Question,

I was trying to get pregnant from almost one and half year but I could not then my regular doctor asked me to take clomid - 100mg for 5 days in my periods. do you think this might help me concieve.

Answer

Clomid will help your eggs to form well. However, if you are not being monitored by ultrasound, you should take 50 mg a day for the first cycle. If you do not conceive , take 100 mg. a day. You must monitor your ovulation on ultrasound as that will let you know your most fertile period. Also, it will confirm that your ovaries are not forming cysts or getting hyperstimulated ( becoming very large ). Also, check your husband's semen. All the best !

Question,

My last period was Jan 18t found out I was pregnant but sadly had a miscarriageon March 2nd was 6 weeks and three days. On March 26th had a laparoscopy surgery since my doctor found an ovarian cyst. All was successful. I have not had my period and it's been a lil over 6 weeks since my miscarriage. I've already had unprotected sex and I am wondering if it's dangerous for me to have sex without having my reg period since my miscarriage. Any information will be gradually appreciated.

Answer

Ideally, you should wait for 3 months after a miscarriage before you get pregnant again. Repeat your urine test for pregnancy. If still negative, take duphaston tablets- one tablet twice a day for 5 days to get a period. Start folic acid tablets. You can try for a pregnancy in June. Was there any reason for your miscarriage ? Have your blood tested for toxoplasmosis, sugar and thyroid hormone as an abnormality in any of these can sometimes cause a miscarriage.

Question,

I have very regular periods and i'm taking birth control pills although I have forgotten to take pills in the last month. I had unprotected sex with my boyfriend 3 and 1\2 weeks ago. My period was due 2 days ago, but all I'm having is a light thickish brown discharge. I took a pregnancy test and the result is negative. Could I be pregnant or is there something wrong?

Answer

Do a urine test again at least a week after the first one out a delayed conception. If that is negative, this brown discharge can be considered as your period. If the brown discharge persists, see a gynec. who can examine your cervix and vagina to rule out any infection or polyp.

Question,

In 2nd of Oct, I deliverd the baby. and last month I had Abortion, For last six months (oct onwards) my periods are not coming on proper time, I m breast feeding to my baby, I do not know , why this month periods are not coming, Last month I had abortion on 8 of March, Please tell me it happens after delivery , My delivery was not normal.. Please tell me why this problem...

Answer

Your periods might be irregular till you are breast -feeding. However, it would be advisable not to conceive so soon after a miscarriage . You should use contraceptives- either a pill or an IUD (intra-uterine device or "loop ") till you are ready for another baby. You can also have an ultrasound done to rule out an ovarian cyst which can also cause irregular periods.

Question,

I am gonna get married on May 1, 2004 in just a matter of days so to speak, I know that my period is gonna come around that time, is there something i could take other than the birth control shot to stop it just for a couple of days or at least until we have consomated our marriage, this is really important to me, and again i do not want to take the depo shot i just need this temporarily

Answer

You can take primolut -n tablets - one tablet twice a day from the 22 nd of April for about 20 days to delay your period. Congratulations !

Question,

I wonder if chromones are not count right numbers if its low numbers can get pregancy or cant have preg?

Answer

You have mentioned " chromosomes are not right numbers .........". Do let me know the results of the test. Have the chromosomes for both of you been tested ? You mentioned "low numbers". Did you mean sperm count ? Do let me know , so I can advice you accordingly.

Question,

I have some small read bump in my genital area, which appeared after i shave, but its been a week and a half, and it has not gone away. Some times it itches and is sore, but outside of that, there are no other symtoms, and it look like smooth redish pink pimples, nothing big, chaping or nasty, what might it be?
Thank you for your time.

Answer

Sometimes the hair follicle gets infected. You can use soframycein skin cream twice a day for 5 days. If it persists or becomes larger, see a doctor as you might need oral antibiotics.

Question,

I have 1 year old daughter,This is my second preganancy and its 4 months and the scan shows 2 weeks behind, and the Doctor due to my previous bad obestric history has prescribed me pregnyl injection 1500 units, and Duphostan tablets 10 mg daily but due to that my rate of heartbeat is very high and feel so tired, shall i discontinue the tablets since now i am in 13 week.

Answer

I usully discontinue the duphaston after 12 weeks. But if you are still two weeks behind (due to a late conception ) , you would have to continue it till you are 14 weeks by dates. Usually, duphaston does not increase the heart rate. Have your hemoglobin checked as anemia can cause tiredness .

Question,

hello.. ive never had irregular periods, but my period is about a day late. i didn't ovulate either. could it be due to change in diet?. because ive started eating alot. maybe it could be stress because ive been thinking alot why my period hasn't come yet.
Thank you so much for your help Doc!.

Answer

You should not worry if your period is one day delayed ! A difference of 2 - 3 days is within normal limits. Stress may want you to eat more- so relax ! If you are concerned about a pregnancy do a urine test like clear blue.

Question,

Hello doctor
I got my periods on 11th april and i found some small red flesh like particles is it normal to pass this during periods . I am married no children

Answer

You probably passed clots (fleshy sometimes ) .However, if this bleeding was delayed compared to the previous one, you could be having a miscarriage . Do a urine test to rule that out.

Question,

Hi doctor
Since 2003 ive gained 60 pounds.
The summer of 2003 about july i bleed for a month and a couple of days.
Ive had a increase in facial hair.
im tired and have a loss in appetite.
I went to the doctor this february to find out why my periods are so irregular.March 9 it happened again my period stayed until now April 13 im still bleeding
He did an ultrasound and found that i had six cyst on my right ovaries. He doesnt want to diagnose me as having pco because he says all my hormone levels and thyroid levels are normal.
i dont know what to do about it. Oh i forgot to tell you im 21 and at 205 pounds. I cant afford to gain anymore weight can you give some suggestions on the causes of my problem.

Answer

You have PCO (polycystic ovaries ) and that is accompanied by irregular periods, increased facial hair and an increase in weight. 20-25 % of women have PCO- so don't worry about that. Was your testosterone hormone normal? A high hormone is associated with an increase in body hair. YOU MUST LOSE WEIGHT ! See a dietician and stick to a diet and excercise schedule to lose around 30- 40 pounds. It will be extremely difficult , but you have to do it . Once you lose weight your periods may get regular. If you are still bleeding, take exacyl tablets - one tablet three times a day for 3 days.I will be waiting to hear from you when you have lost your first 10 pound ! All the best !

Question,

I have just been through IVF, and 2 embryos were transferred 4 days ago. Yesterday I started to get cramps on the side, backpain and bladderpressure. Is this a sign of a negative result?

Answer

Relax! Do a blood test for beta hcg around 11 days after the embryo transfer before you worry about "negative result". Check whether you have a urinary tract infection , as that maybe responsible for the cramps and bladder pressure. All the best!

Question,

I have a red puss filled lump on my vigina in the crease next to the clitoris. It's not painful and does not itch but the inside of my vagina does itch and has more discharge than normal.

Answer

You must see a gynec who can examine you and give you the appropriate treatment for the lump and the vaginal discharge.

Question,

I was taking birth control pill last year and switched over to the patch. I was having some white discharge, but never thought nothing about it. When I went to the doctor he told me I had a yeast infection and gave me a diflucan pill, but the infection came back and I went back to the doctor and he told me that I may have trichonomas and a yeast infection. So he gave me another difulcan pill and some other type of medicine for the other thing. I took the diflucan pill when I was on my period. I still have white discharge, but i don't want to go back to the doctor. and I checked my blood sugar and it was 76 or something. I am a 17 year old female. I would like to know if my yeast infection is a side effect of the birth control or could there be something else. Please answer my question because I think there is something really wrong with me. Thanks

Answer

Relax ! Use canesten vaginal pessaries for 6 days to get rid of the fungal infection. If the infection persists, do a smear to check the type of infection you have- fungal, bacterial or trichomonial and take appropriate treatment.

Question,

This question has to do with amenorrhea. At the beginning of this year, I started a strict diet and exercise program. I had been exercising before this, but became more dedicated and focused after the new year. My diet has consisted of around 1200 calories a day with approximately 20-25% of my diet coming from fat and 25% coming from protein. I usually eat lots of vegetables, fruits, chicken, yogurt, oatmeal, and soymilk. I can provide more diet details if necessary, but I believe my diet to be a healthy one. My exercise program seems to be healthy as well. I do cardio 3-5 times a week and do some sort of resistance/muscle training 2 times a week. I lost an average of 1-2 lbs a week, going from 127 to my current weight of 115. My bodyfat has also gone from 25.4% to 18.4%. I do not want to lose anymore weight, so I've recently increased my caloric intake by a few hundred calories to prevent this from happening.

Since starting this exercise/diet plan, I haven't had a period, so I'm assuming that it's due to my weight loss and I have what's called athletic amenorrhea. I went to the doctor and she ran tests for pregnancy, anemia, thyroid, diabetes, etc. and nothing abnormal showed up. I have, however, noticed a weird discharge that occurs during the time I would normally have a period. The discharge is cottage cheese like, very thick, pastey, clumpy and off-white, and quite a bit comes out when I go to the bathroom. Assuming this isn't a yeast infection and my discharge stops within a few days, could this be considered a period? I'm just trying to figure out what this discharge could be since it's not red in color?

Also, why is my body not having a normal period and is there anything I can do to jump start my periods again without gaining weight and/or bodyfat or going on the pill?

Answer

The amenorrhoea is weight -loss related. Now that your weight will be stable, you should get regular periods. Use duphaston tablets- one tablet twice a day for 5 days to get a period . The short course of duphaston will not affect your weight. I think your periods should be regular after that. You have not mentioned whether you did an ultrasound to rule out an ovarian cyst. This can sometimes cause period abnormalities. Regarding your discharge- this is probably a fungal infection. You can use sporanox or diflucan tablets and canesten vaginal pessaries for your fungal infection. This white discharge cannot be a period as there should be some blood- brown, black, pink or red in a period .

Question,

RESPECTABLE DOCTOR
I'M 30 WKS PREGNANT AND I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH TRICHOMONIASIS.
MY DOCTOR SAYS MY PARTNER HAD TO BE WITH SOMEONE ALSE SO I COULD OF GOT IFECTED.. HE DENIES HAVING SLEPT WITH SOMEONE ALSE. MY QUESTION IS :
is this infection really sexually transmitted by having more than one partner? or could we have both made this disease?

