it. Even if you conceive you may get breast pain. You should try for 6 cycles of IUI. If things don't work out , you can consider IVF. I think you should relax mentally and you will conceive with the IUI. All the best !

Have you done an ultrasound to determine this? Also, have you done any hormone tests ? Let me know the results. Check whether you are ovulating or not by the clear plan test. If you are not, see a gynec. who can give you clomid tablets. Start with one tablet a day from the third day of the period for 5 days. Have an ultrasound done on day 11 to determine whether you are ovulating or not and also to ensure that your ovaries are not getting unusually enlarged and forming cysts. Let me know the results, so I can advice you further.

Sorry to hear about your problems. Regarding the thrush, you can use travocort ointment on the vulva for any itching you might have. Also use canesten vaginal pessaries for 6 nights . Question,

Hi Doctor,I m a married man longing to have a child.Past two months We are trying but not succeeded. My wife is having 24days menstrual cycle.Would you let me know more or less her fertile days where we can fulfill our desires. Appreciate your feedback on this. Thanks in advance. Please reply.

Answer

Ovulation is usually around mid-cycle. Since your wife's periods are every 24 days, the fertile period would be from the 8th to the 15th day of the cycle. She can use the clear plan test to determine the most fertile period. Have you done your semen test? Do let me know the result. Your wife should start using one tablet of folic acid everyday. This helps to prevent certain fetal defects and should be taken while planning a pregnancy. All the best !

Question,

There is a jelly like substance coming from my vagina and i never have sexual intercourse. dod u think it is yeast infection or do you know what it is

Answer

Around mid-cycle a clear discharge is common. This is due to the hormonal changes around ovulation.A yeast infection usually gives a curdy white discharge. If you have that , you will need some oral anti-fungal tablets like diflucan or sporanox.

Answer

Polycystic ovaries are associated with irregular periods, acne and hirsutism (excessive hair growth ). While you take the diane , the periods would be regular and the acne reduce. However, once you stop, the symptoms will come back again. If you are not planning to conceive soon , you can continue the diane.

Question,

I am a 24 year old female. and around the last couple of days of my period ( fifth and sixth day) I get itchy down there. and when my period stops altogether, the itching stops. so, my question is,is it normal to get itchy down there right when your period ends? could this be hormonal? also, my pap test was normal. hope you can help!

Answer

The itching is probably due to irritation due to the sanitary pads. You can change the brand. If the problem persists, use travocort ointment twice a day for 5 days.

after my iui,my next was due on 10dec its around 49days no periods,onday47 urine test showed "- ve".having little obdominal pain.i like to know reason unusall delay periods.really all these eat my head.very depressed;lastly i like to know my solution.pls ma help me from this.i'm from leceister &like to know phone number &clinic address.

Answer

Do let me know what dose of clomid you were taking when the progesterone was low. Certain injections like puregon or gonal-f can be given in addition to the clomid for a better response. However, do a serum FSH and LH on day 2 or 3 of the cycle and let me know the result, so I can advice you further. Don't worry, things will work out ! My clinic is in Oman. If you have undergone 6 cycles of IUI where there has been a good response( 3-4 follicles ) and still have failed to conceive, you can try IVF. There are many good infertility and IVF centres in London or Bourn Hall (near Cambridge). All the best! I'm sure things will work out !

Question,

I have a baby who is now 1 year old. I am still breastfeeding her. I got my periods in October 2004 for the first time after my delivery. I got it in October on the 18th and then in November around the same date. This month I have still not got my periods. Wonder why? I am quite worried. Does it happen while breastfeeding

Answer

One does get irregular periods while breast-feeding. However, one can get pregnant also, so do a urine test like clear blue to rule that out. If you do not wish to conceive now, use some contraceptives like the pill or the IUCD.

Question,

I got polycycits ovries. And doctor gave me Dopergin and Prolifen it's good for me and it works or not plz reply soon thank's

With polycystic ovaries, one can have irregular periods and anovulation (absence of ovulation ). Prolifen will help you ovulate. Was your prolactin level high? Dopergin is usually given when the prolactin is high. All the best

Question,

I have 2 kids, the youngest is 2. I have been on bc faithfully since and my periods have been regular, except for the past 2 months. I missed my period during the last week of my pills, then started a very light period 2 weeks into my next batch. I have not had a period now in 6 weeks. I have taken several hpts and they're all neg. I've had a lot of unusual aches and pains for weeks like I'm ovulating or ready to start, but nothing. Any ideas?

Answer

You have mentioned "missed your period during thelast week....". I presume you mean missed your pill during the last week. In that case , you would get some bleeding .The bleeding you had was your period also. Since your urine tests are negative, take duphaston tablets- one tablet twice a day for 5 days to get a period. Once you get a period, start the pill again. In case you forget a pill, take one the next morning. You may not get the irregular bleeding.

Question,

I have a baby and I wanted another.then I was examined to have PCOS. I start taking Clomid for 5 dys. On 11th day my doctor suggested taking Pregnyl and then have sexual intercourse. Could you please tell me how long after pregnyl should I have sexual intercourse- e.g after two days would be ok? thx a lot

Answer

The follicle usually ruptures (ovulation occurs) 24- 40 hours after pregnyl injection. So, two days should be fine. All the best !

Question,

Hello Doctor,
I just happened to browse thru Google looking for some information about Aspirin prescriptions during pregnancy.
I am in my 36th week right now.Unfortunately I have been losing weight continuously thruout this pregnancy. This is the my second pregnancy. The first one was uneventful(Boy-birth weight 3.1 kg-now 3 years old) and I had also gained around 12 kg or so during the first pregnancy, despite very poor eating habits due to severe morning sickness in the 1st and second trimesters.I haven't had any abortions or neither do I have any family or personal history of BP,or heart disease or diabetes.
This time however, the sickness had been considerably less. But the weight loss has been very prominent.I have lost a total of 9 kg so far.
The latest ultrasound has revealed that the baby is showing a growth of only 32 weeks or so in the abdominal region. The doctor has prescribed AminoSteril drips(IV)(500 ml) and mephamesone injections to improve the growth.
So also she has prescribed Juspirin(81 mg) tablets.I would like to know whether it is absolutely safe for me to take aspirin at this stage.Despite her assurance, I can't get the doubts off my mind. Please help me out.
Thanking you,

Answer

Usually, most obstetricians stop the aspirin at 36 weeks of pregnancy . What is your baby's weight? If it is around 2 kgs, you don't need to worry. If not, take the aspirin till 37 weeks of pregnancy.

Answer

The first period after a miscarriage can be delayed. If you still haven't got a period, do a urine test for pregnancy. If negative, take duphaston tablets- one tablet twice a day for 5 days . You should get a period within 10 days of stopping the tablets.

You have not mentioned your period date. If it is delayed,do a urine test for pregnancy. Also have an ultrasound done to rule out any ovarian cyst.

