Question
Hi Doc. My G.f. Took A test To determine if she is pregnant two times it
came back positive ...she hasnt had her period since april first .so she
went and got a sonar done but there was nothing there to be found...she
seems to have all the symptoms..shes also alot of stress.were just very
confused at this point ..what do you think it could be?? The doc. said
:if you start to bleed go to the hospital" and notihng more..??? can you
help us out Plz...!
Answer
Do a blood test- beat hcg. This will give the value of the pregnancy
hormone. Repeat the test 72 hours later. if it is falling, then the
pregnancy is not growing and if the scan does not show anything, she
will not require a D& C. However, if the level is rising, repeat them
scan to see whether the sac can now be seen within the uterus. If it is
not, then there is a chance of an ectopic pregnancy ( pregnancy in the
tube ) and she should take treatment for that immediately.
Question
My aunt is 91. She never had children. She now has something protruding
from her vigina pening. What could it be?
Answer
This could be due to lax vaginal musculature ( cystocele or rectocele ).
It could also be the cervix of the uterus protruding from the vagina.
Question
Hello and this question is for the gal whom iam going to marry. She is 24
years old.She is having a 4.9 dia Dermoid Cyst in right overy and is
currently being suggested Novelon tablets for 21 days after periods. She
has taken many advices from doctors which vary from doing a laproscopy
to remove them while some suggests not to do so.we are confused
now. Please give us a solution on how to remove the cyst. She is currently
following the tablets prescribed(Novelon). Please guide us.
Answer
If it is a dermoid cyst, it would usually require surgery. See what the
size of the cyst is after the Novelon. If it is the same or increased,
she would need surgery. if , however, she had a simple serous cyst or
even an endometriotic cyst, there would be a higher chance of them
subsiding with medication.
Question
Hi, I've been having serious, constant & regular brownish/redish virgina
discharge before and after my period. This is usually accompanied with
severe pain and even down to my legs, and it's been difficult getting
pregnant. please could you be of help to me? Please help. I need a
better understanding of what is happening to me. I have seen
Gynecologist on many occasions to no avail.
Thank you
Answer
Please let me know whether you have done an ultrasound. If yes, what is
the result? Also, do you have a cervical erosion or a polyp? This would
cause the discharge and would have been detected when doing a pelvic
examination.
Question
Hi am 24 yrs and I had a chocolate cyst last year I under went surgery
so they removed my right ovary but I developed cysts on my left one too
I have be taking lupride depot for last two months what can I do coz I
don't want to under go another surgery coz I need too save my left
ovary?
Answer
Sorry to hear about your chocolate cysts( endometriosis). These cysts
tend to recur. You should take lupride for 3 doses and then repeat an
ultrasound. If the size of the cyst has reduced, you do not need any
surgery. Also, what is the size of the cyst. Very small cysts do not
require surgery.
Question
I have a 6 cm cyst on my ovarie, i was wondering what the normal
procedure to remove it, my dr. said he might have to go through my
c-section possibly. please help me understand the different procedures,
for removing it? help please
Answer
First of all, a C- section is done only to remove a baby from the
uterus. What you probably might need is a laparotomy- surgery where the
abdomen is opened and the cyst removed. What kind of a cyst is it? Is it
a simple serous cyst or an endometriotic cyst? Both these may reduce
with some medication, so discuss that with your gynec. before
considering surgery. Also, remember that cysts tend to recur, so you
must have adequate follow- up to ensure that they are not recurring
later.
Question
Hello Doctor! I would like to discuss my problem with you please advice
as I m in a very confusing and painful situation. Actually my problem
started when I was 18 at that time I was suffering from High PRL due to
which I got early periods (sometime 21 days cycle length some timed 15
or lesser) so I had undergone CT scan and MRI also as prescribed by my
doctor but there was not any tumour in the brain. Then Endocronologist
advised me proctinal for nearly 2 and a half year. Then I got married and
I left all the medicines upto 5 months my period were regular and i had
no problems then suddenly it started delaying(35 days long)then again I
consulted a gyna. who got all my blood tests done and discovered that my
FSH LH ratio is high (3.5 times)she gave me duluoton for 4 months then I
tried to conceive and that month i got my periods after 40
days(inbetween doc did a urine test which was negative) then she gave me
metformin for 1 month and then coupled with clomid then I got my period
after 45 days she told me to left clomid and give me cabergolin for a
month last cycle was after 45 days about 15 days! long and after 7-8
days I started getting on-off bleeding. I have also done ultrasound
which was normal, thyroid was normal insulin was normal even prolactin
was also normal only FSH,LH ratio was not ok. Now I am 261/2 yr
andmarried from 1 and a half yr. old want to conceive but not getting
success. I have taken metformin for 3 months still taking. My Husband's
semen analysis is normal. Plz help me doctor?