Answer

Trichomoniasis is usually transmitted sexually, but transmission by soiled towels is also known to occur. Both of you will require treatment. He can use the medicines now. You will have to check with your gynec. regarding your medication in pregnancy. Use condoms to prevent further transmission till the infection is cleared.

Question,

I started my period on April 1st and it lasted 3 days then on the 5th I started to get a brown discharge and its now April 16th and Im still getting a Brown discharge daily. Whats Wrong?

Answer

Do a urine test to rule out a pregnancy as one can have spotting during pregnancy. If positive , see an obstetrician immediately. If it is negative, take exacyl tablets- one tablet three times a day to stop the bleeding. Also, do an ultrasound to find the cause of the bleeding- a fibroid or an ovarian cyst. Also, your cervix should be examined to rule out any infection or polyp which can give the spotting.

Question,

i was operated 5 month's back because of the left overy cyst&not getting the periods regularly now the cyst has re occured there. do it mean i am pregnent or it's the another cyst

Answer

What size is your cyst ?(You have mentioned it has recurred ) .If the cyst is small, some tablets might help to reduce its size , so that you do not need surgery again. Do a urine test for pregnancy like clear blue .

Question,

I gave birth on Jan 17, it is now April 1st and my period has been very irregular compared to before I was pregnant. I got it the end of February for about 2-3 days, but very light and in the end of march had a slight dark discharge for 1 day when due for my period. I know I can't be pregnant because my husband is military and has not been home since our daughter was born. I was told by gyn that is isn't uncommon for my schedule to be off for a few months after giving birth, but I am starting to worry and would like to solve this problem before my husband gets back from deployment next month so he doesn't have to worry. Is this a common problem and will it fix itself or do I need some sort of treatment?

Answer

If you are breast-feeding, the periods might be irregular. Since you had irregular periods before, you don't need to worry. However, since your husband is returning and you need contraception , you should start pills as soon as you get your next period. You can use a low-dose pill like yasmin or gracial which has minimal side-effects. You can also do an ultrasound before you start the pill to rule out an ovarian cyst which may also cause irregular periods.

Question,

i usually start my menstrual cycle with brownish discharge and some bleeding it last about 3 days and it is very unpleasent because it has a smell to it that i think everybody can notice after those 3 days i get my normal period still very smelly what can i do about this?

Answer

See a gynec. Infection of the vagina or cervix or a polyp can cause spotting prior to the period and also vaginal discharge. Appropriate treatment can then be given.

Question,

My husband and I were planning a baby. I have low progesterone, so I had 4 miscarriages until he doctor found out. I started taking progesterone supposotories the day after I had a color change from the ovulation kit. I took a pregnancy test in the afternoon the day after I was supposed to start. It was negative. I haven't done the supposotories since(it has been 2 days), but have not started my period yet. Could I be pregnant?

Answer

Repeat the urine test for pregnancy on the first urine in the morning. If that is negative and it is 15 days since your ovulation, it is unlikely that you are pregnant. All the best !

Question,

My wife has a problem with a severe burning sensation when urinating immediately after intercourse. We have been married over 25 years, and this is a recent development.

She has been prone to urinary infections over the past 2 years.

Answer

Have a urine culture and sensitivity test done. This will indicate the type of urinary infection she has and the most appropriate antibiotics that she requires. Also, what is her age and does she get regular periods ? During peri-menopause and menopause there is atrophy of the vaginal muscles and this pre-disposes to vaginal and urinary infections. Treating both would be required. If she is menopausal, premarine vaginal cream would help. However, consult your doctor before using the cream to rule out any contra-indications

Question,

hi! i just had bacterial vaginosis two weeks ago and put on oral medication for 7 days but i did not finish it.After few weeks it came back again and i notice that it happened after sex.I am having my pap smesr two weeks from now, does bv can affect my pap smear result? should i go back to the doctor for another medicine? Does condom have something to do with this bv? plese help!!!

Answer

It would be advisable to cure your vaginosis before the Pap. You will otherwise get a report which says "inflammatory smear. kindly treat and repeat " and you will have to do the Pap again. You probably had a recurrence because you did not complete the treatment or it maybe a new infection.

Question,

I have been taking the pill for a little more than two months. And, I have not missed a day yet. In my first month, everything went as normal, I just started my period a few days early. But in my second month, I started to have this fairly heavy, brown, discharge the week before I was suppose to start my period according to the pack. It lasted the entire week. So, I thought that I would start my period (maybe lighter than usually) the following week. But, I didn't have a regular period, only a little brown discharge. Should I be concerned, or is this normal?

Answer

If the pill is not taken at the same time, it does give brownish discharge. The pill also gives scanty periods. As long as your urine test for pregnancy is negative, you don't need to worry. Use the same pill for one more cycle. If the problem persist you can change the pill. Prior to changing the pill , have a gynec. check-up done to rule out any vaginal or cervical infection or polyp which maybe giving this brown discharge.

Question,

I had the deprovera shot on the 5 of july 2003 and Havent had one since then. I have heard that your period should come back within 3 months but it has been 6 months and I have got my period back. Can you help.

Answer

You should have had the period by now! Take duphaston tablets- one tablet twice a day for 5 days to get a period. If the irregular periods persist, do an ultrasound to rule out an ovarian cyst. If that is normal, check your prolactin and thyroid hormones as an abnormality in these can also cause irregular periods.

Question,

Hi, i hope u can advise me. I was taking Minulet contraceptive pil for about 30 months. I went off it in November , as i wanted to take a break, i have been getting my period , but not as regular but with normal bleeding. I've decieded to go back on the same pill. I had a period on the 26th of feburary , with normal bleeding . I took a pregancy test on Sunday the 4th of April, which was negative and on Monday 5th April, i got a very light period with some spotting. This only lasted two days , i took a pill on Monday as i thought it was the start of a normal cycle. I took one as well yesterday. I'm very concernced that i might be pregnant. Can you please advise.

Answer

You can repeat the urine test for pregnancy now. If it is negative, don't worry. Continue your pill and let me know how your next period is. You should take the pill for 11 months and give a break for one month every year. If the scanty period persists inform me and I can advice you further.

Question,

I had 2 c-sections with each of my babies. One was 5 years ago and the other 18 months ago. With each month when I ovulate, I get a very tender uterus when touching from the outside and feels swollen and aches on the inside. Some months are worse than others. It lasts about 2 or 3 days. I am wondering if I require further examination or if this occurs normally. Thank you.

Answer

What you probably get is abdominal pain during ovulation which is normal. Your uterus by now is within the pelvic cavity and you would not be able to feel it from the abdomen. However, you should do an ultrasound to rule out a fibroid or an ovarian cyst if the pain persists even after mid-cycle.

Question,

Hi, im 19 and sexual active with the same partner for over the past year. I have a really bad vaginal odor and i can't get rid of it. Im away at school right now so i can't see my gynaecologist for another month, but this is really bothering me. I shower and scrub regularly and i have used cleaning products, but it won't go away. Please give me some advise about what could be wrong with me, and what i can do to get rid of this odor that i've had for many months now, but seems to be worse over the past month. Thank you. please e-mail you answer, please.

Answer

You may have fungal or bacterial vaginal infection. You can use canesten vaginal pessaries for 6 days if you have a white curdy discharge indicative of fungal infection. If the discharge is yellowish, it maybe bacterial and you can use dalacin vaginal cream for 7 days. However, if the problem persists see a gynec.

Question,

Side effects and contraindications in treatment with Duphastone. Is it possible to take Duphastone in the same time with Tegretol, because there are problems similar to absances in the periods of ovulations and after the menstrual cycle. In the other days there are not problems. These problems are from my first menstruation until now,but the last 3 years I have a little more problems (I am 42 years) but all my problems are in that 3 days I had mentioned. Thank You very much in advence. I am waiting for your answer.

Answer

You have mentioned "all my problems are in that 3 days I had mentioned " Do let me know which 3 days of the cycle and what your problems are , so I can advice you accordingly. Do you have irregular periods ? Why do you need duphaston ?

Question,

iam 27 yrs old and iam over weihgt iam 5 feet 4 inches and i weigh 160 pounds i hav this problem since i had my second son at 22 yrs of age iam worried that i might hav harmone imbalance because ia hve all the symtoms like hair thick ones on my braest and i think an enlarged clitoris and ancan thosis nigricans if it is what it is i hav because my under arms and betweeen my legs skin is velvety and black please help me iam wporried nad it is very embarissing for me i can not feel confident about my self .teel me if i might use canestine cream on my darkened arae in case if it is a fungus

Answer

You probably have PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) This is associated with obesity and hirsutism (excessive hair growth ). Have your blood checked for testosterone hormone. Let me know the result so I can advice you accordingly. You will have to follow a strict diet and exercise to lose weight. Canesten will not help to lighten the skin . It will only help if you also have fungal infection - itching or associated with a vaginal discharge. See a dermatologist who can advice you regarding the dark skin.

Question,

I am really concerned because I have been having a brownish red vaginal discharge. It seems to be happening randomly. Sometimes it goes away and then comes back in a week. I am really concerned because most of the information I have been reading points to HPV or cervical cancer. However, I don't have any of the risk factors. I am 29 years old, but have chosen to remain a virgin until marriage. Therefore, I did not have sex at a young age, I do not use birth control, I haven't had multiple sex partners, and I do not smoke. I have an appointment with a gynecologist, but I just wanted to have further information before going. Is it possible to have HPV without it being sexually transmitted? Could the brownish red vaginal discharge be related to another problem? Please Help!!

Answer

Relax ! Don't think of cancer !! Have an ultrasound done to rule out a fibroid or an ovarian cyst which maybe causing the problem . Do you have any vaginal discharge or itching around the vulva ? Let me know that and the result of your ultrasound and I can advice you accordingly. You are unlikely to have HPV .

Question,

Hi, I am 23 yrs of age and I am 24 weeks pregnant. I just had the video report of the baby taken. The foetal weight shows as 1116 grams and the heartbeat of the foetus is 144, can you please tell me is the baby normal.