Question,

Hello, My name is Margaret and I am 34 years old. My question is for the last week I have had a discharge with a little blood in it. I had a BM and I think I might have pushed to hard. Also, I lost 83lbs. I don't hurt but once in a while. My question is, is it possibile to push to hard and can loosing weight cause things like this to happen?

Answer

Were you on a diet? How did you lose 83 lbs? If you were on a diet, you are probably constipated. In that case, when you push hard you may have some bleeding from the anus. Also, check that you do not have any hemorrhoids (piles).

Question,

Answer

The dose of the fertomid can be increased to two or three tablets a day. However, ultrasound should be done to determine the size of the follicle and to rule out any ovarian enlargement. I am sure you will ovulate with that. If not, let me know. Since your FSH is normal, clomid alone or together with certain injections will help. A laparoscopy will check whether your fallopian tubes are O.K. Have a protein rich in vitamins and minerals- vegetables and fruits. However, this does not help in ovulation, but improves your general condition.

I have been having this dark brown discharge for about a week now sometimes with blood and sometimes without. I have also been feeling sick and nauseated, i took a home pregnancy test and it came out negative. My period isnt due for a couple of days. please help me. what could this be. thanks

Answer

If you are around mid-cycle, you maybe ovulating. One does get discharge with pain and nausea around ovulation. Usually ovulation discharge is only for a day.See a gynec. who can examine you and determine whether you have any vaginal or cervical infection or polyp, as these may give the brown discharge.

Question,

Dear Doctor, I am 22 years old and have been married for 4 years. I was initially diagnosed cyst in one of my ovaries resulting in irregular period. Subsequently i had a laprascopy in Nov 2003. But teh process of irregularity of period continued. Then I was diagnosed polysistic ovaries recently after which I had my laproscopy done again last week. My both fallupian tubes are open what are my chances of pregnancy now that my laproscopy have been done successfully

Answer

Polycystic ovaries are usually present from puberty, so you must have had them before, but were not diagnosed. PCO is present in around 25% of females. It is associated with irregular periods, infrequent or absent ovulation, excessive hair growth and obesity. Do let me know if you are ovulating or not. Laparoscopy only gives information about your ovaries, tubes and other pelvic structures. By itself, it does not increase your pregnancy chances. If you are ovulating, you should conceive. Has your husband's semen been checked?

Question,

I am 19 yrs old. My period is due within the next few days but as of a week ago i noticed that my discharge is more whiter than usual..it's not heaps thick, just white and creamy like..I also every now and then feel like i need to urinate more frequently, but there is no burning and no pain when I do..what do u think is causing this?

Answer

You maybe having fungal vaginal infection. Use sporanox tablets- eat 2 tablets in the morning and 2 at night for one day. Also have your urine checked for infection. If required, take antibiotics .

Question,

I am concerned about whether or not I shoud consider another gynecologist or not. The one that I currently have was the only one that I have ever had. He diagnosed me with having PCOS 2 years ago. He put me on birth control pills, and metformin (twice daily)I was told that metformin may help me with the unwanted facial hair on my face and body, and that it may take up to a year to work sometimes. It hasn't worked as of yet. This is a very big concern for me. I am very selfconcious about it, and it's starting to have an affect on me. I am embarassed that I can't just wake up in the morning like normal women, that don't have to take care of their facial hair daily. My doctor has never asked me about this since diagnosed. He only seems concerned with whether my periods are regular. (They are now.)Is there anything that I could suggest that he prescribe for my problem? The other concern with the pcos is my getting pregnant someday. What are my chances?

Answer

PCOS is associated with irregular periods, absent or infrequent ovulation, excessive hair growth( hirsutism ) and obesity. It is present in 25 % of women. What is your testosterone level? Let me know , so I can advice you further.

Question,

I'm 15 and for several months I've had white thick discharge and it has a very bad smell.I have Dizzy Spells,Severe Headaches,I get Dizzy and my eyes get blurry until i cant see a thing then it fades to normal when i stand up after sitting down for along period of time.My balance is off.I get really tired and when i take naps and sleep at night i still dont feel rested.I get sick to my stomach at odd times. My stomach is sensitive to certain foods that i never had a problem with before. My eyes are sensitive to light.I am sensitive to sudden movement.I have gained 20 pounds over the past 2 weeks.I am really worried.I'm still a virgin so i know im not pregnuant. Please respond as soon as you can.thank you

Answer

The thick discharge can be due to fungal vaginal infection. Use sporanox - 2 tablets morning and 2 at night for 1 day. Have your hemoglobin checked. If below 10 mgm- take fefol tablets- one a day for one month. Take an antacid like moxal for your nausea.

Question,

Dear Doctor,

It is really nice to c a web site like this..
I am 25 yrs old and i got married 3.5 yrs ago. For two years ie till April 2004 i was using contraceptive pills. Since then my periods are very irregular( abt 1 or 2 months late). For about 8 months i tried concieving without treatment, but failed.
I consulted a gynecologist. She gave me Duphaston to induce periods. From the 2nd day till the 6th day of periods i took Fertomid tablets(2 per day). Starting from the 10th day onwards i started going for a scan for follicular studies. But sadly no follicles had developed.
Now the Doctor has advised me to undergo the same procedure just by increasing the number of Fertomid tablets to 3 per day.
I am very much anxious abt what the result would be. Doctor could u please tell me if this is a serious problem and whether i am undergoing the right kind of treatment. Is it that i wud not produce any follicle at all?.

The problem is I been having symptoms of preg. tired, food craving, etc., and I was diagnosed with mild dysplasia could this be causing my infertilty and what caused me period to be late.

Question,

Hello , Doctor:)
Is it normal to itchiness and an irritated vagina after sex?
have had yeast infections and bv in the past, which I have gotten rid of to my understanding, with consulatation with my obgyn. Can there be an underlying serious problem?
Thank you for your time..

Were you and your partner given any oral anti-fungal drugs like diflucan or sporanox? That would help reduce the recurrent infection. Also have your husband's semen examined and let me know the result. You can use travocort ointment twice a day for 5 days to reduce the itching.

Question,

I'm 41 years old, I have two children, I've recently suffered two miscarriage one at 7 week and another at 6 weeks, both times there was a heartbeat and then the fetus was gone. My body did not dispose of the pregnancy at my 10 week visit I discovered there was no heartbeat. Can you tell me the reason for this? Early in my 20's this happened, and the doctor gave me a shot, I do not know what the name of it was, but it brought my periods down and I got pregnant that same month and the pregnancy was fine. What shot could this have been? I do not know how to reach this doctor its been 11 years. I also have two small fibrods after a myomectomy in 1996. Is this the reason for the miscarriage? I always thought once you get a heartbeat it was good. Should I stop trying because of my age? I did not think it was my age since this happened in my 20's as well. Once I got that shot I had two children with no problems except my incompentent cervix. Please help

Answer

There are many reasons for a missed abortion. Chromosomal defects in the fetus is common, and more likely after the age of 35. Another reason maybe some hormonal abnormalities and sometimes certain infections like toxoplasmosis. I am not aware of any single shot which has an effect on the pregnancy. Certain injections like hcg are known to help during pregnancy. But these need to be taken during the pregnancy for upto 12 weeks .Some doctors also give cyclogest vaginal pessaries for the same. You can try any of these in your next pregnancy. Fibroids can cause a miscarriage at a later stage, but the heart beat would not stop. The most likely explanation in your case is chromosomal abnormalities. If you are still keen for another pregnancy, bear in mind that the incidence of chromosomal abnormalities at your age would be high and you could have the same problem again , even while on medication.