Answer
A high FSH:LH ratio is commonly seen in women with PCOS (Polycystic
ovarian syndrome). Please let me know the exact values of FSH & LH done
on day 2 or 3 of the cycle, so I can advice you further. A high
prolactin usually recurs, so whenever the hormone is high , you should
take medication like carbegolin. What dose of clomid was given? What was
the size of the follicle on day 12 of the cycle? Let me know, so I can
advice you further.
Question
Hello doctor, Dear Doctor, I am married for 4 years. I had 2
miscarriages. I have PCO. I conceived twice only after induction. Both
the miscarriages were spontaneous abortion due to opening of os. First
in the 3rd month and second in 5th month though I was on complete
bed-rest. Later my doctor put me on glycomet 850. I am on it for last 8
months. Glycomet helps ovulation, but I haven't conceived as yet. I also
to clofert 100 5 days from 2nd day of my period along with glycomet but
still did not conceive. Pls advise me what do I do. Also if I don't get
period can I take deviry tablets. Looking forward for ur reply. Thanks
Answer
Sorry to hear about your miscarriages. Are you ovulating with the dose
of clomid given ? What is the size of the follicle on day 12 of the
period? Was the first miscarriage a missed abortion ? Was a heart beat
present ? During your next pregnancy, you might need some medication &
surgery to prevent another miscarriage. Also, some doctors continue the
metformin during the pregnancy to prevent a miscarriage in women with
PCOS . Also, which city are you in ?Let me know the details, so I can
advice you further.
Question
Hello, I am a 30 yr old married woman... for 2 yr. I have pcos.blood
test normal.my husband sperm count is normal. I got pregnant once last
apr but follwed by a miscarriage and the doc advised me to take phenate
50. i try for few month and nothing happaned. try IUI once and it was
unsuccessful. now I am taking chinese medicine but the mense always
arrive late. should I go and try the IUI again? I am really hoping to
have a baby soon. Can u advise me what to do?
Answer
Are you ovulating? This can be determined by doing ultrasound. Also, are
your fallopian tubes normal after the miscarriage? This can be tested by
doing an HSG(hysterosalpingography), which can be done as an out-
patient procedure & does not require any anaesthesia. Let me know the
results, so I can advice you further. Relax & you should conceive soon !
Question
Why does my dr want to do a ultrasound befour I start taking clomid? the
nurse said reason was to see if I'm prone to cysts. I don't currantly
have any cysts.
Answer
Unless you do an ultrasound, you would not know whether there are any
cysts in the ovaries. These may not have been present earlier, but can
be present now. Also, an ultrasound would reveal whether you have PCO (
polycystic ovaries) . Women with PCO are more likely to have
hyperstimulation of the ovaries( excessively enlarged ovaries )
following treatment. So, the dose of the clomid can be advised
accordingly.
Question
Hello Doc,,,, This month my Gync did my endovaginal Ultrasound on the
third day of my periods which were induced and found that I have
developed mutiple cysts on both my ovaries(PCOS). She gave me
Metformin(500mg) twice a day. I m planning for a baby please let me know
if its possible for me to conceive.Coz in Jan when I did my progesterone
test it rised in the fifth week and I got my periods and then in March
my doc had given me Clomid but no ultrasound and no period and so I
changed my Gync as she was not at all communicative. The new Gync in the
first round gave me Prometrium (400mg )2at a time and then did my US. I
want to know is Metformin (500mg) the rite medication. And what does the
mutiple cysts mean. Do I produce eggs or not and can I
conceive........Please doc lemme know. I m waiting for ur response?
Answer
PCOS is a condition that is present in 5-20 % of women. So, you probably
had PCO before, but was only diagnosed now. Have an ultrasound done on
day 12 & day 15 of the cycle to determine whether follicles are growing
or not. Let me know the results, so I can advice you further. Metformin
does help one ovulate in some cases of PCOS, so that with clomid would
help. Women with PCO ( polycystic ovaries) have irregular periods and
irregular or absent ovulation, which can be treated by medication.
Question
Dear Doctor, Good Morning. Recently I underwent USG Screening for Pelvis
and PCOS was detected. (Age: 25yrs, height: 5'8'', status: Single) Pls
advise me as to how I can get back to my normal self. Also the point to
note here is that I do NOT show any typical symptons of this disorder.