Answer

The weight of the baby and heart beat are fine. The heart-beat ranges from 120 to 160 per minute at this stage of pregnancy. However, what about the different organs ? Are the kidneys normal? Was the 4-chamber view of the heart seen? Was the head normal without any fluid collection ? Was the stomach and the urinary bladder seen ? These will tell you if the baby is normal. If you have a detailed report send it to me and I can advice you accordingly.

Question,

I have a prob. For some reason I have a small bump on the left side of my vaginal area and I noticed that it only occurs during my menstrual cycle. It doesnt hurt much but im scared that i might have something. I dont have sexual intercourse Im a virgin so what could it possibly be?

Answer

It is probably a skin abscess . You can use soframycein skin cream twice a day for 5 days. If it does not subside , you may need oral antibiotics. Don't worry! It is probably due to infection of the hair follicle.

Question,

i am on microgem 30(contrective pill) i have been getting dizzy spells and have put on weight, i have also gotten spots i want to cjange to cilest do u think i should change?

Answer

You can use gracial or yasmin which are lower in dosage ( and therefore side-effects) than microgem or cilest. However, you can try cilest and if it is O.K continue. If you face the same problem , you can change to the pills I have mentioned. By "spots " do you mean dark areas or red areas like acne ? Do let me know , so I can advice you accordingly.

Question,

how can hpv infection to infant from infeted mother prevented.is that 100% safe if we inform dr in the beginning itself.who will do the papsmear test.is it gynocologist or some cancer specialist?? thanx

Answer

HPV does not affect the fetus . However, during a vaginal delivery the baby can get infected and can get laryngeal papillomas. This risk is very low- less than 1 %. usually a vaginal delivery is advised and a Caesarian section is rarely required .

Question,

Hello Dr...
I'm 26, have been on birth control pills about 1.5 years now. This last month, when I was supposed to get my period, I instead only had a little brown discharge for about 3 days (my periods are usually about 5-6 days and medium heavy). Is this normal when on the pill? This hasn't happened to me before, and I haven't missed taking any pills. My husband and I aren't trying to get pregnant! Thanks!

Answer

Scanty periods can occur with the pill, so don't worry. However, do an ultrasound to rule out an ovarian cyst . You can change the type of the pill and that may increase the flow. Since you have not missed a tablet, you are unlikely to be pregnant , unless you had severe diarrhea or vomiting after the pill, which may have prevented adequate absorption.

Question,

hi,am 26 female,i have this irregular cycle and am trying to cocieve since eight months, after i took duphastone first three months then clomid for three cycles,it didnot work out.my progesterone level on 21 day of the cycle was 0.385ng/ml.and i donot have any problem with my ovaries no PCO.my husband sperm analysis is very good.my TSH,T3,T4 also are normal.now i donot know what next step to be done to get concieve!!and what i should take to make my cycle regular!! thank you

Answer

The progesterone level you mentioned is low. You did not ovulate during that cycle. if you were on clomid during that cycle, then you need to increase the dose of clomid. The best method to determine whether you are ovulating and when is by ultrasound. Have ultrasound monitoring done while on clomid. If you do not conceive in 2-3 months, do a PCT (post-coital test )to check whether the sperms are staying alive in the cervix and vagina. Also, do an HSG to check your tubes. Let me know the results so I can advice you accordingly.

Question,

I have an ultrasound pelvic result, the presence of an intra-fundic egg of 20 mm diameter in his major axis, without embryo visible. translating in an CLEAR EGG. I've been having nousea and vomit, and my date of last menses was at the end of february, I took only for 2 days norfloxacin, over the counter because I thought that was a UTI, but after the ultrasound 03/22/04
I stopped, My husband is an MD and he explained me but I want more information about a clear egg and what are the other causes that predispose a clear egg into my uterous? Thanks.

Answer

You said your period was at the end of February. If your ultrasound was done on 22/3/04, it could not have shown a gestational sac. You mentioned "intra-fundic egg ". An "egg " is in the ovary. Do you mean a sac ? Do let me know , as what you have mentioned is unclear.

Question,

Hello doctor, I appreciate your immediate response to my query. I am from Muscat. Since you asked me about the tubes i am giving you the details of my laproscopy. The result says the Uterus is of normal size & shape. Both ovaries are enlarged due to multiple cysts and 5 cysts in the right ovary and 4 in the left have been puntured. Methylene blue spillage on both tubes done
and the tubes are found to be normal (potent). Since i passed few clots and the bleeding didn;t stop after for 10 days i had to go see a new gyny. She suggested me to take Duphaston 10mg twice a day for 21 days (now i am in the 23rd day of my cycle and i started taking duphaston 10 mg from the 11th day and i have to take it untill 31st of this month and that will be the 32nd day of my
cycle). I have to see the doctor when I get my next period. This time she is going to put me on clomid 100 mg for 5 days and then do ultrasound on 11th & 12th day to check follicle growth. Please advise me whether I am taking the right treatment. Thanking you in anticipation.

Answer

If you take the duphaston before you have ovulated,it may interfere with ovulation. So , you must take duphaston only after you have ovulated (as determined by ultrasound ). If you do not conceive within 1-2 months, do a PCT and IUI if required . Both can be carried out at our clinic. The phone no. is 563181- you can take an appointment.

Question,

Dr. I have a problem. For the past 3 months i've been getting this greenish discharge. I've had the same partner for 3 years, so I'm sure its not a STD. But I don't know. Please help.

Answer

You must do a vaginal smear and culture, if required , to check the type of infection and take appropriate treatment. Std is "sexually transmitted disease " and includes many infections and can be transmitted even with the same partner.

Question,

I am 19 years old and ive have been getting viginal dicharge since i was about 12 or 13.my question is, is this normal? as i want to sleep with my boyfriend for the first time but i am very worried about this.please help thank you for your time

Answer

You must see a gynec who can see the type of infection you have and give you appropriate treatment. It is necessary that you treat the infection before you have intercourse, as you might transmit it to your partner.

Question,

Hi doc
First of all I want to thank u with all my heart n may god bless u for helping me soo much n so promptly. Ok as I told u in my prev. mail that I am detected with an ectopic preg on rt corneal on 18th Feb. n was given methotroxate on 24th Feb. for that n after that the bhcg is coming down my last bhcg was done on 8th march n it was 408 iu/l n I have to get another done on 23rd march, my doc said its coming down.lmp 3rd jan. Now as u have told me to get an hsg /laproscopy? Actually I hav got both done last yr. In my hsg my rt tube was patent but left could not be visualised.so I was advised to go for a diagnostic laproscopy ,n I got it done in may 2003 in which it was found that both tubes r patent n showed quick fill n spill ,uterus normal, saline washing was given, I had pco so cysts were punctured on both sides.
1. Now I had an ectopic on rt side, can u pls advise me further that do I need to repeat laproscopy /hsg?
2. And also that is there a chance that the tube is not reachable through vaginal route although lapro was reachable (my PCT was normal n good)?
3. N since my bhcg is coming down nicely can we have intercourse, if yes from when?
4. When will I have my normal periods now, since I m bleeding on n off for abortion r these considered periods?
5. Do u do ivf? What is its cost there in Oman?
thank u
GOD BLESS U

Answer

1:Whenever you plan a pregnancy ( usually about 3-4 months after the ectopic) , you must have ultrasound done to check which ovary is producing the follicle (egg). Try for a pregnancy only when the follicle is on the left side. If you don't conceive within 3 months of trying, repeat the laparoscopy or do an HSG to check that your left tube is patent.
2:Since your PCT was normal- no problem conceiving naturally .
3:You can have intercourse 1-2 weeks after the hcg has reached non-pregnant levels. As I mentioned earlier , avoid a pregnancy for a few months- so please use adequate contraception.
4: A normal period is expected after about a month .
5 : As IVF involves a long duration of treatment, it is advisable to do it in your own city. Find a clinic which has a good success rate. Your general practitioner will be able to advice you regarding that. You can try without IVF now & only if your left tube is blocked, IVF is indicated.
All the best !

Question,

I am 36 years old with one daughter and have been trying to conceive for the have had irregular periods. I had a D&C in July 2003 done because I past an enormous clot which the doctor thought was a misscarriage and it wasn't. In 1997 i was diagnosed with Endometriosis and operation was done and the right fallopian tube was removed. Now no periods for nearly 3 months.
My belly getting bigger and bigger and I have headaches. I've done one UPT test after 3 months no period but it came negative. Am I pregnant? Should I do another UPT test"

Answer

Since your UPT is negative, repeat it after one week. If still negative, take duphaston tablets- one tablet twice a day for 5 days to get a period. Have an ultrasound done to rule out any fibroids or ovarian cysts. Since you wish to conceive , do a test like clear plan to check whether you are ovulating or not. If not, your gynec. can give you clomid tablets. Also, since you have only one tube, have an HSG(hysterosalpingography) or laparoscopy done to ensure that your left tube is patent before you take clomid.

Question,

I'm 6-7 weeks pregnant at March 20. during this time I have used gyno-pevaryl 50 for 14 days, once a day.I finished them at march 10. I didn't know at that time that I was pregnant. could this be dangerous for the fetus and what might it cause? Please advise

Answer

Most vaginal pessaries have a local effect and are minimally absorbed into the body. The gynopevaryl should not cause any problem.

Question,

I'M 29 YRS OLD(WILL BE 30 IN MAY) AND I'VE NEVER HAD ANY CHILDREN. UNTIL RECENTLY, I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN REGULAR WITH MY PERIODS BUT NOW EVERYTHING IS ALL MESSED UP. I'VE SPOKEN TO BY GYN BUT SHE PRESCRIBED BIRTH CONTROL TO HELP REGULATE ME BUT IT DOESN'T SEEM TO HELP EITHER. LAST MONTH, MY PERIOD LASTED OVER 20 DAYS (ALL LIGHT OF COURSE - IRON WAS OK WHEN THE DOCTOR CHECKED IT). NOW I'M ON BC AND MY PERIOD HAS BEEN ON FOR 6-7 DAYS (HEAVY,HEAVY FLOW WITH CLOTS). I FEEL THAT SOMETHING ISN'T RIGHT BUT THE DOCTOR KEEPS TELLING ME THAT I'M OK. NOW, I FEEL WEAK,LIGHT-HEADED, AND SLEEP TOO MUCH. PLEASE HELP ME BECAUSE I NEED TO KNOW IF I SHOULD GET SOMETHING ELSE CHECK?