Answer

Folic acid should be taken whenever you are planning a pregnancy. This is to avoid certain abnormalities in the fetus. You can take clomid tablets- one tablet at night for 5 days, starting from the third day of the period. If you do not conceive with that , you must follow-up with a gynec. for adequate treatment. Since your husband refuses an examination, ask your gynec that you would like to do a PCT (post-coital test ). here you have intercourse and then see a gynec about 1 hour after that. The samples from your cervix and vagina are examined to see how many sperms stay alive. Also, ask your husband to reduce the smoking and drinking. If he is keen on a pregnancy, I'm sure he will agree .Once you are pregnant let me know, so I can advice you further to try and prevent another miscarriage. All the best !

Question,

I have been diagnosed with PCOS. I am on the pill to regularize my periods, help reduce the chances of getting an ovarian cyst, help my acne, its working really well but I just wanna know if i will be able to get children in the future? or it will be very difficult to get pregnant.

Answer

PCOs is associated with irregular periods, hormonal disturbances and irregular or absent ovulation. Whenever you want a pregnancy, you can do a clear plan test to detect whether you are ovulating or not. If you are not , certain tablets like clomid can induce ovulation. You should be able to conceive.

Question,

Question,

Hi doctor, I am having mild pelvic pain since 4 months. I did scanning, blood test, urine test, all are normal. And now i am 3 weeks pregnant but my pelvic pain is still there. So my doctor give my Duphaston 10mg, so is it safe for my baby to take this medicine.

Answer

Duphaston is safe for the baby. Regarding your pain, do you have constipation? If yes, take duphalac syrup. It is safe during pregnancy. Since your other tests are normal, don't worry about the pain.

Question,

I have always had a normal menstural - I started having alot of PMS problems, after trying Prozac and Effexor, which I didn't like and stopped taking them after one month - my Doctor then tried me on the birth control pill. Now for the past two months, I have bleeding severally with clots. I had a pap smear just in October of 2004. I have stopped taking the pill now and of course I have started bleeding and the clots are there. How do I stop the heavy bleeding? and get back to normal?

Answer

Have an ultrasound done to rule out fibroids or an ovarian cyst. During your periods, take cyclokapron tablets- one tablet three times a day from the 2nd day of the period for 3 days to reduce your bleeding. If your ultrasound is normal, have a blood test done for thyroid hormones. Let me know all the results, so I can advice you further.

Question,

yeast infections seem to make me get bladder infections cause of the heavey dischrge but its the antibiotics that are causing the yeastim in a cycle and cant get out went to family doctor and was given bactrim and 150 of diflucan daily but every time i eat something sweet it makes the yeast heavier and worse do you think i need a stronger antifungel or a different one like ketaconozole iwas told it is candida albicansiwas told that as long as you are on antibiotic you never will completely rid it but ithought if it was stronger it would control the yeast better and easier to over come is ketaconazole better than diflucanim scared to try it but ive been going in circles for ayear and half i really need some advice

Answer

Has your partner also been treated with anti-fungals? That is essential to prevent recurrences. Have a urine culture and sensitivity done. This will tell you which is the most appropriate antibiotic for you- so you should not need repeated courses of antibiotics. You can take the ketanozole, but take it after your antibiotic course is completed.

Question,

Just want to know if is it good to drink water on your menstral cycle or does it cause water retaintion ,also what is good excerise, and good foods to eat during it?

Answer

Water retention is common before your menstruation because of the hormonal changes. Some women have more and some less. Neither the amount of water you drink or the food you eat would affect your menstrual cycle. You should continue your normal food habits and activity during menstruation.

You can get pregnant till you reach your menopause. If you have not had a period for 1 year , then you are in menopause. A blood test is then done - serum FSH. If this is hight, then you are unlikely to get pregnant. Do a urine test for pregnancy. If you are in the peri-menopausal period, you will have dryness of the vagina. Change your vaginal lubricant .

Question,

I have a bump on the outside of my vaginal region. I shave both my bikini area and my vaginal area with a razor. It is only one bump. It is tender when my panties rub against it but that is it. It isn't painful. There is no open blistering or puss. It doesn't look like my regular razor bumps on my legs. My hair is just starting to grow back from my last shave. I have had one before and it stayed the same then just went away. It did have blood in it after I squeezed it but closed right back up like a pimple. Could you give me some knowledge on an ingrown hair possibly or maybe some kind of STD. I am married and have been with my husband only for three years. I know STd's can lay dormant. He has been checked and does not have any STD's such as Herpes or Warts. Just curious to know if me shaving like that would cause a bump like this or if it could be a Herpe?

Answer

Shaving could cause these bumps because of infection of the hair follicles. If they are not increasing in size, you don't need to worry about them You can use soframycein skin cream twice a day for 5 days.

Question,

iam 35 years olf.i am having polycystic ovaries having all the symptoms of increased weighr, hirsuitism, absent of periods for 1 year.after trying various treatments again i have startrd with the allopathic treatment.after taking provera for 10 dayd i got periods.i tested my hormones level on the 2nd day of the cycle.my hormones levels are prolactin-17.69,lh-6.91,fsh-4.21,t3-1.34,t4-109.62,tsh-2.41.doctor has givem me diamet 500mg twice a day for 2months continuously.along with orovera from the 15th day of my periods.i have got my periods now.i have to continue this medicine for another cycle and then i have to see the doctor for the next move.dr.please tell me whether my hormone levels are correct, and whether i will get a better result.what type of treatment will help to get a child.thank you for your answer.(in advance)

Answer

Diamet is fine. However, you need to know whether you are ovulating or not. Do a clear plan test for that. That will also indicate your most fertile period. If you are not ovulating , you will need clomid tablets. However, clomid should be taken only if you can have ultrasound monitoring done to check the size of the follicles and also to ensure that your ovaries are not forming cysts and getting enlarged (this is common with PCO). Your hormones are fine.

Question,

I have been trying to conceive for 3 years with no success. Have 12 year daughter from previous marriage. Results from consultation with Gyne my left tube is blocked and ovulating well. For my husband's semen test,he gave me a sealed enevelope and told my husband to see our doctor but my husband didn't. Do you think he is the one with problem. It is difficult for me to ask him. Please help.

