Question

I am 43 years old. My last period was 6-20-06. and up till this moment and i have not start my period. I have used the home pregnancy which came back negative. My breast is not tender or any sings and symptoms of being pregnant. I am very concerned about this and i am thinking, i may be experincing menopause which will be very devasting to me because I do not have child, but have miscarried 7 times. Please Doctor help me to allay me concerns. Prior to this time my period was regular, but sometimes with some clot for the first fews.

Answer

Sorry to hear about your miscarriages. If you have not yet got a period, take duphaston tablets- twice a day for 5 days. Do a blood test - serum FSH on day 3 of the period and let me know the result. This will let us know whether you are going into menopause or not. If you are planning to conceive , you have to take treatment to help you conceive , as you should not wait much longer. Let me know whether you are ovulating or not by doing the clear plan test during your next cycle. Also, his your husband's semen normal? Are your tubes patent?

Question

I am 4 month pregnant. My doctorwrongly prescribed me to take fertomid-50 twice, now I am under another doctor who told fertomid is wrongly prescribed it should be ferronine-60.is  there any bad effect of taking fertomid-50 for last 2 months?

Answer

Fertomid may cause ovarian cysts if taken for a long time. Have an ultrasound done to determine that and that your baby is fine.

Question

I am 34. four feet eight inches in height and weigh 51 kg. My periods were always irregular. Now am married and we are eager to have a baby. My doctor has prescribed primolut N for 5 days. to be followed by siphene for five days from the 3rd day of periods. Please advise if some specific care is to be taken to increase the chances of success. Also i am worried about further weight gain

Answer

Do you have PCOS ( polycystic ovarian syndrome )? This is associated with irregular periods , increased weight, increased body hair and absence of ovulation. Siphene is fine for that. However, you must do ultrasound after taking siphene to determine when you are ovulating and However, you must do ultrasound after taking siphene to determine when you are ovulating and that they are not getting enlarged. . You have to be on a low fat , low calorie diet and exercise ( even walking) , to ensure that you do not increase your weight. Also have your tubes been checked? What is your husband's semen result ?

Question

Is it normal that the fluid comes out after having sex

Answer

Yes. There is no mechanism in the vagina to hold the semen, so it would come out.

Question

I had a miscarriage about a week ago i did not have to do a d&c the pregnancy was just about a month i had cramping which started out real mild and then got worse. how soon can i expect my period back. I got pregnant using clomid

Answer

Sorry to hear about your miscarriage. You can expect your next period after 35-45 days.

Question

I am a 41 yr old female, and I have this smelly discharge before and after my period. It's unbearable for me to smell it and I know I don't have an std. Is it possible that this is all due to the fact that I am going through menopause now? My period has gotten lighter for about 2 years now, and only lasts for 3-4 days.

Answer

You must have a vaginal smear and culture and sensitivity test done to determine the type of infection you have and the best antibiotic that you might require. If you are still getting your periods, you are not yet menopausal. However, there maybe dryness of the vagina which may increase your infection. Have you done an ultrasound to rule out an ovarian cyst ? This may sometimes cause irregular and scanty periods.

Question

My wife is in 2nd trimester and her ultrasound showed raised RI of 0.93 (resistance index), DOC prescribed her Loprin. Will she be OK, would LOPRIN will help. What can she do to fix the RI.

Thanks

Answer

Loprin should help. However, you need to tell me the following- How is the growth of the fetus, is the amniotic fluid fine? does she have hypertension? does she have anti- phospholipid syndrome ?

Question

I have been undergoing testing for infertility. The HSG showed that I have one fallopian tube and that it is obstructed. Then, I had a transvaginal ultrasound that showed nothing. Then, I had an abdominal CT scan that said that I could POSSIBLY have a uterine fibroid and cysts on both ovaries. My doctor looks at hte CT scan as negative and is doing a laproscopy in two weeks. Why don't any of the test results agree?

Answer

All the tests are specific for different things. For example, an HSG and laparoscopy would show the patency of the tubes, but would not be able to detect intra- mural ( within the myometrium ) fibroids. These can be detected by ultrasound or CT and these procedures cannot determine tubal patency. Usually, vaginal ultrasound would be able to detect the fibroids, so it is unlikely that you have them. However, sometimes bowel shadows interfere with optimal visualisation during a vaginal scan.