Answer

You must have an ultrasound done to ensure that you do not have any fibroid or an ovarian cyst. If that is normal. have your thyroid hormones checked, as an abnormality in these can also cause heavy periods. Let me know, so I can advice you further. Also, let me know which pill you are using.

Question,

I have had regular papsmears for the past 10 years and have never had an abnormal pap. I had my last papsmear in December - normal. I was experiencing an odd odor and I wasn't sure if it was a yeast infection or vaginitis (I have had both when I was younger) so I went to a gynecologist to see. To begin, she had difficulty inserting the speculum during the exam and then she told me IMMEDITALEY I had cervical erosion. By looking. I was also bleeding. I have had NO bleeding between periods, in my urine or post-coital. I have also NEVER bled during an exam like I did with this doctor. Is it possible cervical erosion was missed during my last pap, or that it has become so bad in 2 and a half months?

Answer

The erosion can be seen during a speculum examination, so it should have been detected during the Pap smear. Did a health worker do the Pap or a gynec ? It could have increase in 2 months. However, the bleeding you had could be because of the difficult insertion. A smaller speculum , together with a lubricant like KY jelly should solve that problem in the future. The erosion is not reflected in a Pap smear report except as associated infection in some cases. Do repeat the examination to recheck regarding the erosion and decide on the appropriate treatment like cryosurgery.

Question,

I have been on the pill for about 5 yrs and married for 3yrs. I got off the pill in Feb '03. I have never missed my period until March. I had very bad cramps as if I'm getting my period and had slight discharge but no period. I did a home pregnancy test and it was negative. I'm worried with what's happening to my body. I feel tired, emotional and at times dizzy. We're trying to get pregnant, I'm worried with what might be happening to me. Any suggestions? Thanks

Answer

Relax ! Stress can cause changes in the menstrual cycle.Since you wish to conceive, start folic acid tablets. We usually advice a pregnancy 2-3 months after stopping the pill. Use barrier contraception like a condom till then. A few cycles after stopping the pill can be irregular. Later,do a clear plan test to determine when you are ovulating as that will indicate your most fertile period. Have your hemoglobin done to find the cause of your dizziness. All the best !

Question,

I have a tilted utrus earier today i was having pelvic pain almost just like labor pains i couldn't move for at least an hr i hurt so bad i was in tears is this normal?

Answer

A tilted uterus , by itself, rarely causes pain. Have an ultrasound done to determine whether you have a fibroid or an ovarian cyst which maybe the reason for your pain. Also, do you have any urinary burning or frequency? A urinary tract infection can also cause severe pelvic pain.

Question,

i am worried because i had unprotected sex on feb 7, then on feb 14 i got my period, but it only lasted for about 2 days, i usually get it for 5, i really thought i was pregant because my breast started hurting alot and i was having a lot of cravings but today when i woke up i thought i had my period becasue i was getting the symptoms i usually get when im getting my period, but im really worried becasue there wasnt any blood, and and i am very regular and every month that i get my pd when i go to the restroom i bleed but this month that dint happen instead i am just getting a brown discharge, iam worried and think i might be pregnant pls help me?

Answer

Do a urine test like clear blue to check whether you are pregnant. If it is negative, repeat it after one week. If both tests are negative, the bleeding you had was your period. If the problem recurs, have an ultrasound done to check your uterus and ovaries .Also, have a gynec. check-up done . An infection , erosion or polyp of the cervix can also cause brown discharge.

Question,

I am 18 years old and have been taking ortho-cyclen for over a year. I am about to go on a trip for spring break and I do not want to be on my period. I was wondering if it is ok to take two packs of BC without allowing myself to menstrate? After the two months is over i will menstrate right? There should not be any complications right?

Answer

You can continue the pills for 2 months. However, if your packet has 28 tablets, the last 7 tablets should not be taken from the first pack and the second pack continued after the 21 tablets. Also, we usually advice a month off every year on the pill. Since you have taken the pill for over a year, once your spring break is over, you can stop the pill for a month.

Question,

hi about a week ago i had a sharp pain on my right side and now i have had a brown discharge for 3 days. what is going on? am i pregnant?

Answer

Please let me know when your period was and when you had the bleeding in relation to that. I can then advice you accordingly.

Question,

Hi, doc, recently I send you some question about my situation, hope you receive it, again.. Im 24 years old still single, but sexually active, but then me and my boyfriend had a safe sex, he,s using a condom, or if not, he do withdrawal, but at the same time way back April of 2002 - July of 2003 I also take a low dosage of birth control pills, without consulting my OB, so its impossible for me to get pregnant, then on Sept. of 2002 I was diagnosed of having a UTI, but then it was already had its treatment. During my last medication I do have a pregnancy test twice but it turns out negative, and,I just had my first pap smear last February 13 of 2004, my dr. do this procedure, because of the pain I felt from my lower abdomen, I also consulted to her to check why is it my period, has been delayed for almost 10 days, but then I still feel the symptoms of having my period, her diagnose was I had a Hormonal Imbalance, she told me to take

Duphaston for 5 days, So I take it from February 13-17 of 2004 as per instruction after a week I should have my period, but unfortunately on the last day or the 5th of my medicine (February17), my period came. On the 1st 2 days it was very light, then on the 3,4 til 5th day, it was very heavy. After that I had the result in my pap smear test which tells. that im negative for Intraepithelial Lesion or Malignancy>>> what does this mean?, Is having a pap smear test is more accurate than an ultrasound procedure?, Is Hormonal Imbalance really the cause of the delayed of my period. Ever since I had a regular period, I had my period every month, how come that suddenly my period changed at it becomes irregular. I admit that gain so much weight for the past 5 months, is
gaining weight really the cause of having Hormonal Imbalance. At the moment ( March 17, 2004) I haven't had my period, and Im afraid having missed my period again and hoping that it would come very soon..Could you also please advise what to do, to maintain or have my regular period again, or there's an effective medicine that I could take to help my period become regular again, or its just I should go on diet, to maintain my period once again.. Please helpppp.... please answer my question.

This are the Schedule of my period for the Past 14 months:
February 17, 2004 ( under medical treatment ( Duphaston Tablet)
Jan. 3, 2004
Dec. 4, 2003
Nov. 1, 2003
Sept. 30, 2003
Aug. 29, 2003
July 27, 2003 (Last take of Trust Pill / first take April of 2002)
June 28, 2003
May 31, 2003
May 3, 2003
April 5, 2003
March 7, 2003
Feb. 7, 2003
Jan. 10, 2003

Answer

You might have had a heavy period because you had a delayed one. If however, your periods remain irregular or heavy, have an ultrasound done to check whether you have a fibroid or an ovarian cyst. Both these cannot be determined by a Pap smear. Your Pap smear is normal- negative for intraepithelial lesion means that your cervix is absolutely normal. No malignancy means there is no cancer. From your menstrual period dates, you have fairly regular periods except for the delay in February. Stress, weight changes, change in climate, traveling and certain medications can cause delayed periods. Don't worry ! If you are putting on a lot of weight , have your thyroid hormones checked. Follow a low-calorie diet and exercise so that you do not put on further weight. Relax!

Question,

Hello..I am 23 and I have always had regular periods that have lasted at most 5-6 days. I got my period on the 28th day and had it for 4 days and then it went away and 2 days later it came back but it was only brown blood and for the last 4 days I have had brown blood every time i wipe. Is this normal?

Answer

Do a pregnancy test to ensure that you are not pregnant and this is not bleeding during pregnancy. Also, have a gynec. check-up done to rule out any problem with the cervix or vagina, which maybe causing the spotting. If the problem persists, have an ultrasound done to rule out any fibroid or an ovarian cyst.

Question,

Hi, I have a small bump on my cervix near the os. I am almost 25 and discovered it about 1 year ago before I had ever had sex. I have messed around-such as oral sex but that was 3 1/2 years before I discovered the bump on my cervix. So I am pretty sure it isn't an STD, but I am worried because any abnormal growth to me still means "abnormal cells" I wouldn't want this to develop into cancer. Do you know the cost of having something like that removed-I don't have health insurance. I think it could be a cevical polyp. Or if you have any other ideas about what it could be. It has grown

Answer

A cervical polyp can be diagnosed by a pelvic examination by a gynec. Is that how you were aware of it? You will have to check with your local doctors regarding the cost of the Pap smears as it varies from centre to centre.

Question,

I am 31 years old and wondering if there is any possibility I can be pregnant. As of today my period is 17 days late. I have NEVER in my life been more than one day late so I am very worried about this. My boyfriend broke up with me over 6 weeks ago. Since that time I did get my period but it was 9 days early which was very strange for me. Now almost 17 days late. I have been very upset from this break-up and my eating and sleeping habits changed. But I have been thru similar feelings from break-ups before and I never had this problem. I haven't been feeling nauseous and don't really see how I could be pregnant if I had one period since the break-up but am still concerned as to what could be causing this?
Thank you.

Answer

You are unlikely to be pregnant since you had a period after your break-up. However, do a pregnancy test like clear blue to ensure that the bleeding you had was a period. Relax and try to overcome your stress of the break-up. That maybe causing your sleep and eating disorders. Keep yourself occupied and you should be fine .

Question,

I had a missed misscarraige on Jan 16th 2004. During a follow-up check 2 weeks later, the doctor found minor products of conception still remaining. She gave me medication to clear it out which resulted in dark brown discharge for one night only. Following this I got my period (they were always regular) on Feb 15th. The periods were accompanied by severe pain near the left ovary and the rectum. Ultrasound results after the period showed no abnormalities. Now I got my period on March 15th. The bleeding is very light but again accompanied by severe pain. Please advise.

Answer

Since your ultrasound was normal, and you still have pain, you might be having pelvic infection . Were you given antibiotics after the miscarriage? Have your urine checked for infection and let me know.

Question,

i had breast tenderness in the first 2 months of pregnancy, now it has seemed to fade. my blood test came back positive and my obgyn said that my uterus was soft and had plug. could something be wrong?