Answer

If your husband refuses a semen test, ask your gynec. to do a PCT (post-coital test ) for you. Here , you have intercourse and then see the doctor 1-2 hours later. The samples from your cervix and vagina are examined to see whether an adequate amount of sperms are present or not. All the best!

Question,

I have too many questions and not enough answers.I just had an hsg done a few days ago and my gynocologist said that my tubes were open. But what does that mean? Does that mean I can get pregnant anytime or what? I also have PCOS and in a few day I have to go for blood work that she ordered( a 21 day test) If you could please help me to understand what is suposed to happen next. Please and THank you from Nicole.

Answer

One need to ovulate ( eggs to form ), have open tubes and an adequate husband's semen to conceive. Your tubes being open is a good sign. You can do a clear plan test to determine when you are ovulating and then plan intercourse accordingly. All the best!

Question,

Dear Doc, I hv this diluted (very liquid like) greenish discharge since Mar 04. I have seen numbers of Gynae but none can tell me what is wrong with me. I have done 2 pap smear, result was fine. I put insert into my virginal for treatment as well as I did a sound scan and wash my internal virginal weekly with Lactacyd Feminine. The abnormal discharge still continues. All my Gynae said was there is bacteria in there. It needs the other kind of bacteria to build up in order to have balance amount of bacteria then I should be considered recovered. I do not think this is that normal like he said, as it has been almost a year and non of the treatments seem to be working. Would really appreciate your advise. Thank you.

Answer

You need to do a HVS ( high vaginal swab ) . Here a sample of your discharge will be examined under a microscope to determine what type of infection you have- bacterial , fungal or trichomonial. Appropriate treatment can then be given If there is bacterial infection , have a culture and sensitivity test done of the discharge to determine which antibiotic will be most appropriate for you. Let me know the results, so I can advice you further.

Question,

I was 10weeks pregnant, but found out that i was getting some brownish spots on my panties. When we went for a check up, found out that the baby stopped growing at 7weeks & there was no heart beat.As per the gynec had it removed as it was not viable. Its now 6 weeks and i havent got my periods still... is there some problem?? My periods were regular earlier. please advise.. Thank you in advance.

Answer

The periods maybe delayed after a miscarriage. Have a urine test done to rule out any new pregnancy. If it is negative, take duphaston tablets- one tablet twice a day for 5 days to get a period. If you still do not get a period around 10 days after stopping the duphaston, have a ultrasound done.

Question,

Dear Sir/Madam,
I am 30 years old.I had 0ne laprotomy for my tubal pregnancy for removing ruptured left tube in April first week of 2004,my pregnancy was 39 th day .After 3rd month I became pregnant in july 2004.Due to some symptoms of tubal pregnancy, and I had stucking pain in my right side of the abdoman, doctor referred it was tubal pregnancy. Then my pregnancy was 35th day. That time I had chicken pox also.Doctor referred laproscopy for removing my embriyo. They gave methatraxate. After one day they did laproscopy in first august of 2004.Then doctor call my husband and told it's very difficult to remove. He cut my right tube(ie,corner to utrus) and tied.

Now I have two options,IVF and reconnect the tube. I have no children yet.I am very depressed.

My period is regular. Some days I had yellow coloured discharge (not regular). After intercourse, some blood is coming with the fluid. At the time of intercourse,I have little ache also.We are not use any contraceptive.Instead of that I have some abdoman and vagina ache also.(not regular)

Answer

IVF would be the best option for you as both your tubes are damaged. Since you have bleeding after intercourse, see a gynec. who can rule out any infection in the cervix or a polyp. These can give this bleeding. . The discharge maybe also due to these . Appropriate treatment can then be given. All the best !

Question,

I have elevated prolactin levels caused by my medication (risperdal). Can you tell me what problems might occur from long term high prolactin levels?

Answer

SDid you have high prolactin levels before the medication ? If the high prolactin is drug-related, you should not have any problems. You may get irregular periods. However, have an X-ray of the skull done to rule out any other cause for the high prolactin.

Question,

Hi,
I am 38 yrs old and have a five yr old baby. We had decided to have our second baby and I got my IUD removed then I was pregant but then in 12th week noticed that there was no heart beat for foetus and go the DNE done.WHich was on November 8th and enerythin went ok.But in december I did not get my periods properly during that time I had very little brown and reddish discharge and thats all. Now until today I havent got my periods. I did pregancy test 3 weeks ago and it was negative visited my doctor and took blood test which is showing high harmone level I had three blood test in past 4 weeks and harmone level is 122, 80, 66 and my doctor as told to get ultra sound this wednesday.
does this mean I am pregant? or what is going on?
thanks

Answer

I presume the hormone tested is beta- hcg. Since the level is falling, the pregnancy is not growing . So, there is no fear of an ectopic pregnancy (tube pregnancy). This could have been a new pregnancy which has stopped growing or it could be the hormones of the previous pregnancy which are now falling. In any case, you will not require any further treatment except repeat the hormone after a week or 10 days to ensure that it is below 4.

Question,

I'm 28 years old and have been off the pill for about 3 years. My husband and I want to start trying to have a baby this year. I have irregular periods lasting between 31-43 days. I was wondering what are my chances of conceiving. I did have an ultrasound about 3-4 months ago for severe RLQ pain (11th day of my cycle). It showed normal ovaries and follicles. Lt follicle was said to be normal and the rt side had a follicle that was 2.1 x 1.5 x 1.8cm...trace of free fluid found. Could I have ovualted? It would not even be close to the time that I would ovulate but could I have ovulated twice in the same month? Do lots of women conceive easily with irregualar periods. I have no symptoms of PCOS. I have taken my tempature for a couple of months and it does appear that I do ovulate. It showed a temperature rise... indicating that I may ovulate from the 16th to 22nd day. Am I being overly paranoid and should we start trying right away. I'm just afraid I may hav!
e difficulties.
Thank you

Answer

Relax! One does not ovulate twice unless one has multiple follicles. Probably in that cycle you ovulated on day 11 and not day 16 as you usually do. The other possibility is that you have a small ovarian cyst. Have an ultrasound done on day 5 of the period. If that cystic area persists, it is a small cyst. If it has disappeared, it was a follicle. Also, do a clear plan test to determine when you are ovulating and what your most fertile period is . This is more reliable than the temperature test. Is your husband's semen normal ? All the best !

Question,

I am 38yrs old (will be 39 in April 05) I have a 2 yr old son and I have been trying to have a second baby for more than 10months. I have so far taken 4cycles of clomid (3 at 50mg and one at 100mg), this month I had an injection of pregnyl (5000 iu) and commenced cyclogest on day 19 of my cycle. I had a Beta HCG test on day 24 of my cycle the result was only 1.4mIu and repeated the beta HCG on day 27 of my cycle and the result was 0.5mIU therefore I am assuming I am not pregnant again. My husband has had two semen analysis test one was normal with motility a little low 60-70% the other semen analysis test was very abnormal showing a low sperm count (18million sperm per ml), a low motility (40%) and no normal sperm. My doctor feels this result must be an error as my husband fathered a child 2 years ago. We are awaiting a third semen analysis result to clarify what the real situation is. I am feeling anxious that I may not get pregnant again. What would you advise from here on.
Thanks

Answer

Since the levels of beta- hcg are falling, you are not pregnant. Do let me know the results of the semen. I can advice you further accordingly.