Question

Dear doc I just finished my 1st IVF(performed on 19th July)with negative results.22eggs were collected.Iam waiting for my next cycle to start.I had slight bleeding(spotting)since yesterday.Should I consider it as the start of my period? My last period was on 5th July.I stopped Crinone gel and Progyluton tablets on4th August. Is it due to weakness? Is it advisiable to postpone my next IVF to the next cycle? For how long does the effect of Decapeptyl injection last? Can i get stronger for this cycle itself if i have eggs, milk, folicAcid, raisins(pregnancy diet)? For how long do thawed embryos last?Eagerly waiting for your kind reply. Nita

Answer

Are you pregnant? You could have bleeding during pregnancy. If you are not, you can repeat the IVF again as long as your ovaries are now normal and there are no cysts. There is no diet which can improve your chances of conception. I presume you are taking folic acid tablets.Frozen embryos last for several years, but each centre has different rules regarding how long they keep the embryos, so you will have to check that with your centre. All the best for the future !

Question

Hi doctor, I am chandni 27yrs marriedfor last 2.5 years but not able to conceive. but after consulting doctor we started with siphene, andthis month my date was due on 7 of aug(previous month 9july) but stilli didn't got my periods rather than it i am geting dark spot since 5 aug iam getting cramps in lower abdomen getting hungry frequentlyand ache in back. cud i say i am pregnant.

You must have got a period by now. If not, repeat the pregnancy test , as you can have spotting during pregnancy. If you have got a period, have you started on siphene again ? However, you must do ultrasound after taking siphene to determine when you are ovulating and that they are not getting enlarged.

Question

On my second preganacy i was prescriped duphaston tablets because i bleeded for a couple of days and had to have a bedrest for some time. Do these tablets harm the baby or have any side effects even on the mother please?

Answer

Duphaston is safe for both mother and baby. It does help in preventing a miscarriage in some cases.

Question

I'm 24 years old. I have always had a 5-7 day heavy period. However, this month I started on time but my period only lasted about an hour. I have taken 3 tests and they are all negative. For the past 3 weeks I have had PMS symptons and severe lower back pain. What should I do?

Answer

Since your tests are negative, it is unlikely that you are pregnant. If you have not got another period a month after the previous one, repeat the test. If the next period is also scanty have an ultrasound done to rule out an ovarian cyst. If this is normal, have your thyroid hormones checked. An occasional scanty period is nothing to worry about.

Question

I m 45 , married over 3 yrs trying to conceive. menstartionconpletely irregular, did blod test and LH is high, ovarian failure. I really want o conceive. Help me what drugs do I take. Last menstrated in May with aid of drun. Not menses still, Dr has given me Primolut N 2tabs x3 times daily for 5 days. That if preg it will not affect fotus and if not I will bleed after 3 days of stopping it.

Please advise

Answer

You have mentioned that LH is high. What about FSH? Repeat the FSH on day 2 of the cycle and let me know the result, so I can advice you further. If you have not yet taken primolut, take duphaston- one tablet twice a day for 5 days.

Question

Is it normal not to ovulate after been pregnant for 6 months? I lost the baby 4months ago. when will my ovulation start? before I fell pregnant I was ovulating on the 21st day. will the same happen now or will i ovulate on the 14th day?my cycle is 28days

Answer

Sorry to hear about your loss. Usually, one gets a period within 2 months of the delivery or miscarriage. Do you have any breast secretion ? Have your prolactin hormone tested. If it is high, this could be the reason for your absence of periods. Let me know the result, so I can advice you further. Stress or depression may also cause menstrual irregularities, so try and relax mentally.

Question

Dear, Doctor,How to improve my wifes eggs. Its size is 9.9mm max.

THS & LH harmone is normal.

Answer

What is her FSH level on day 2 of the cycle. If it is normal, she can take clomid tablets. However, this must be done under ultrasound supervision, so you must be seen by a gynecologist treating infertility cases. Let me know the result of the scan on day 11 of the cycle, so I can advice you further.

Question

Trying to conceive after 2 years of marriage. one ivf failed.in view of my fallopian tubes patient and good uterus i wish to conceive naturally or iui.i am 38 years of age.please suggest

Answer

Are you ovulating regularly? If not, you can take clomid tablets and try IUI since your tubes are patent. Why was the IVF done? What is your husband's semen report? Which city are you in ? Let me know, so I can advice you further.

Question

Hi doctor, I want to know when is the correct date to start trying for a baby after periods.i have been trying to conceive for last 6months,but nothing is happening.i have done hsg,and am ovulating also.all the tests are perfectly fine. my husbands sperm test is also positive.can u please tell me is it from the 11th day after my periods that i should trying and sholuld i try daily or alternative days.right now am having folic acid, clomid from first day of my period for 5days and duphaston from 11th day for 15days.doctor can u please reply fast so that i can start trying this month. Thank u.

Answer

The fertile period changes from person to person and also in the same person during different cycles. You can do a clear plan test to determine that. If you are taking clomid, it is essential that you have an ultrasound done on day 12 of the cycle to determine your fertile period and also that your ovaries are not getting unduly enlarged. Intercourse on alternate days if fine.