Answer

Have an ultrasound to confirm that the fetus is fine. Breast tenderness may reduce even if the baby is fine. However, if there is a missed abortion the symptoms of pregnancy often disappear.

Question,

I am 23 years old and have been trying to conceive for the past 2 years. I have had irregular periods for the past 4 years. I had a D&C in May 01' done because I past an enormous clot which the doctor thought was a misscarriage and it wasn't. In December 01 I have a laparoscopy done and was diagnosed with Endometriosis. I was given lupron for six months. My period came on 3 months after around Feb 03' but was very irregular. July 03' I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism so now I take Synthroid. My cycles have been around 32-35 days long for the past 6 months. Not until recently I started spotting a brownish color blood around the 22 day of my cycle. I'm afraid there is something wrong because that has never happened before. Are there any chances I could be pregnant or of me getting pregnant? I can't tell when i'm ovulating and i've tried the ovulating kits and have had no luck. What is left for me to do?

Answer

Since you wish to conceive , you must see a gynec. who specializes in infertility treatment. An ultrasound around day 12 of the cycle will reveal whether you are ovulating or not. It will also demonstrate the most fertile period. Do continue the thyroid medication and check the thyroid levels every 3 months to ensure that the dose does not need to be changed. Also, what is your husband's semen report? Are your tubes patent? Endometriosis can cause some problems with the tubes.Regarding your brownish discharge on day 21 , I need to know whether this continues as a period or does it stop and then after a few days the period starts. Let me know., so I can advice you further.

Question,

On Feb. 6 I got my period. On Feb. 22 I had brown spots on my undergarments for 3 days and it stopped. But on Feb. 26 I got them again. It's brown (not that much) and it hasn't stopped since. Why am I having this? Please advise.

Answer

If this is the first time you have had this don't worry. Sometimes, other factors like stress, fever, medication can cause irregularity in the cycle. However, if this has repeated itself or does occur again, have an ultrasound done to rule out a fibroid or an ovarian cyst. Also, have your cervix examined to check whether there is any infection or a polyp. The spotting on Feb. 22 could have been due to ovulation.

Question,

I have a problem and i would like to ask for your advise. My name is layla and i lost my virginity approximatly 4 years ago.It happened without my will. I would like to know if its possible that one can do a small operation to get their virginity back. As for me i would like to get it back because if i don't then it will ruin my futures marriage life. Please inform and many thanks.

Answer

You will need to see a gynec. who can examine you and decide whether a repair of the hymen will be possible.

Question,

Hi, I'm a 20 year old female and for the past few months have had a few slightly raised red bumps around my genitals. I know they vary but I have looked at many pictures of warts but they don't look at all like what I have. I go through phases of itching but have always suffered from thrush and have had a few occurances lately. Around the same time a rash appeared on the back of both my thighs symmetrically - faint small red spots that are dry and rough. The back of my upper arms are similiar but to a lesser extent. The rest of my body is fine. A few months before all this happened I had enlarged cervical lymph nodes for several weeks which did not hurt but were just swollen and the back of my throat and mouth is commonly ulcerated and white. Not sure whether it is all related and what to do. This is really worrying me. Would appeciate it if you could reply as soon as you can. Thank you.

Answer

Regarding the thrush, you can use canesten vaginal pessaries for 6 nights. Also, use travocort ointment twice a day for the rash around the genitals. If you have recurrences of thrush, you may need to take some oral anti-fungal tablets. You must see someone for your enlarged lymph nodes.

Question,

I had an ectopic preg detected on 18th Feb. on rt coronary.
On 18th my beta hcg count was 840 UL / L
On 21st Feb. it was 1480 UL / L
My lmp 3rd Jan then I was given one injection methotroxate to dissolve it inside only on 24th Feb.
then after a week i.e. on 2nd march the beta hcg was repeated and the count was calculated in mili international units
I.e. 17,500 MIU / ML
Now I m a little confused as to whether it has come down or not, my doc said that it has but when I checked it on the internet it was diff it said that this is a normal preg count in the 6th week
Can u pls guide me doc whether it has come down or gone up
And what shud I do?
Thank u
God bless u.

Answer

I think you must have received my previous answer by now. Do not worry about the normal count of hcg-. This has a very wide range. As long as your level is falling - it's fine. You may need to repeat the hcg till it is zero or at least below 4 (which is normally counted as the non-pregnant value).

Question,

i'm 27 years old and i'm married recently i have a problem of dryness around my vigina and its very itchy. I clean myself very well before and after the sex.Can you please advice me what could cause this and how can i take care of it.

Answer

If your itching is associated with a vaginal discharge, use travocort ointment twice a day for 5 days. If there is no vaginal discharge, it is a dry skin problem . Wear cotton underwear only. Use oilatum soap and oilatum shower gel .

Question,

I am 31 and for 6 years, since giving birth to my second child, i've been suffering with Severe mood swings, hair loss and bad oily skin.Low sex drive, pains in my groin area and also bleeding has been irregular.Nothing seems to make sence. Can You please help in any way.

Answer

Mood swings are common just after a delivery , but not for so long ! So get hold of yourself and occupy yourself in things you enjoy doing. See a dermatologist for your skin and hair. Regarding your pain and bleeding, have an ultrasound done to sure that you do not have any fibroid or ovarian cyst. Are you on the pill ? Many of these symptoms can occur with some pills.

Question,

Hi for the past couple on month i hve been having this fould smelling vaginal secretion it kind of smells like gas. It usually occurs after my perid but someimes it occurs long after. my discharg takes on a yellowish-white tint sometimes also. from what i have read it does not seem like an std what do you think it is.

Answer

You need to see a gynec. who can do a vaginal smear to determine the type of infection you have and give you appropriate treatment. The infection could be fungal, bacterial or trichomonial in nature.

Question,

Hi, My period was late this month and now it's come, but the blood is brownish, I've had periods like this for probably 5 months now (this is the first time it was late). Just before it came this time I had cramps plus one night I woke up and felt hot, like i had a fever and I felt sick. I threw the blankets off and it wasn't too long I felt cold, the sick feeling went away and I went back to sleep. One other time I felt hot for no reason then a bit later I felt cold. Is this perimenopause?

Answer

Your symptoms do sound like those of peri-menopause, but you haven't mentioned your age !! These could also be due to a disorder in thyroid hormones - so check your thyroid hormones like T4 and TSH. Also, have an ultrasound done to rule out any problem with the uterus or ovaries.

Question,

I am 18 years old and I have always seemed to have a lot of discharge, lately though my skin has been dry and my vigina has been itchy after I touch it. It gets dry during sexual conduct and the smell in the last few months has changed also. It is not a bad smell or anything so is my body just changing or is there something wrong with me?

Answer

Regarding the dryness of your skin, use oilatum soap and oilatum shower gel. If you have vulval itching, you can use travocort ointment twice a day for 5 days. Is your vaginal discharge thick and "curdy "? If yes, it would be fungal infection and you can use canesten vaginal pessaries for 6 nights. If the problem recurs, see a gynec.

Question,

Hi, Im honey, Last February my period is delayed for about 10 days, ( My last period is Jan. 3 of 2004, usually, my period delays 1 to 2 days only ,every month) after that i consulted my OB, her diagnosis is Hormonal imbalance, then she told me to take duphaston tablets one tablet twice a day for 5 days, then on the 5th day, my period begins, but upon her instruction it will take a week before i could get my period. Then i had a pampsmear but the result it negative.(due to lower abdominal pain) My question is, why it so happenend that my first 2 days during my period that begins on the 5th day of taking the medicine, is vey light then it becomes heavy during the 3rd, 4th til 5th day, but then i still feel of lower abdominal pain,.. is it because of the medicine why i had my period, as of now sometimes i experience again some lower abdominal pain, is it because at the moment i am ovulating?, and is it possible to have may regular period back after i take that medicine (duphaston tablets),( this is the first time my period delayed for 10 days more, every month i get my period)) i'd become overweight 3 to 4 months ago? does this is the reason of having an hormonal imbalance?, the test that had been done to me is pampsmear, it is accurate? rather having an ultrasound to check if there is something wrong in my uterus.?.. please give me advise on how to prevent having an hormonal imbalance, is there are thing or food that affects or that causes hormonal imbalance? hope you you could gave me an advise.Thank you..

Answer

Regarding"hormonal imbalance "-do let me know which hormones were checked and what their values are. The duration and amount of bleeding during a period is different in every person and even different in the same person on various occasions. So, don't worry about that. A pap smear will inform you whether you have any problems with your cervix which may lead to dysplasia or cancer later on. Ultrasound will detect any fibroid or ovarian cyst. Once you let me know the details of your ultrasound and hormone tests, I can advice you further.

Question,

i have been diagnosed with prolapsed uterus and have fibroids. i have the mirena (i.u.d) i have had this for 4 years now.problem is i have been bleeding for the past 4 months now non stop.my doctor has placed me on primolute N.I am still bleeding though not heavily. what in your opinion is the matter? I am going to have a hysterectomy in July.Tests (smears) have all come back healthy.

Answer

The Mirena should make the endometrium thin and cause scanty bleeding. This bleeding maybe associated with fibroids. , which may have increased in size. In addition to the primolut , you can take exacyl tablets- one tablet three times a day for 5 days, provided you do not have any contra-indications for them. If you continue to bleed heavily , also take iron tablets to prevent anemiAnswer If the problem persists and does not respond to any medication, you can take decapeptyl or zoladex injections to control your bleeding till your hysterectomy is performed.