Question,

Hi, I have a fishy odor. I've gone to the doctor last March when my pap smears was due, I told her about the odor, and she said that I had a bacterial infection. She gave me med. for it, but now the problem came back. Is this normal? Is there any medication ovrer the counter I can take for this? Because I can't afford to go to the doctor right know. Please help! I can't stand the odor.
Thanks,

Answer

Use betadine vaginal pessaries for 7 days. This should take care of your problem .If the infection persists, you will need to do a vaginal smear to determine the type of infection you have and then take the appropriate treatment.

Question,

I am 7 weeks pregnant now and i am having vaginal discharge, i have to use pad all the time and its very smelly, when i find out with friend they say its normal.. but i am just worried please help to clear my douts. thank you.

Answer

See your gynec who can determine the type of infection you have- bacterial or fungal and then take the appropriate treatment. Since you are pregnant, the right medication (which will not affect your fetus ) is essential.

Question,

I have a 21 day cycle and have read through some of your answers. You have stated that I would ovulate on day 6. I dont understand how. On day 6 I have a brown discharge. My periods usually last 4-5 days so if you could explain a with a little more detail. My husband and I wish to have a child but cant figure out this ovulation.

Answer

If you have a 21 day cycle - that is 21 days from the first day of the period -you may ovulate on day 6 . One usually ovulates 15 days prior to the next period. However, some women have a short luteal phase- they get a period in less than 15 days after ovulation. Do a clear plan test from around day 5 of the cycle and let me know when you ovulate, so I can advice you further.

Question,

i am 26 years old and has never had sex. I am saving myself for marriage but that is besides the point. Ever since i started having periods i have always had problems. Some months there is heavy bleeding and some months not so heavy. I have had two cysts that have reptured. VERY MUCH PAIN. I also experiences a lot of vomiting and nausea before, during and after my period. Just a week ago I was hospitalizied for another ruptured cyst. I had a ultrasound done while I was in the hospital, by the way it showed that i had a reputured cyst. just yesterday 1/4/05 i was schedule for a CT scan. I am still in tremendous pain. the only thing that iwas given was toridol for the pain. Yesterday I had to go to the ER before I was to have to CT done. they found out that I have a 2.4cm cyst on my ovaries. I know that they say that you should have babies and that would get rid of cysts but I don't know why that would be suggested. I also am aware of what they say about birth control pills. The only thing with that is that I have a lot of cancer that runs through my family line and I am just afriad to take those pills. could you recommend something that my help me with the problems that I am having? I know that age has nothoing to do with it but i think that i am to young to go through these probelms.

Answer

Nausea and vomiting before periods is common. You can take some antacid like gelucil for that. Cysts are common in young women. These are due to various causes. Not all cysts disappear in pregnancy. Some cysts do respond to certain hormonal tablets. Which cancers are common in your family and in whom? Do let me know , so I can assess the risk versus the benefit of giving you pills . The pills may reduce the cysts.

Question,

I am 51. Had a hysterectomy at 39 r/t fibroids. I retained my ovaries. I have no major health issues and take no medications. I do take various health supplements. My question is in regard to a brownish vaginal discharge which is foul smelling and various eruptions of abcess like formations on the outside of the vagina, which drain a watery blood-tinged substance. I am not sure if the two are related. My physician said they could be infected hair follicles but I have never had them before till now. Not shave related. Also the discharge she said could be caused by aging and thining of the lining. I don't feel this is normal but she did not chose to treat it. She recommended mild vinegar douche 2 times a week. This made it worse. Would you advise me on what I should do that may help get rid of this condition. The bumps are painful. I am divorced X 3 years and abstinent. Thank you in advance for your help.

Answer

The eruptions could be due to infected hair follicles. You can use soframycein skin cream twice a day for 5 days. If it does not settle, you may need oral antibiotics. The brownish vaginal discharge could be due to infection in the vagina. You should do a vaginal smear to check the type of infection. If there is no infection and is only due to an atrophic(dry ) vagina, you can use premarine vaginal cream for 7 days. Do let me know if you need further advice after this.

Question,

I've been off of depo for one month now. My Husband and I have taken a ovulation test to find my two most fertile days. Well my two fertile days were Dec 13th and 14th. Can I still become pregnant if having intercourse within those two days?

Answer

Since the ovulation test showed you were ovulating, you should get pregnant. All the best!

Question,

i hello, i am so hoping you can help me a.s.a.p. in the last three days i have benn experiencing severe dryness in the vulval area and extreme pain and itching in that area and in the opening to the vagina. plus i am having a very very thick off color discharge that looks like cottage cheese. big chuncks of it are discharging from me when i urinate. i never had this in my life. there is no odor. there is also blood in it. i have had a sinuse and upper respitory infection since august. i was on amoxicillan, macrobid, flagyl and cefaclor. not all at once but at different times during the infection of the sinuses. noe of those meds helped my sinus problem or sever cough or congestion. besdies the point.. i am very concerned about this discharge. what is this??? can this be a sexually transmitted diease. i had a hysterectomy 3 yrs ago. so the blood wouldnt be from a period.. or is this a yeast infection..can you help me..thank you.....

Answer

This seems like a fungal vaginal infection. You can use gyno-pevaryl combipack. This includes 3 vaginal pessaries to be inserted one at night for 3 nights. The cream can be used on the vulva twice a day for 5 days. After this, to prevent further dryness, you can use oilatum soap. Also use sebamed oil after a bath. Antibiotics predispose to a fungal infection.

Answer

Please let me know whether your periods are regular, have you checked whether you are ovulating or not (by the clear plan method ) and also your husband's semen report. I can advice you further on receiving these details.Which urine test have you been using? Was it strongly positive or weakly positive? Sometimes, a faint line is seen just prior to the period.

please reply me doctor

Answer

You will need to tell me the normal range of the thyroid hormones. These vary from lab . to lab.The range and the method maybe different in Singapore & India, so to compare the response it is essential to know the range . Irregular periods are normal with thyroid dysfunction. Are you planning a pregnancy now? If yes, your thyroid hormones should be checked every 15 days to ensure that you are on the correct dose of medication. You should have normal thyroid hormone levels when you conceive.

Question,

I am a 19 year old female. Since I've started to shave, I've noticed that between my legs and bikini area have become very dark. I am currently using a cream named "Fair & White" but the cream doesnt seem to be effective. Whenver i also shave my legs and other areas of my body my skin would itch until the hair shoots out back. Under my arm also is very dark and i am wondering if this has happened due to shaving. I have never visited a skin doctor for this problem.