- My periods are regular and the flow is
normal.
- I have NO acne or pimple problems
- NO cloths in my MCs
My weight is 68 Kgs...(is this okay fr my
age and height, because in the past one year i have put on weight
earlier it was 55 Kgs) I have a few queries for you, kindly address them
- How serious is this disorder.Given the
fact that i DO NOT have any menstrual problems, my flow is normal
,occurs at regular intervals.NO white discharge, NO cloths.
- Is this disorder 100% curable.I mean will
the ovaries be rid of all the cysts and become normal as they were
before, both in structure and function?.
- Can Stress/Tension alone lead to the
occurance of PCOD?.Because the last 2 years have been very very
hectic, loads of Study and hence did not have time to take care of
myself.
- Is it possible that inspite of having
cysts in the ovaries, PCOD may not be present and vice versa,
wherein inspite of having normal ovaries women may be detected with
PCOD?
- Also what should be done by the patient
apart frm medication to alleviate this problem at the earliest. And
also what should be avoided by the patient who is facing this
disorder?
- What medication do you suggest for the
same. What are the side-effects and are they major ones and... what
is the duration of the treatment for PCOS?
- Does PCOS affect the ability to conceive
in future.
- Can we adopt any other pathy apart from
Allopthy, say like homeopathy,Ayuerveda..to reverse PCOD
effectively? Will 3-4 months of Homeopathic treatment be sufficient
to handle this disorder.
Both me and my parents have NO medical
history, we all are very healthy touchwood. Also please see below my
report fr your reference:(quoted text) "USG - PELVIS (SCREENING)
CLINICAL PROFILE: - Stress oriented Hirtuism Realtime USG study of
Pelvis has been perfomed. Bladder shows normal contours. No intrinsic
mass or calculus is noted. No cystitis. Uterus is anteverted; measures
63 * 37 * 54mm in size and shows normal echotexture. No focal lesion or
fibroid. The endometrical echo is thin (5mm) and central. Ovaries are
bulky; show rather echogenic stroma with multiple immature follicles
arranged at the periphery. This is consistent with Polycycstic ovaries.
Right ovary measures 39 * 29mm while Left ovary measures 38 * 30mm in
size.
- No adnexal mass or cyst is seen.
- No evidence of free fluid is noted in
cul-de-sac.
- Cervical and vaginal echoes look intact
with normal endocervical canal.
- Kidneys show normal size and echotexture.
No calculus or hydronephrosis noted.
- Both adrenal regions are clear. No
hyperplasia or mass noted.
- No evidence of ascites or lymphadenopathy
is noted.
- Aorta and I.V.C look normal.
- Scanning of upper abdomen shows normal
echo-appearance of spleen, pancrease, empty gall bladder and grade-I
fatty liver.
IMPRESSION:-
Findings are consistent with Polycystic ovarian disorder. Awaiting your
valuable guidance and advise.I am really very concerned abt this since
all my life i have always been healthy and all of sudden this report has
send shivers down my spine
Dear Doctor pls guide me.
Can you send your response to the mail id provided , please at the
earliest?
Good Day. Regards.
Kruti
Answer
You are lucky that you do not have the typical symptoms of PCOS. An
ultrasound does detect the polycystic ovaries, but since you do not have
other symptoms, you do not need any further treatment. However, your
weight is high, so you should lose weight by dieting and excercise. The
following are the answers to your various queries :
- Since you do not have any problems, you should not worry about
it. As long as you are ovulating, you should not have any problems
even when you wish to conceive.
- There is no " CURE"!. Once the cysts are present , they remain
forever. However, you do not need to do anything about them. PCO is
present in 10-20 % of women and is often genetically determined.
- Stress does not cause PCO. However, stress may have made you eat
more and that is the reason for your weight gain . Also, women with
PCO tend to be obese.
- PCO is diagnosed when multiple small cysts are present in the
ovaries, so there is no question of " normal " ovaries.
- There is no need to do anything for this. Nothing needs to be
avoided ( except the weight gain).
- You will need medication only when you wish to conceive and that
too, if you are not ovulating.
- Yes.
- I am not aware of any treatment which can " get rid"of PCO. You
only need treatment for irregular periods or anovulation or acne or
hirsutism (excessive hair growth).
Stop worrying about this.
Question
I think I am pregnant but if I concived on the 6th and it is only the
11th will the pregnancy test throw a negative?
Answer
No. The pregnancy test is usually positive 15 days after conception. A
blood test- beta hcg would be positive around 12 days after conception.