Question,

I am 27 year old, married for five years. We didn;t want to have a baby for first 2 years, and after that i tried getting pregnant for 6 months but of no luck. (I have a history of irregular periods, since my college days i used to get periods in 1 1/2 to 2 months) After trying for 6 months I met a gyny and she suggested me to take clomid to ovulate and she used to check for egg formation through ultrasound for 3 months, in that, 2 months i ovulated and tried to get pregnant but it didn;t happen. after that i changed the gyny and the new gyny found that i have cysts in my ovaries & also my prolactin level was very high, so i took tablets for 3 months for prolatin and also at the same time i took glucophage for PCOS. My prolactin level came to normal after 3 months but there was no change in PCOS. So the gyny suggested me to go for laproscopy surgery. I went to india in August 2003 and got the surgery done. After the surgery i got my periods after one and half months. the following month i didn;t get my periods but i had some spottings on the 32nd to 36th day of my cycle, again i went to the gyny and this time she gave me tablets to get my periods first. when i got my periods she asked me to take clomid (from the 3rd day to 8th day) and duphaston from 16th day to 18th day for 3 months. all these months i got my period on the 32nd day of my cycle. the following month (i.e. last month) i didn't take clomid and duphaston. I had spottings on the 32nd day and the next day i had thick brownish discharge for 3 days and on the 5th day i had little bleeding and also i passed 3-4 blood clots and now since yesterday i am having bleeing (not heavy) but the bleeing is like mucus. I am very much worried and thinking of going to another gyny now. Please suggest me as to what i can do next. thanking you.

Answer

Do let me know which city you are in, so I an advice you accordingly. Also, PCOS is a condition present in 20 -25% of females and does not "go away " .Don't worry about the PCO. You have not mentioned about your tubes- whether both are patent or not.

Question,

My daughter is 15 years old. She got her periods only last year. But one side of her breast is unusually larger than the other and her period cycle once every 3 months. I took her to a gyne. After doing a blood test, the gyne told me that it is because of higher testosterone and prescribed a low carb diet for 3 months. After that she may have to go for an ultrasound. Let me know if there is any other suggestion you have for this. Thank you.

Answer

Regarding her irregular periods and high testosterone levels, I expect that she may have PCO - Polycystic Ovaries. These will be revealed on ultrasound. It is present in 20- 25% of females and is associated with irregular periods, excessive hair on the body and ovulation problems. However, all these are treatable - so don't worry ! Regarding the difference in breast size, as long as there is no mass felt , nothing needs to be done. If the difference is very marked, then plastic surgery maybe required at a later stage, but only for cosmetic reasons.

Question,

My sister inlaw is 20 weeks pregnant and her cerix is getting soft what does that mean

Answer

The cervix does get soft in pregnancy. Check whether her cervix is getting shorter than the normal length ( as seen on ultrasound) .Let me know the details, so I can advice you accordingly.

Question,

I am currently 12 weeks pregnant and at 2 weeks i had an xray for scoliosis which was a full body xray.I was wondering what the effects will be,

Answer

You said at 2 weeks you had an X-ray. Does that mean on day 15 of your period ? Do let me know the date of the last period and the exact date of the x-ray. On the 12 week scan many abnormalities can be detected, when present, so you should have known those by now.

Question,

Hi I am 27 years old and have been TTC for 3.5 years. My last Menstrual was 1/21/04 I had a laparoscopy done on 02/16/04 and have not gotten my period since 1/21. I am scared that I may have been pg during the laparoscopy. It is now March 11/04 and I still didnt have a cycle. What harm will there be to the baby if I am pg scared to test.

Answer

Have you done a urine test for pregnancy? If it is negative and you have not yet got a period, take duphaston tablets- one tablet twice a day for 5 days to get a period. If you are pregnant, do an ultrasound to check how the fetus is and let me know.

Question,

Dear Doctor,
I am 26.I have been having irregular periods ever. For the last 6 months we tried to get pregnant but failed. My cycles were
44-45days.My gynoecologist first
doubted that i was not ovulating
at all.Since Nov. i didnot get periods till Jan. I tested negetive for pregnancy and was
administered Aygestin.I did get my periods after that on jan 27..
My doctor took a series of blood tests for hormone and glucose on feb 25..and the hormone level was
5.5 but my progesterone was 2.again on 1st march i had a few blood tests drawn and i tested positive for ovulation and my progesterone was 15..and the hormone 3.3.so my doc. said i'll be getting my periods within 14days of ovulation.Approximately on the 13th night i noticed some spotting and even i have cramps.
but no periods. Is there a possiblity that i could have blocked fallopian tubes thats not causing the periods .Please do advice me what to be done next.I have been reading about blocked fallopian tubes and i am very scared .please tell me what are the possiblities and what tests should be done next.
thanks in advance.....

Answer

Relax ! Blocked tubes do not usually cause any delayed periods, unless there are some other problems also.Since you have delayed periods, you maybe ovulating later in the cycle . You should do the clear plan test to check when you are ovulating . This will also determine your most fertile period. If facilities for ultrasound monitoring are available, that would be the best way to determine when you are ovulating. Also, has your husband's semen been checked ? Do let me know the result , so I can advice you accordingly.

Question,

I had an abortion done on Feb. 2, so far i did not get my periods, it just came spotted on the 29 Feb, an the same way March 3. Please advise me

Answer

The first period after an abortion is often abnormal. However, have an ultrasound done to check the uterus and the ovaries.

Question,

hi i am male 27 N my wife is of 22 she O+ve & i am B-ve we are trying to have a child from last 9 months but she couldent concive N yea we had all check up + an xray of vergina N i too have a sperm count but there is no problem to worried says the doc but i am worried that y its getting so delayed Well she has a normal manstrain cycle N we do all on between 12 to 18 days buts all in hase pls suggest us what to do?

Answer

Do a clear plan test to check when she is ovulating. This will let you know about her most fertile period. Do not worry and she should soon conceive . If not, let me know after 2-3 months. All the best !

Question,

Will a person that is not ovaluting still be having her period ?

Answer

Yes, one can get periods even if she is not ovulating. However, the periods maybe irregular, usually delayed.

Question,

I am trying to conceive, my period was five days late. One the sixth day I had a period for one then it stopped, I normally bleed for 4-5 days. I have done two pregnacy tests and they both read negative. I am urinating a lot and keep getting headaches.

Answer

Since your urine tests are negative, the bleeding you had should be considered as your period. However, did you repeat the second test around a week after the first one? Sometimes, there maybe a delayed ovulation and the test may come positive later. Check your urine for urinary infection.

Question,

I have been on Desogen 28 day birth control pills for almost a year now and i recently switched to Yasmin. I have never had un- protected sex with my boyfriend and i take my pills regularly.I have never had irregular periods and I was supposed to start my period on Feb 16,04 but i am late. my byfriend and i had sex on Feb.14. I have not got my period yet instead i have excessive amounts of clear/clotty discharge. I have headaches, cramps, and breast tenderness as normal but no period. Can you please tell me what is wrong with me!Could i be pregnant?

Answer

When did you stop the Yasmin ? You should get a period within 3-6 days of stopping. I presume the discharge you have is only white, probably due to vaginal infection. If the discharge is brown, it could be a scanty period. Also, did you start Yasmin on the first day of the period. If not, you could be pregnant. Do a urine test for pregnancy in case you haven't yet got a period.

Question,

Dear Dr I was amenoric for 4 month about 3 years ago Iwent to a gynecologist and she said that I should have pelvic sonography from that time I was done several pelvic sono some of them showes that I had ovarian cyst and some of them Fibroma the last ones that I done about 6 month ago showes that my uterou is enlarged showing at least 2 hypoechoic subserosal myomas 5 CMin RT side of the body and 4CM in LT side of the body my ovaries showes multiple small follicular cysts less than 5CM looking mildly polycystic my mensturation is irrigular with prolong duration (oligomenorric)I have mensturation every 2 or 3 month .Im looking forward to get your advises as soon as posible
THANK FOR YOUR ATTENTION

Answer

What is the size of the ovarian cyst ? Sometimes, the cysts are "functional " - due to hormonal changes and disappear without any treatment. You don't need to worry about the myomas. Repeat scans every 6 months to see that they are not growing in size. The scan will also reveal whether your ovarian cyst still exists. . Polycystic ovaries (PCO) are common and seen in around 20% of females. They cause irregular periods- so that explains your periods every 2-3 months. As long as you get your periods every 2-3 months without medication and the periods are not very heavy , you don't need to do anything about that. Whenever you plan to conceive, you may require treatment , as ovulation may not occur regularly in women with PCO.

Question,

i am 18 years old last year in august of 2003 i started to get nipple dishcharge from my left breast.it is now febuary 2004 and i have seen a doctor and got second opinoins and they still dont know what it is.the discharge is a blue-green-grey color.it comes out everyday and sometimes a lot of it.it is gross.i am married and i dont feel comfortable around my husband because of this.i am supposed to have a surgery done to take out the duct but now my doctor doesnt want to do it because of my age.what should i do?

Answer

The discharge could be fibrocystic disease or a ductal growth. If your prolactin level and mammogram are normal, you don't need to do any surgery now. Have regular examinations and if the problem persists, surgery is required.

Question,

I had a missed miscarriage at 10wks. Throughout the pregnancy, I had a few episodes of severe menstrual-like cramps that woke me up in the middle of night and lasted for 5 min. It would be so bad that I would be bent over or curled in bed in pain. I am pregnant again at 4 wks and have had 2 similar episodes at night (only). After last night's episode, I am now having yellow discharge. Could these cramps be a sign of another miscarriage or normal?? I'm worried that I shouldn't be waking at night due to these cramps...

Answer

You must see your gynec. who can evaluate you and sometimes give certain medication to try and prevent another miscarriage. Also, at 6 weeks do an ultrasound to determine that your pregnancy is fine.

Question,

Hi, I hope you can help me. Before my last period i had a few days of brown discharge. This month i bled last week in the morning for 1 day. Im now expecting my period and it hasn't come, just some brown discharge again. I'm extremely tired, have tender breasts and keep getting butterflies in my stomach. Im worried i could be pregnant but this brown discharge is stopping me from doing a test because it could be my period. Am i right in thinking this?

Answer

It would be advisable to do a urine test for pregnancy as your bleeding is not normal. You can get a clear blue test from the pharmacy. If the test is positive, you must see a gynec. If it is negative, wait to see how your next cycle is . If the problem persists, have a gynec check- up done to rule out any infection in the cervix or a polyp, which may give the brownish discharge. Also have an ultrasound done to rule out any fibroid or ovarian cyst.

Question,

I am a 21 year old healthy college student with fairly regular periods. I exercise alot, but I am not sexually active at all. I went to the gyneocologist a year and a half ago. She gave me a clean bill of health and I do not want to return. I am having a brown discharge in the time between my periods, that is kind of stringy and sticky. What is it, and what should I do. I really don't want to see a doctor

Answer

Bleeding during the middle of the cycle could be due to ovulation. Since you have regular periods of normal flow , you don't need to see a gynec. now. However, if your periods get irregular or heavy or you have bleeding in between off and on throughout the cycle, see a gynec.