I would really like you to recommend a cream to permanently remove the marks.

Answer

The darkness around the areas mentioned is normal and not related to shaving. Unfortunately, all creams are not very effective. Certain creams like eldopaque are not recommended for the vulval areas.

Question,

I stopped having the Depo privera injection early August, its now Late December and I still have not had a period, I bled more when I was having the injection.

I have notice that I'm loosing hair, considerably more than normal, I have lost almost a third from my head, this started about 2 months ago. My chest also swelled a month ago, as it used to before a period and before having the depo and it has gone down but is very sore, feels bruised and uncomfortable. I also keep getting headaches.

Should I visit my doctor or is this common following discontinuing with the depo, my hair and no periods is bothering me. How long does it normally take to return to normal after the injection (I was on it 18 months)

I am not pregnant and this is really getting me down, as when my sister came of the depo she developed symptoms like PCOS, and had not had a period for over two years, and nothing is apparently wrong with her? Thankyou.

Answer

Check your urine for pregnancy. If it is negative, use duphaston tablets- one tablet twice a day for 5 days to get a period. Breast congestion and hair loss can be due to the provera. You can use pantogar tablets- one tablet thrice a day for 45 days and foltene ampoules locally thrice a week to prevent further hair loss. Usually one gets a period within 5 months of the last injection. PCOS cannot develop after depo. Your sister must have had PCO which was not diagnosed earlier.

Question,

Hi, I had a miscarraige at 8 wks in Aug,cause was unknown pinkish discharch led to heavy bleeding, ultrasound showed failer of growth after 5 wks my doc have adviced me to start taking Ascard 75 mg when ever i 'll conceive next is it ok i m taking folic acid as well as Ca-C 1000 i really appreciate ur any kind of information n precautions so that i dont have any doubts n fears for my second pregnancy thanx

Answer

Ascard 75 is fine. I would suggest that since your miscarriage was very early, you can start the ascard just after you ovulate. ( This can be checked on ultrasound or by the clear plan test ) Some of us also give progesterone tablets or certain injections in addition to the ascard. You will have to check with your gynec. regarding that. All the best !

Question,

hello doctor,my name is geetha,i am 24 years old.in 2003 i delivered a baby girl.its a ceserean birth.my periods are regular,i dont had any problem with my periods.but, from since 4 months ,in each month, after ovulation (i can feel the ovulation cramps etc..)till mensus date i am feeling light varginal bleeding every day,not whole day.from 6 months we are trying for another baby.please help me doctor.

Answer

Have a vaginal examination done. This would determine whether you have any cervical erosion or polyp which is giving you the bleeding. Also, are you ovulating? You can determine that on ultrasound or by doing the clear plan test at home.

Question,

For the past two menstral cycles it would be there normally for 5 days then stop. Two days later.....blood and pain free...it would come back but be brownish with clots. there is no abnormal smell or anything else abnormal. Can you help? What on earth is this?

Answer

Have a vaginal examination done. This would determine whether you have a cervical erosion or a polyp or a vaginal infection. Also , have an ultrasound done to determine whether you have a fibroid or an ovarian cyst. Let me know the results, so I can advice you further.

Question,

I started having this yucky brown discharge it doesnt smell and I just had an IUD put in could you tell me why this is happening is it form the IUD or is my husband cheating and I have a STD??? please help

Answer

An IUD does give rise to a vaginal discharge and some spotting . See your gynec. who can examine you and give you the appropriate treatment.

Question,

I am 45 yrs old,and have been having irregular periods for the last past year.My mother has passed away about only 4 months ago,and havent had a period for that 2 months right after.just this past month i had two of them starting out with a brownish color.I dont have a regular flow that i used to,but i have cramping, memory loss, anxiety, headaches, joint aches, and depression,do you have an idea what would be causing this?
thanks!

Answer

I am sorry to hear about your mother's death. Irregular periods , anxiety, depression are very common after this emotional upheaval. You have to take hold of yourself and try and get on with your life. Talk to your family members or friends who can help you overcome this grief. Also, have an ultrasound done to rule out any fibroid or ovarian cyst.

Question,

i have been having heavy periods starting a couple of months ago. Went to my doctor and found out that i had ovarian cysts. I was givin progesteron to releave the bleeding. As of a couple of months now i have had very smelly periods and more abnormal discharge inbetween. Is this from the ovarian cysts or do i have a infection of some sort?

Answer

Is the abnormal discharge blood (brown, black or pink)? If it is yellow or white it is probably due to infection. See your gynec. who can examine you and determine whether you have an infection or a polyp pf the cervix. If it infection, appropriate treatment can be taken. Bleeding in between periods may occur with cysts. Repeat your ultrasound once your progesterone is completed to determine whether the cyst is still present.

Question,

My husband has Crohn's disease and he is being put on a new medication called Humira. I want to try and get pregnant, but I want to make sure the medication does not affect his semen therefore not affecting the fetus. It is safe to get pregnant?

Answer

Humira is not known to affect the sperm. However, do have his semen examination done and let me know the result. You can go through the following web-site which mentions all the side-effects of humira : www.rxlist.com/dgi/generic3/humira.ad.htm

Question,

I am 26 years old and have a baby that is almost one year old. My husband and I would like to try again for a baby. We haven't used any contraception since our son was born. I breastfed for 5 months. My doctor tells me that I am probably not ovulating so they wanted to put me on birth control pills for three months to regulate my hormones. My question is that they never checked my hormone levels and I am not sure if they are right or not. I am checking my ovulation with sticks this month. Still nothing yet but I am only cycle day 12. Should I go back on birth control for three months or should I try clomid? Thanks

Answer

If you are not ovulating, it would be advisable to start clomid. Taking the oral contraceptives will prevent ovulation during that time , will only regularize your cycles and you may or may not ovulate even after stopping them. Start the clomid- one tablet a day from the 3rd day of the period for 5 days. However, you must follow-up by ultrasound whether you are ovulating or not and whether you are forming any cysts with that. All the best !

Question,

DEAR DOCTOR I HAD A CREAMY DISCHARGE AND I FIGURED IT WAS A YEAST INFECTION. I WENT TO THE DOCTOR FOR IT AND SHE GAVE ME A DIFLUCAN FOR IT. I THOUGHT THE YEAST INFECTION WAS STILL THERE SO I WENT BACK TO SEE HER. SHE TOLD ME THE YEAST INFECTION WAS GONE BUT I STILL HAVE A LITTLE BIT OF DISCHARGE WHICH DOESN'T LOOK NORMAL. WHAT CAN THIS BE?