Question
Hello. I had itching and two weeks ago I went to the doctor. It was
monday. She gave me Gynazole 1 day cream and took a paps test. On
Thursday she called me and said that I had Gardnerella bacteria and
prescribed me Clindess that I had to use the next monday. But since
Saturday I've been having a light pink spotting, I thought it was my
periods, but one week earlier and much more lighter. Can Gynazole cause
this spotting or can it cause earlier periods?
Answer
Gynazole should not cause the spotting unless the applicator was
inserted very deep and caused a slight injury to the cervix. It could be
an early period.
Question
I'm 30 yr old and trying to conceive now over a year. My cycle is 28-30
days. I have mild to painful cramping always staring 2 weeks before my
period starts. what does this mean?
Answer
Usually one ovulates around day 15 of the period, so the pain you have
is probably due to ovulation. You can do a clear plan test from day 12
of the cycle to determine which is your most fertile period.
Question
I have been diagonised with an endo cyst of 25 * 22 mm , is this
harmful? can this be treated? I have been put on tablet maintane for 7
days. I am finding difficulty on conceiving. Please advice
Answer
This cyst is small, so you do not need to worry about it. Repeat the
scan on day 5 of the period and let me know whether the size has
reduced. Once you get a period, do a clear plan test from day 12 of the
cycle to determine when you are ovulating and this would indicate your
fertile period. You can also do a scan on day 12 or 13 to determine the
size of the follicle(egg) . Let me know the results, so I can advice you
further. All the best !
Question
I had a miscarriage (missed abortion) in October and had D & C after
that. Post that my periods was not coming regular. So Doctor gave me
Syphene from Day 5 to 10 from periods starting, monitored thru
Ultrasound, gave me Ovutrium injection on follicule reaching 20mm size,
confirmed ovulation and then we planned for pregnancy. From ovulation
day, I am taking Duphastone tablet. Please tell me what this tablet is
for and whether it has side effects if used for few months? Also is the
procedure right?
Answer
Duphaston will help prevent a miscarriage in some cases. There are no
side effects except nausea or headache. . The treatment given to you
seems right, so I am sure you will conceive soon. All the best !

Question
Hi doctor, I m having severe pain in my right kidney, some times in left
kidney also, I went to homeopathic doctor he said that I got hormonal
dosorders, stomach disorders and some problem in ovaries also, I m 21
year ld and single gal, I m using medicine bt got no benefit, I m so
upset. pls suggest some thing for me?
Answer
Have a urine culture and sensitivity test done. This will determine what
type of infection you have and what is the most appropriate treatment.
Please let me know what hormonal and ovarian problems you have, so I can
advice you further. You must drink a lot of water to prevent recurrent
urinary infection.
Question
I am having heavy periods since last 5-6 months. I am 47 years. Last
three months I am taking susten 200 mg twice dailyfor 10 days . and then
pause mf for heavy periods. Still my periods are heavy. My other tests
like sonography, thyroid are ok. How long shoul I continue with susten.
Are there any side effects of Pause-MF, as I need to take thrice a day
for 2 days at least.
Please reply.
Answer
Susten is a progesterone hormone and should help to control the
bleeding. Since your scan and thyroid hormones are normal, you do not
need to worry. Let me know the ingredient in pause mf as it is not
available here and I could not get any information on that.
Question
Dear doctor, this is my third and probably the last mail to u. I have
written u twice and never got the answer. anyways, I had severe stage 4
endometriosis(age 27). I had laprotomy and laser to correct it. both my
tubes are blocked and I am going to reevaluate the tubes by having hsg
test on 10th. my progestrone is very good(45 on day 21). what are my
chances of conceving naturally? or if it is'nt possible how long should
I wait to get fertility tretments. I had absolutly no drugs after
surgery which was on 1st december 2005. plz help as soon as u can?
Answer
Your questions do NOT come to me directly. They go to the omanaccess
site and are then sent to me. You can send them an e- mail informing
them that the previous questions were not answered. Every question that
comes to me is answered and the answers are sent to the omanaccess site
and then they send the answers to you. So, you can check with the.
Anyway, I hope this answer reaches you! If both your tubes are blocked
or even if they are open, but you have a lot of adhesions around the
tubes( as detected during the laparotomy), IVF would be your best
option. If , however, your tubes are normal and there are no adhesions,
you can try naturally or do IUI to increase your chances of conception.
All the best !

Answer
- Have you done the clear blue test? This is reliable. If it is
still negative, see a gynec. who can prescribe you duphaston or a
similar drug.
- Stress can delay your cycle.