Question,

hi,am 26 yrs,i had this irregular cycle from 8 months as my dr asked me to use duphaston for three months after that i stopped so i can try to get pregnent, i used the clomid for two cyclesClomid gave me 10 kg more to my weight so i told the dr i want to stop it cause i have already excess weight, she checked my ovaries on the day 10 of my cycle and said my ovaries are small then by checking my progesteron level on the day 21 from my cycle and it turned out to be 0.385 ng/mland said am not ovulating . ..my husband sperm test turn to be 80 million/ml..i would like to know what next step i should go for now..

Answer

Clomid usually does not put on a lot of weight. Check your thyroid levels to rule out any thyroid problem which maybe the cause of the weight gain. Also, do you have PCO ( polycystic ovaries)? PCO is associated with weight gain. Since your progesterone level is low, it would be advisable to take clomid so that you ovulate and conceive. If you take care of your diet and exercise , you should not put on much weight with clomid. If you ovulate with clomid(as determined by ultrasound) and do not conceive in 2-3 months, check your tubes. Your husband's semen count is normal. What is the motility of the sperms? Both count and motility are important. All the best !

Question,

Hi i am 27 year old & trying to concievebut i could't get success. My periods are regular & i have 30 days cycle. From last months i am feeling weakness, vometing in morning& gastric problems. But i still have my regular periods. I can not understand why this is happning.I am not conciving is there any problem with my fertiliy . Please tell me how i can know I am ovulating or not. Please reply.
Thanks

Answer

You can do a clear plan test to check whether you are ovulating . If you are, that will determine the most fertile period. Check your husband's semen . If that is normal and you do not conceive within 3-4 months, check your tubes. Do you have vomiting and gastric problems only before your periods ? That is common due to the hormonal changes. You can take some antacid like Maalox . Take care of your diet too- have regular , frequent meals. Avoid spicy , sour and fried food. If the problem persists , see a doctor. All the best !

Question,

I am 17 years old and even though I got my period when I was about 12 it still is irregular. My doctor told me it was because I was very athletic and that can cause missed periods but I don't play as many sports as I did when I was younger and I still don't get it monthly. Its been four months since I had it last and I know I'm not pregnant. About a couple months ago I passed out in one of my classes and I got blood tests done to see if I was anemic and it came back negative but most of the time I feel tired and weak. Is there something else I could have and would birth control get rid of these symptoms? Whats wrong with me?

Answer

You need to do some more blood tests to determine the cause of the irregular periods, as they should have been regular by now. On day 2 of your period , do a serum FSH & LH. Also, do prolactin and thyroid tests. Do let me know the results (with the normal range). Have an ultrasound done to rule out PCO (Polycystic ovaries ).Are your blood sugar and blood pressure normal ? Birth control pills will regularise your periods while you are on them . If all your tests are normal, and you wish to regularize your periods you can use duphaston tablets for 5 days from the 22nd day of the cycle for 5 days. Duphaston for 5 days will be a better option than taking a pill continuously for 21 days.

Question,

well i am 5 days after my period stopped and when i go to the restroom and whipe myself there is a lot of thick clear mucus. there is no smell at all and i do kinda hurt on my left ovary...can you please help.....i had a pap smear done 5 weeks agao and all is fine there...had a simple cyst about 9 weeks ago.....i am 47 and also when i start to my periods they do get more painful than before...please help..
..

Answer

Since you had a cyst and have pain, repeat the ultrasound to check whether your cyst has increased in size. That maybe the reason for the pain. If the discharge is clear you don't need to worry. However, you can do a vaginal swab test to determine whether there is any infection and take appropriate treatment accordingly.

Question,

I have 5 bumps on the outer lips of my vingina and two in the inner lip on the left side infact all of the bumps except one is on the left side. The bumps are like pimples.A red bump appears and then later it will have a white head.I have had the bumps for 3 days and it didn't happen until after I shaved with a new soap because I was out of my usual shaving cream and used sented tampons which I had never tried before.I have had 3 sexual partners and all have been tested and show no signs of STD's.So what could it be and what should I do? Please help.Thank you.

Answer

These are probably abscesses on the skin. Use soframycein skin cream twice a day for 5 days. If they still persist, you may need oral antibiotics , which your doctor can prescribe.

Question,

Hello, I am 29 years old and I have 3 children. My youngest is 5 and I had a tubal after he was born. My periods have always been regular, every 28 days and last about 3-4 days. Recently, maybe 2 mos. ago my periods started to get irregular. They still start at 28 days but I would start for a day or two and then I would stop and have a brown discharge for a day or two, then I start back up for a couple of days. Then this month I started my period and it lasted 8 days. I have never had a period last this long and then on top of that exactly one week after it stopped, it started back again. It's not as heavy now but I have had the bleeding again for two days. I guess my question is could this be anything to worry about and why do you think its doing this. Thanks for any input on this.

Answer

You should have an ultrasound done to rule out a fibroid or an ovarian cyst. Also check whether your cervix does not have any infection or polyp. If all these are normal and the problem persists, check your thyroid hormones. Certain other reasons like medication, stress, traveling, change in diet can also cause irregular heavy periods

Question,

PLEASE HELP!!! OK! I am a 21 yr with a 3 year old son. I just took a pregnancy test tonight and found out that I am pregnant. (FEB. 24) I had my period last month, but for some reason I feel that I am 2 months pregnant. I had sex in Dec. and my period was light last month. My periods are usually weird but I had sex last month when I thought I was off my period and bled really heavy afterwards for 2 more days. My breast are already really tender. I was just curious is there any way to tell how far along I am by the symptoms my body is going through because it is my second child. I am really scared. And all of the pregnancy test I have took since december came up negative I even took one, two days ago that came up negative. But today I took one and it came up positive. Please help!

Answer

A urine test is usually positive 15 days after conception. So, if it was negative earlier and now positive, you may have conceived late. You have probably conceived around 9th Feb.

Question,

About 8 months ago I had cryosurgery. My fiance and I have been trying to concieve a baby ever since then and we have had no luck at all. My periods are very regular. I have a six year old son. Please tell me if you think I will ever be able to have any more children.

Answer

Do a urine test called clear plan to determine when you are ovulating. That determines your most fertile period. If you are not ovulating, see a gynec. who can give you clomid tablets and you should conceive. Also, have your husband's semen checked. All the best !

Question,

I have had vaginal bleeding for over 8 weeks now I also have severe abdominal and pelvic pain with dizziness and lightheaded my hemaglobin is fine what are some things that could cause this?

Answer

Have an ultrasound done to check whether you have a fibroid or an ovarian cyst. If you are still bleeding, take cyclokapron tablets -one tablet three times a day for three days to stop the bleeding. Check with the pharmacist that you don't have any conditions that contradict its use.I presume you have done a urine test for pregnancy , as bleeding during pregnancy can occur. If your ultrasound is normal and the problem persists, check your thyroid hormones.

Question,

IS there a reason why my periods can be illregualr for like a year and then regulate for 4-5 months and now I'm skipping again? My husband and I are trying to have a baby. This month I'm feeling dizzy, eating more and tired. Pregnancy test came out negative. could there be something else wrong that's causing this. With my 1st child the embilical cord came off the placenta, but the placenta didn't separate. they removed it themselves by just putting a hand up there and ripping it out. Could there be damage from this?

Answer

Usually manual removal of the placenta does not cause any problems. You must have been given antibiotics to prevent any infection. Repeat the urine test for pregnancy - sometimes there is a delayed ovulation and conception (since you have irregular periods ) and the test comes positive later. If you haven't yet got a period and the test is negative again, take duphaston tablets- one tablet twice a day for 5 days to get a period. Do a clear plan test to check when you are ovulating and that will determine your most fertile period. Do you have PCO (Polycstic ovaries )? That is associated with irregular periods. Stress can also cause irregular periods- so relax! I'm sure you will conceive soon !

Question,

I am a 43WF with no children. I was dx with RA Arthritis 10 years ago and got off most of the drugs which I cannot get pregnant on. I am also Type II Diabetic-Rx's I take: Enbrel,Arthrotech & Amaryl. I had a D&C 1/04, due to heavy menstral cycle-golf ball size clots with heavy bleeding. D&C results were fine, however I do have a firbroid outside of my uterus and my uterus is almost twice the size of a normal uterus. On 2/12 I started my period. It started out light for three days then the last two days once again I had the clots, this time they were worse, they ranged in size of nectarines to the size of my hand. There was no heavy bleeding, just the passing of the clots. Maybe three or four every 1 1/2hrs. I became so anemic this time I had to have a blood transfusion two days later. I would like to try to have at least one child if possible. I know I have to stop the Arthotech and Amaryl. After the transfusin I began to slightly bleed again, I was given 10mg of medroxyprogesterone to take 2x a day. What causes these clots and is this going to jeapordize me trying to conceive? Is there some way to shrink or remove the fibroid with laser than major surgery? Maybe the D&C was not the route to take? Maybe adoption would be a better choice for me? Please advise.

Answer

You do have a lot of problems which might prevent you from conceiving easily. However, see an infertility specialist who can determine when you are ovulating and if you are not, give you appropriate medication. Also, check your husband's semen . If you do not conceive within 2 months, have your tubes checked. Your blood sugar should be absolutely normal when you plan to conceive. If after 6 months of treatment you don't conceive, think of adoption. You must remember , however, that because of your age ( above 35 ) and your diabetes, you may have a slightly higher risk of fetal abnormalities and miscarriage. All the best !

Question,

Hello Dr, Dr i had my periods after 6 months of delivery & breastfeeding now. Periods with blood clots didnt stop even after 2 weeks & Dr gave me primolut-N 2tablets 2 times for 21 days. Will there any side effect for my baby becoz of my problem and this tablet.I have a baby girl and is fed on breast milk. Before i had to take an antibiotic for infection and my baby had some reactions on her skin.Hope Dr could give a satisfying answer, thank you.