Answer

You can use betadine vaginal pessaries for 7 nights and see the response. ( Confirm that you are not allergic to its contents)

Question,

I am 37 years old and do not have any reason to believe I am pregnant (the last time I had sex was in September and have had two periods since then). Today, I noticed spotting on my panties but my period ended over a week ago and I have never had spotting problems. When I go to the bathroom, I notice small brown/red clots with a little small brown liqiudy discharge. Nothing hurts down there and there is no smell. My abdomen is unusually blotted as well. Not sure if this matters, but for the last 6-7 months, my right inner thigh has been swollen. I can't even cross my foot onto the opposite knee to tie my shoelaces when putting on shoes. My doctor has done a sonagram on the thigh, a nerve test, EKG and doppler (everything is normal). So, thought I would mention the thigh. I had an ovarian cyst on the right side that burst when I was 19 and had surgery. Should I be concerned about this discharge?

Answer

Have an ultrasound done to rule out any ovarian cyst or a fibroid. Also, have a vaginal examination done to rule out any vaginal or cervical infection or polyp. Let me know the results, so I can advice you further.

Question,

I am a 19 year old on Estrostep for ovarian cysts for about 2.5 years. This summer I was diagnosed with hypothyroid. My father also has an underactive thyroid. My endocrinologist said that the birth control pills might have "brought the hypothyroid gene out" is this possible? Should I consider going off the b.c. pills? Will being on birth control pills now and being hypothyroid make it even more diffucult to concieve later on? Thank You.

Answer

The birth control pills may have affected your thyroid levels. Are you on any medication for hypothyroidism ? Repeat the thyroid tests while on medication for at least 3 weeks and let me know the results. If while on medication you are " euthyroid" (normal levels ) , you should not have any problems in conceiving.

Question,

it's my first time using the pills so it's new to me... when i went to my doctor for papsmear i ask my doctor to give me pills (gracial)and i'm taking them since the first day of my period but i forgot to take the pills one day so i stop taking them but the problem is that i still have blood and it's like 16 days already. shall i go to my doctor? or is it normal coz i stop the pills? or is it something else i should be alarmed.... please help me! many thanks

Answer

If you stop the pill in between the cycle, you will bleed. You can take dicynone or cyclokapron tablets- one tablet three times a day for 3 days to stop the bleeding. In future, if you forget one pill DO NOT STOP. Take an extra pill the next day and continue the packet.

Question,

Hi!- I'm 21 yrs old. When I was 17 yrs old (2000) I had an abortion by pills, and after I had performed a home test that revealed the pregnancy had be terminated I never did a proper scan, I have had sexual intercourse since, and have been diagnosed with 2 yeast infections and a STD since, which my current boyfriend had to take tablets for just in case he had it. I have been experiencing some abdominal cramps but nothing serious (usually during my period), but I am afraid of getting it further checked, the previous times I have been to Gynecologist I didn't mention this to him (the 4 year ago abortion) nor do I think any obvious signs have been there since he never asked. I have also taken the after morning pill called Postinour II, but try not to use it as much, since they also cause me bleeding, messing up my monthly cycle. Is there a way I could have this checked out without having to go through any lengthily examinations? Or would this have any effects for when!
I do plan to start a family?. Please help.

Answer

If you do not have any infection now, you do not need any examination. However, if you wish to conceive now, you must see a gynec. who can advice you further.

Question,

I am seema, staying in Sharjah.I am explaining my problem here under

I got pregnant on Oct-2002(first time).I consulted a doctor and she checked and priscribed Folic acid once in a day.after one and half month I lost the baby by a sudden bleeding.Doctor took a scan and said everything was cleared. There after I got my periods in jan-2003 end,it was heavy and long.Again I consulted a doctor and took medicines for stop bleeding. Bleeding stopped but after that my periods was irregular. This time doctor had gone for vacation.

I had consulted another doctor, she said I have PCOS after scan. She priscribed Metaphage(metaphormin-500mg)twice a day and daily one folic acid and advised me to reduce my weight.I was 60kgs and I reduced upto 46 kgs by diet control(protein foods) and exercise.

I got pregnant again on sept-2004.My LMP was on 12.9.04.Doctor checked heart beats and babies position etc and she advised me to continue Metaphage and folic acid tablets. After one month I saw slight brown discharge, again I consulted my care taker and she has given DUPHASTONE twice a day and JUSPIRIN-81mg tablets once a day in addition.I got chicken pox in April-04, that's why doctor priscribed juspirin for prevention from infection.Their was no much change in discharge and doctor advised me to take weekly injection. I took Premiluton injection for 2 weeks(for stop discharge) and pregnil injection for 5 weeks (for support)and also checked heart beats by scan. After third month,on 9.12.04 morning I had a bleeding with bright red colour but without pain, immediately I took a scan. Doctor's report says "the placenta is located on anterior utreine wall and is low laying touching internal OS.There is evidance of minimal retroplacental collection seen at lower end and in the cerv!
ical canal. She concluded that I have grade1 placenta previa with retroplacental haemorrhage".She advised me to take bed rest, the same day evening I had cough and slight fever.I consulted doctor and took 2 panadol tablets with hot water. On 10th and 11th I had bleeding, On 12th day morning while urinatig I saw a tissue like reddish substance and my baby was quickly ported out.Soon I admitted in hospital and doctor said the placenta has seperated from baby and came out. There after they have done D&C.Now I am taking rest.

Doctor, I have following doubts

1.What is the reason for the placenta previa? Whether my care taker guided in proper way?
2.I have done FSH,LH,Prolactin and TFT hormone tests and folicular study on 13.09.04 that time result shows normal. Is it requied any other hormone tests in future?
3.When I can try to get pregnant? Is it required to do any tests before I am getting Pregnant? Please give the details if so
4.In next pregnancy is there chance to develope the abnormal formation of placenta?
5.Now doctors says to continue to take folic acid and Metaphage tablets. Is it required to continue Metaphage after pregnancy?
6.Now my ovaries are functioning normal. So is it required to control my diet? Present body weight is 46kgs only.

Please give the details of your consulting clinic and phone no.Give your consultation time, appointment details etc

I hope you can help me in this regard.

Answer

Sorry to hear about your miscarriages. You don't need to lose any more weight , but make sure you do not gain too much. You should continue the folic acid tablets. Avoid a pregnancy till March 2005. You can start the metaphage tablets from 15th February. When you get your period in March, let me know. If you can come to Muscat around the 20th day of that period, I can advice you further. Unfortunately, nothing can be done about a placenta previa forming, but one can sometimes prevent bleeding due to a placenta previa. Get 300 tablets of duvadilan (10 mgm)and 300 gravidin tablets from India and keep them with you . I will advice you later how to use them during your pregnancy.
My clinic is Qurum Clinic and is between the Qurum Natural park and the Crown Plaza Hotel. My telephone no. is (968) 24 563181. You can take an appointment in March when you get your period. Do bring all your reports with you.
Don't worry, you should be fine during your next pregnancy!