Question

My question is ...can loosing weight cause an IUD to move or shift causing pregnancy. I have lost about 30 lbs and am 4 days late . I have had the IUD for about 13 months .

Answer

NO . However, you can get pregnant even if you have an IUD in place. Also, losing weight can cause period irregularities. Have a urine test for pregnancy done . If negative, take duphaston tablets- one tablet twice a day for 5 days. Also, have your IUD checked.

Question

In January 05 my doctor performed a cryosurgery procedure on my cervix because he thought my discharge was too heavy. I explained to him that I didn't have a problem with my discharge, but he convinced me that there could be problems on down the line because of it. I subsequently agreed to have the procedure done even though I did not have an abnormal pap. Since then I have had very little to no discharge, and which doesn't help much during intercourse. To increase my discharge, my new doctor put me on nuva ring birth control, but it was wearing on my emotions. Since I couldn't do that I am now on Premarin cream.I'm 41 and I don't have any hormonal issues yet, but I need to know if the estrogen would help my ectropion reappear so I can once again have an asymptomatic discharge like I am used to.I can't find information anywhere its like no one wants to talk about it, or have even heard of the fact that a woman wants her discharge back.

Answer

Premarine vaginal cream will help to reduce your vaginal dryness. It should not cause your ectropion to reappear.

Question

I m 27 years old. I was diagnosed with PCOS an year ago and im on treatment for the same. im married for 1 yr 8 months now. for 1 yr, we didnt want kids, hence we started having intercourse only from feb 2006.

I had my period on 19th of July for 5 days. currently im on nacfil daily 1, ovafar 5-9 days, barkeit twice a day 10-18th days, and conjugase 7-12th day. i had follicular study on 12th, 14th & 16th day. i ovulated on 16th day. now, dr. asked to me to take gestofit 100mg, twice daily for 10 days.

I have a lot of faith in my dr. I also know women with PCOS stand a greater risk of miscarriage, etc. My question is, will i ever be able to conceive at all and will I ever be able to give birth to a normal child? do whatever, im unable to reduce my weight which should ideally be 59-62 kgs, but im 72kgs now.

I m really depressed with all this and sometimes feel like ending my life. im unable to take this stress in my life. please advice. Thx

Answer

Relax! Since you are ovulating, you can conceive. You must lose weight, as that will also increase your chances of conception. What is your husband's semen report and are your tubes patent? If these are normal, you should conceive .

The orgamed may sometimes cause the bloatedness. You can take disflatyl tablets for the same. However, you should have an ultrasound done to check your ovaries. If they are normal, you don't have to worry. You can conceive after the lupride course is completed. All the best !

Question

I am 29 years old and trying to conceive since 18 months. I have thyroid after marriage and 8 months back detected with pcos.i had one miscarriage with metformin and clomid. now I am pregnant again and my last menstrual period is may 29,2006. i had 2 beta hcg tests, they are doubling well first its 1250 then one week later it is 6952.last week, went for the ultrasound they said everything is fine and the sac is one which measured 11x11x11.heart beat is too early to detect.i went two weeks later that is 2 days back they are saying now I have twins and one sac is empty the other with baby but no heart beat. doctor my husband and i are very upset and totally confused. pls help what should be our next step. pls

Sorry to hear about your problem. Since there is no heart beat, nothing can be done now to save the baby. Let me know the results of your investigations like toxoplasmosis, blood sugar , thyroid hormones. Were the thyroid hormones normal at the time of conception? You can try for a pregnancy after 3 months, but let me know prior to that , so I can advice you further. Which city are you in ?

Question

Doctor, I m in 6 month if pregnancy, I know that I can identify the sex of the baby from ultrasonogram report. I dont know the exact parameters that i`ve to look for, Please help me out. i`m fine with any baby but eagerly want to know the sex of my baby

Answer

Ultrasound is never 100 % reliable for determination of the fetal gender. One looks for the scrotum and if it is seen clearly , it shows a male fetus,. However, the umbilical cord maybe mistaken for the scrotum or the scrotum may not be visulased , thus giving a wrong diagnosis. Every life is important, so you should stop worrying about the gender and concentrate on looking after the fetus .

Question

Hi I m 23 yrs old. i ve twice menstration tis month is it normal? i had period on 20 jul after sex its quite heavy n 2nd period on 3rd aug. i m married but ve abortion before

Answer

The bleeding after intercourse may not be a period, but due to an erosion on the cervix or some infection. If the problem persists, have an ultrasound done to rule out an ovarian cyst or a fibroid. Also, a pelvic examination will reveal whether you have an erosion or polyp.