Answer

The first period is often heavy. Primolut may reduce your milk flow , but is otherwise quite safe for the fetus when taken for a short time. It usually does not produce any rash - so don't worry. If the next period is also heavy, take cyclokapron - one tablet three times a day from the second day of the period for 5 days to stop the bleeding. You may not require primolut then. Also, if the problem recurs , do an ultrasound to rule out a fibroid or an ovarian cyst

Question,

Hello I,m29 yo that just found out i,m preg on feb 10,04. this would be my first pregnancy. But I had a normal period jan 28,04 and my husband and i had sex on feb 4,04 and still was spotting light brown since this date off and on. Today feb 11,04 still spotting brown. Itook preg test in urine with pos results and hcg done on feb 10,04. Did i do the right thing. Is there something wrong with my baby?

Answer

If your urine test was positive on feb. 10th, you have conceived at least 15 days earlier. You probably ovulated between 25th- 29th January and that was accompanied by ovulation bleeding, which you are considering your period. When was your period in December? What is the result of the blood test? Have you done an ultrasound to check whether the pregnancy is within the uterus or outside ? The brown discharge you have could be due to a threatened abortion or an ectopic pregnancy. the ultrasound and the blood test will help. Do let me know.

Question,

"Hi", I have a question. I'm a mother of one and I have one on the way as of today I'm 19 weeks. I have been having a clear discahrge with no smell to it but I only notice it when I wipe after I use the restroom. I never had a discharge with my first child and I was wondering if this is any thing to worry about? I had a discharge when I went for my pregancy exam and she said I had no infection. Can you please help?

Answer

A clear dicharge is quite common. As long as you do not have any infection - don't worry. If the discharge increases in amount and you are worried, you can do a vaginal smear and / or culture to rule out any infection. If there is any infection, appropriate treatment can be given.

Question,

hi doc i have had brown discharge for weeks and weeks now im really concerned my doc has ruled out a cervical infection and has taken swabs im just in need of a second opinion what could it be? please put my mind at rest thank you

Answer

Since a vaginal and cervical infection have been ruled out, it would be advisable to do an ultrasound to rule out a fibroid or an ovarian cyst which may sometimes cause the brown discharge. I presume a small cervical polyp has also been ruled out during the pelvic examination as that is also another cause of the brown discharge.

Question,

FOr the past few months my periods have become virtually non-existant, one day no clotting just like water and terrible paun mid cycle, excessive hair growth. I have had an ultersound that showed that I have a bicon uterus, nabohian cysts and follicles on both overies. I am very concerned, the one time I was pregnant I miscarried and I have been having unprotected sex for nearly a year without getting pregnant. Can you help explain what all this means. I cannot see my doctor for a couple of weeks and I am sick with worry.

Answer

You probably have PCO where there are cysts in both ovaries and often excessive hair growth due to a high level of testosterone hormone. This is present in around 25% of women. It is also accompanied by infrequent ovulation and therefore irregular periods. If you wish to conceive do a clear plan test for 2-3 cycles to check whether you are ovulating or not and when you are ovulating. If you are not ovulating , you may need clomid tablets. The tablets should be taken under supervision, specially ultrasound monitoring. PCO is also associated with a high miscarriage rate. However, all these problems are treatable, so don't worry- you will conceive !

Question,

I have not had a period since Dec.7, 2003. Will endometriosis cover up pregnacy in blood test and in urine test?

Answer

Endometriosis will not affect a test for pregnancy. It may, however, cause irregular periods. A pregnancy test is positive 15 days after conception. You may have ovulated late in this cycle and therefore conceived late. Repeat a urine test around 15 days after possible conception. If still negative , take duphaston tablets- one tablet twice a day for 5 days to get a period. After a period, do an ultrasound to rule out an ovarian endometriotic cyst.

Question,

I have been having some itching and burning around the vaginal area and it usually occurs after my period and after intercourse, there is no discharge. I am being treated for a yeast infection but the problem doesnt seem to be getting better. Any Suggestions?

Answer

You can use travocort ointment twice a day for five days to reduce the itching. Also, if your skin is dry , use oilatum soap. Both you and your partner should take oral anti-fungal tablets simultaneously, to prevent recurrent infection.

Question,

i did my pap smear they say i have erosion on my cervix what causes and can it be cured?

Answer

An erosion of the cervix is more common after a vaginal delivery, use of IUCD and use of condoms or even after a D&C. Cryosrgery helps to treat it. It can be done in a clinic and does not require any sedation or anaesthesiAnswer

Question,

My left nipple has been itching right in the center. It looks like I have a couple of tiny blisters, but it could be just a little raw or irritated from scratching it. Do you have any idea what this might be? The itching never stops and makes my entire breast itch.

Answer Since it is raw and irritated, it also must be very dry. Use fenistil gel twice a day for 5 days. After that , use oilatum soap and apply a moisturizer or Vaseline to prevent the problem from occurring again.

Question,

i am 34 years old. I get my periods very regularly but last month i did not get my periods. I got a pregnancy test done which was negative but detected two cysts in both the ovaries measurinf 4 and 3 cms respectively.i was adviced to take duphaston - 12 tabs. I haven't yet got my periods. Is it possible for me to get pregnant. Pls advice

Answer

You should get a period within 10 days of stopping the duphaston. If you haven't, repeat a urine test as there may have been a delayed conception. Even if you are pregnant, don't worry about the duphaston as it is safe in pregnancy. Sometimes, the cysts also give irregular periods. If they still exist after the period, you may require some other medication for that.

Question,

Dear Doc, I am 30 yrs old & have a kid who is 2 & half years old, i have been using precautionary measures after childbirth but now want a permamnent solution to it, I mean, we (my & husband & me) have decided we dont want to go for another kid, so what can be done about it. Please let me know coz as my periods were delayed this time, I was under tremendous tension as to what needs to be done & was relieved onyl after i got them. Kindly advice
.

Answer

The best would be a contraceptive pill as that is the only method which is 100% reliable. Many low-dose pills like Yasmin, Gynera,Gracial are available which cause minimal side- effects. However, you need to check with your gynec. which one would be best for you. As long as you give a month's gap every year, and your blood pressure and blood sugar are normal, you can continue the pill for many years.

Question,

Hi, I have 3 questions!
1. I started taking orth-tri cyclen in dec 03 for 1mo, but wasnt able to start the next pack in jan04. I'm not supposed to start my period until the end of jan04 and i had unprotected sex (jan 23-24 04)like a week before i am supposed to come on; is there a chance i might be pregnant?
2.On jan 24,04 when me and my husband had sex it was some blood. What do you think that means?
3. For about a week (jan 21-present) i have been having a discharge, its really thick and usually is white or a light yellow with a foul fishy smell. Could i have an STD of some kind?
Thanks

Answer

In case you ovulated late during that cycle, you could conceive even a week before your expected period. The bleeding you had after intercourse (post-coital ) could have been due to a cervical or vaginal infection .Do a vaginal smear to check the type of infection you have- fungal, bacterial or trichomonial infection. You can take the appropriate treatment .

Usually intercourse two weeks after the cryo is fine and it should not affect the chances of healing. Your husband is not at any risk. Cryosurgery does not reduce your chances of pregnancy.

Question,

I am 24 and have 1 liitle 4 yr.old and I have been trying to get pregnant for alittle bit over a year. I went to the doctor and he said that my problem is that i am not ovulating strong enough. I have been on some pills named clomid for the past 2 months but i have not gotten pregnant. I get a period every month but sometimes have problems(really heavy)Do you suggest that my husband go get checked? or should I consult with another doc.?

Answer

Have you been monitored by ultrasound while on the clomid ? That would tell you when the most fertile period would be. If you are not ovulating with the dose given , the dose can be increased and ovulation assessed again. Do have your husband's semen checked. If that is normal and in spite of ovulating you have not conceived, do a PCT ( post- coital test ) . That will tell us whether your husband's sperms are dying within the cervix or not. Let me know the result of the test , so I can advice you accordingly.

Question,

I am 27 and for a week now I have noticed a small lymp (cyst) on the outside of my vagina nearing my thigh. Where your underware would lay. It is smaller than a dime and hard to the touch and smooth. Is it a Bartholin Gland? But is it not on the vaginal lips its in the crease to my thigh. Please email me back. THanks

It could be a small abscess on the skin . Use soframycein skin cream twice a day for 5 days. If it does not subside, you may need oral antibiotics.

Question,

My daughter is 15 yrs. old , she was on her period Oct.13th -Dec. it was light , but she got the flu in Dec . then she started to bleed heavy , she was put into the hospital where she stayed for 4 days she recieved 5 units of blood, the dr. did put her on a birth control ( Yasmin ) to get her Reg. they did an ultrasound and found 2 Cyst , but she went back for ck up and they are gone . She started her period January 9th 2004, which she should have only been on it 3 to 5 days it had been 18 days today .
She also had a Transvaginal Ultrasound done , her Uterus lining is Thick , what can be done and would this cause her to start a period and not be able to stop. She is virgin and I am worried !Please if you have an idea email me back ..

Answer

The cysts may have reduced with Yasmin . Since she has bled for a long time give her cyclokapron tablets- one tablet three times a day for 5 days to stop the bleeding. Also, give her iron tablets like fefol or ferrograd to maintain her hemoglobin to at least 11 gms%. If she was a virgin , why was a vaginal ultrasound done ? An abdominal ultrsound would give similar information ) Do let me know the thickness of the endometrium (lining ) and I will advice you accordingly. The thickness is best measured just after a period .

Question,

I am 20yrs old and got my period when I was 16yrs old. It has been irregular ever since I have recieved it, but lately it hasn't come for the past month - 2 months. This past summer I had a lot of pain in my abdomen and found out I had a cyst, but I didn't have surgery because it went away on it's own. I don't have pain now, but was wondering why my cycle hasn't been regular? Should I go on birth control to help make them regular? I have never had sex so I know I am not pregnant. Please help me!

Answer

You should do an ultrasound to make sure the cyst has not appeared again. A cyst may cause irregular periods. If the cyst has appeared again, you could take a birth control pill which will help the cyst to disappear as well as make your cycle regular. If there is no cyst , you can take duphaston tablets- one tablet twice a day from the 22nd day of the cycle for 5 days to regularise the period.