Question,

Hello
I am being treated with bromocriptine for idopathic (two MRI's and no tumor seen) hyperprolactinemia. I also have cystiv ovaries but don't seem to have pcos. After 4 months of bromo my prolactin is at a normal level. Will my cysts go away now that my hormones are normalizing? Will I need clomid to ovulate? I am trying to get pregnant for 2+ years.
Thank you

Answer

Do a clear plan test to check whether you are ovulating or not. Is your prolactin level normal even after stopping the tablets? Usually, one does need to continue the bromocryptine. What is the size of the ovarian cysts? Do let me know so I can advice you further.

Question,

I had a miscarriage at 7 weeks pregnancy. The gynac had my pelvic sonography to check for mid cycle oculation and polcystic ovaries.the doctor ruled out polycystic ovaried but said that the ultrasouind does not show ovulation.we had been trying for 6 months before i conceived. My husband had a semen analyis done and results were normal. Now the doctor has put me on clomid from days 5-7 and duphaston from day 21-30.Is duphaston safe and under normal circumstances how long after taking clomid does pregnancy occur.I am having regular periods. Is it possible to habving regular periods, normal ovaries and no ovulation?,Thankyou for your answer

Answer

Have you done an ultrasound to check whether you are ovulating or not after the clomid. An ultrasound will also tell you when the ovulation will take place. It varies from the 11th to the 18th day, so it is essential to do the ultrasound. Also, an ultrasound will reveal whether you are forming any ovarian cysts. Let me know the results, so I can advice you further.

Question,

I am 37 years of age and found out that i have multiple fribrods i about 8 cm in width. What effect can menopause have on them?

Answer

During menopause the fibroids usually reduce in size. Are your fibroids increasing in size? Repeat a scan every 3 months to check the size. If they are not increasing and you do not have any problems , you do not need to worry about them.

Question,

I had my first baby on September 24, 2004 and I got a depo shot the day I left the hospital not thinking that the depo will make me bleed everyday. I know this from past experience. Today (Friday, December 17, 2004) I'm still bleeding but I just switched to Yasmin birth control pills and today is my 3rd day and it hasn't stopped yet. my doctor gave me a patch to put on because at the time my doctor's appoint to switch over to the pills was 3 weeks away and the patch was only for 7 days but after the 7 days the bleeding started again but a little worst and the pill that I'm on isn't any better. how long will it be before I the bleeding stops and what can i get to stop it because i'm really tired of this bleeding it's making me really depressed to where I can work or function. Please help me.

Answer

The effect of the depo should have stopped by January. If you are still spotting, take exacyl tablets- one tablet three times a day for 3 days. Also, ensure that you are taking the Yasmin at the same time everyday. If the bleeding still persists after 2 cycles of Yasmin, let me know- you might require a pill with a higher hormone content.

Question,

my daughter is 16,always been very irregular with periods and also excessive bleeding almost 5 months none stop, and weight gain. have have her tested recently for blood count, thyroid, female homornes, and last spring she had an ultrasound for those cysts, every test comes back normal. should she just try birth control pill to straighten out her periods?, but then will there be more of a weight gain, she's very heavy. when she bleeds it's usually very heavy also. need some advice here. thanks

Answer

Do let me know her hormone results. Her symptoms seem typical of PCO- Polycystic ovaries. Sometimes on abdominal ultrasound the polycystic ovaries are not detected. I would advice you to encourage her to lose weight. Also, if she misses her period by 5 days, give her duphaston tablets- one tablet twice a day for 5 days. This will be better than taking the pill throughout the month. The pill might increase her weight also. If the periods are still heavy after the duphaston, give her exacyl tablets- one tablet three times a day for 3 days from the second day of the period. Continue this for 3 cycles and let me know the response.

Question,

Hello Doctor,im 27 years old and have been sexually active with the same partner for the past 6 years,i also take the pill{yasmin} for the past 6 months or so have been expreiancing light bleeding after sex.I also experiance discharge green in colour with a horrible smell,i went for a smear test about 4 weeks ago and the nurse who examined me said it looked like cervix erosion, but she would need to get the results back first from the swab taken.I am so worried, what does this mean and is there any treatment i can have done.Or even something that can be perscribed to take away the very bad smell while im waiting for my results to come back.Your help would be appreciated. Thanks

Answer

You can use dalacin vaginal cream at night for 7 nights. Avoid intercourse during that period. You would require to do cryosurgery for your cervical erosion. The bleeding after intercourse and the discharge are due to the erosion.

Question,

IDear Doctor,
am carrying now.About 3 months.I have PCOD problem. so only after an induced ovulation, by Clomid, I got ovulation and got pregnant. Doctor said I have abortion tendency due to hormonal imbalance and advised to take PREGNYL 5000 injection each a week for 2 weeks and also Duphaston twice a day for the same 2 weeks. After that she asked me to stop Pregnyl 5000 and Duphaston. She adviced another injection- Primolut Depot 250mg - each a week for 6 weeks. Could you please advise me whether my tendency for abortion is so high. Also pls advice whether these medicines are bad to my baby. Many are saying like taking too much medicines during pregnancy will affect the baby's health. Please advice urgently.Thank you.

Answer

Pregnyl and duphaston are safe. I usually give them both till 12 weeks of pregnancy. Why did your doctor change to primolut? It can cause certain abnormalities in the fetus when given in pregnancy. I would advice you to continue the pregnyl injections and the duphaston till 12 weeks. Also, let me know your ultrasound report regarding the size of the fetus and also whether there are any ovarian cysts( not only the polycystic ovaries ).

After using the BC pill(Dianne) for 9 months, we wanted to have a baby..the doctor monitored my ovulation and prescribed duphaston which she wanted me to use from day 21 of my cycle for 5 days. Now my query is, inbetween we had an intercourse on day 17 without using any contraceptives as per the doctors suggestion. Are there any chances of me getting pregnant and if so will the usage of duphaston cause any problems ?

I presume you had a gap of 2-3 months between stopping the Dianne and trying for a pregnancy. Duphaston is safe in pregnancy.

Question,

Hi. I am 20 and a little worried about my body hormones. I had my last period Nov.8'2004 and it's now Dec. 11 and i still haven't gotten one. I took a pregnancy test and it came out negative. My worry is why haven't I gotten a period and most important why do I feel that my breast are bigger, something like they have milk in them. I am very concerned because I am also feeling those little cramps that I feel when I'm starting my period.

Answer

If you have milk in your breasts- do a prolactin estimation. This is a hormone which can secrete milk and make the periods irregular. Also have an ultrasound done and let me know the results of both.

Question,

Our first child was died by drowning that time my wife was pregnant for 6 months and when he born we came to know that he has a hole in the heart and he was operated. In the third pregnancy after 8 months there was a intrautrine death occure by multiple defects than foruth pregnancy she was suffering form sever fever with cold and cough and in 2nd month she missed the pregnancy. And again she is missed her period more than a month but there was a white sticky discharge. So please help us by giving the answer the reason for the discharge.

Have you done a pregnancy test now ? If the discharge is clear she does not need any treatment. If it is white( like yoghurt ) it maybe due to fungal infection.