- Any of the hormones like duphaston or provera may need a
prescription. If you get provera without a prescription, use it
three times a day for 5 days. Or, if primolut- N is available- use
it twice a day for 5 days.
- Let me know the ingredient of cortal.
- You have to take some of the above mentioned medicine!
- If this is the only time this has happened, you do not need to
worry. If this recurs, have an ultrasound done to rule out an
ovarian cyst. Also, if the scan is normal, have your thyroid
hormones checked.
STOP WORRYING!
Question
Hi Dr., I have been on Cyrazette for a month now for the treatment of a
cyst I have in my ovary. I often get cysts in my ovaries that form and
finish by themselves. I didn't want to continue with cerazette as I want
to conceive my second baby. But after stopping cerazette I haven't got
my periods. My dr. recommended I use Provera for 5 days n wait for my
periods. it's been 8 days now n still no periods. I have done pregnency
tests n they r negative. I have always had regular periods with/without
cysts in my ovaries. Do u know what might be causing my periods to
suddenly stop?
Answer
You have not mentioned whether you are breast feeding (nor how old your
baby is ) . If you are, that could give delayed period. You should get a
period within 7-10 days of stopping the tablet. Once you get a period,
repeat the scan on day 4 or 5 of the cycle and let me know the result.
In the meantime, start taking folic acid tablets once everyday.
Question
Hello Doctor, I am from India,25 yrs old and I am a getting married in
july. My periods are usually around the 15th of every month.I would not
like to get pregnant for about a year from my marriage. Please suggest
me a suitable birth control pill that would help me prevent pregnancy.
What is the time i should start taking the pills and what is the correct
dose. As I am from India, Please do suggest me a pill that would be
available in India.
Answer
You will have to be seen by a gynec. to rule out whether you have any
contra-indications to the pill. Since I am not in India, it is best you
check with your doctor regarding this. Or, go to a pharmacy and find out
if Yasmin, Gracial or Gynera are available in India or any other pill
with the same ingredients. These pills should be started from the first
day of the period . Most pills have 21 tablets, so when you finish
taking these, you would get a period. Gracial , however, is for 22 days.
Let me know which pill you get, so I can advice you further.
Question
Hi I m a 20 yrs olg girl who used gracial tablets, I decided to stop
using it and become pregnant, I had 11 tablets left and after 4 days
that I have stopped taking it I got an unexpected period. Is there a
possibility that I will get pregnant? and is there any effects? I hope
you will answer this because it really bothers me...
Answer
The bleeding you got is not a "real " period, but bleeding because you
stopped the pill. Do a pregnancy test around the date when you started
the pill. Since you did not complete the packet, there is a chance that
you ovulated and then you could be pregnant.

Answer
Was the baby small ? Do you have any history of hypertension during any
of the pregnancies? Do you have a history of miscarriage ? In all these

throughout the pregnancy. Which city are you in ?
Question
Dr, I am 35 yrs old who has been diagnosed with pcos. I have one kid and
I do not want more. I do not want to take birth control pills throughout
my life to have regular periods. I have not taken them since Jan and
have not had a period since Jan. I am not pregnant(i checked). Now, I am
having a white discharge and little pain in ovaries. Should I be going
to the gynic to check it out or its normal to get a discharge instead of
periods? is there a natural herb I can take to get normal periods?
Answer
PCOS is associated with irregular periods. You maybe getting a period ,
as you have started to get pelvic pain. If not, do not wait longer for a
period. Take duphaston tablets- one tablet twice a day for 5 days. I am
not aware of any herb to induce a period.
Question
Dear Dr. I am 29 yrs old married female. I have undergone surery of
fibroid and dermoid cyst in the month on Jan 2005. My periods were
regular before marriage. I was on Loette OC pills from Nov 04-Nov 05.
Now we are planning for a child. After stopping pills I got periods
regularly for Jan & Feb 06. But then after Feb 06 I got periods after 2
months i.e on 22nd April after taking Deviry for 5 days with consulation
of my doctor. Even I was taking Clome for 5 days. Just few days back I
had USG for follicular study which shows my left overy had 31mm follicle
which according to Dr. is not repturing. What will be reason for this?
We want a child. Will I get pregnant? My thiroid, liver function, lipid
profile are normal. Can you help me in this matter? I will be greatful
to you.
Answer
Do you have PCOS (Polycystic ovarian syndrome )? This is associated with
irregular periods. Once your follicle is 20 mm, you can take pregnyl or
profasi injection- 5000 units, to rupture the follicle. All the best !
