Dear Doctor, i am 17 and i think i have thrush, i am also not sure if i'm asking the right doctor? I was wondering what are the symptons of thrush, my vagina is red and very itchy i also have white to yellow discharge. Can you get thrush if you are a virgin, because i wanted to ask my mum to get something to treat thrush but she isn't aware i'm not a virgin and i don't want to tell her.

One can get thrush even if one is a virgin. You can apply travocort ointment twice a day for 5 days. Also, you can use canesten vaginal pessaries for 6 nights. If you do not wish to use the vaginal pessaries, use diflucan tablet as a single dose.

Hi Doc,i m 25 year married for last 3 month.One day i found a small hard bean shaped structure near my vagina.i came to know that it's a Bartholin Cyst.
Now that lump has been reduced and is never pains.i m not facing any problem in any activites like walking or intercourse.My menstural cycle is very regular.
Plz suggest me,Is that neccessary to undergo surgery?

A bartholin cyst or abscess may reappear and then reduce in size with antibiotics or even without any medication. You do not need any surgery unless it gets very large and does not respond to medication. If it occurs again, you can use erythromycin tablets- 250 mgm three times a day for 5 days.

I just got my results for the Glucose and Insulin test from my doctor. The results came back good. No signs of diabetes. I do have Polyscistic Ovaries. Due to that i am overwieght and have other stuff too. I am trying to loose weight but it's hard to do so because I don't see too much results. Is it safe to ask my doctor for a drug to help with the weight loss and is it safe to take weight loss drugs with Birth control?

Polycystic ovaries are associated with being overweight. I suggest you see a dietician who can guide you regarding the correct diet and exercise, which you would have to follow regularly. I would not advice any tablets to reduce weight as these often have side- effects .Which birth control tablet are you using? Use yasmin as it does not increase the weight to a great degree . I work in a very hot place, and I sweat so much. the hair on my vigina get very sweated , and it leave a strong odor. what can i do to provent this oder from happen. it is very embrassing. my underwear and pants get very wet. please help me. there is no discharge, just a sweaty odor.

WUnfortunately, there is no treatment for the excessive sweating. Use cotton panties as they will absorb the sweat whereas synthetic ones would not and cause more irritation. You can use seba- med feminine hygiene twice or thrice a day to reduce the odour. Do you have any vaginal discharge.

I am 25 with no children and trying to concieve. I had my left ovary and tube removed in December due to a ruptured dermoid (15cm). Since then my periods have been irregular. HSH shows the remaining tube is clear. My doctor has prescribed Clomid, however, since then a scan has revealed 2 small dermoids on the remaining ovary (1cm and 2cm) which have developed since the surgery 6 months ago. Is it safe to start taking the Clomid? Thanks.

Sine the cysts are small, you don't need to worry. However, you will need careful monitoring to ensure that the cysts are not increasing with clomid. If they do, you can try injections like pergonal or puregon in the next cycle. All the best !

My wife last LMP was 06.05.05, on 12.06.05 we have an urin test which was positive. After 15 days i.e. on 27.06.05 we have done an ultrasound which shows the "SAC WITHOUT FETAL NODE" and advised to review after 2 weeks time. After 2 weeks i.e. on 12.07.05 we have another altrasound in which "Little Embryo - 05-06 weeks size" shown. Doctor advised a third ultrasound after another 2 weeks time.Please let me know whats going on?

She should have been 9 weeks pregnant on 12th July and a fetus with a fetal heart should have been seen. I think, unfortunately, this is missed abortion where the fetus has not grown well. If there is no heart beat even now, she may require a D & C. This could be due to various reasons like a chromosomal abnormality in the fetus, low hormones or toxoplasmosis infection. After the D & C , wait for 3 months before conceiving again. Let me know in 2 months time and I will advice you further treatment to try and avoid this again.

I am suffering with irregular periods ,i got married since 3 year and soon after marriage i have gone for m.t.p once and 2nd time it was ectopic pregnency, since one and half year i couldn't conceived. I am also suffering from hypo thyroidsm, polycystic ovaries and taking treatment for both, my doubt is that with tablets i could ovulate, i getting the good egg size, but my endometrium thickness is 7.8 on 18th day of my cycle eventhough i am taking premarine 0.625, morning 2 night2 from 7th day of my cycle.
I am very much afraid that this may effect my pregnancy, please let me know that can i have a chance to conceive if my endometrium thickness is 7.8, i am also taking iui treatment even though the thickness is as above

Are both tubes patent after the ectopic? You can start premarine earlier by the 4th day. Also, are you taking clomid? Change to injections like puregon or pergonal , as this may improve the endometrium . Let me know , the result, so I can advice you further.

I've been on Fertomid 50 for 5 days as recommended by my doctor. I thought after taking it I will fall pregnant immediately, but was disappointed when I got my period yet again. Relax! One cannot expect to get pregnant in the first cycle of treatment ! Have your husband's semen checked. Have an ultrasound done to monitor your ovulation. Also, have your tubes checked by hysterosalpingography. Let me know the results of all these, so I can advice you further.

I am 35 and I had a tubial early this year my last period was 25 Jun 05 and it seem normal. Last week I started lower ab cramping or having discomforted. By now, you would have got a period or missed one. You can do a urine test now. A blood test - beta hcg can be done around 12 days after ovulation and that can detect the pregnancy earlier than the urine test. If you are pregnant , have an ultrasound done at 5 weeks to determine that you do have an intra- uterine sac.Also, you should check every cycle which ovary is forming the follicle and try only when the follicle is on the side that your tube is patent. I'm 18yrs old.since april i have been gettin late peroids ( 3,4, 5 days late ).ma peroid is about a week late, i was wondering if antiboitics can can have an effect on your peroid. i had a urine infection and had to switch to another anitboitics quickly after for a bump that was on my behind. Hello doctor,

I have been having irregular period right from the beginning. I am 34 years old now and married since 6 years. I had a missed abortion during the first year of my marriage and never concieved after that. I have tried an IUI and IVF without success.
Iregular periods continue. All the tests HSG, semen count, hysterscopy have had no problems.
I want to start treatment so met our gynac. She advised a scan first and wanted me to undergo some other blood tests like, prolactin,fsh, laproscopy.There was brwonish discharge from 2 days and I met our doc today.The ultrasound shows a small blood clot inside the uterus. So she has advisd us to get a bhcg test to see if we are positive.
Does early pregancy look like a blood clot in the ultrasound? Or is this some early signs of some uterine cancer... I am worried please let me know, I am sceptical if it is a +ve pregancy..

Relax! You must have got the result of the beta hcg now and I hope you are pregnant! Blood clot is not a sign of cancer - so stop worrying about it . What is the result of your FSH , LH and prolactin ? Let me know , so I an advice you further.

Hello...I am a 43 yr old with normal 28 day cycles and seem to be ovulating every month. I am wondering what my chances are of conceiving naturally. I am about to remarry and I'm desperate to have a baby with my soon to be husband. I have done the home ovulation kits...I watch my cervical mucous and I also have pain on one side and my breasts get very tender. Do you think my tubes may be blocked? The problem is for the past 6 months I rarely get to have sex at the right time because my fiance lives out of state and only visits me once a month. I recently divorced my ex husband but had not been on any birth control for many years. I'm sure I had to hit it right some time or other. I do have 1 son who is 21 years old. I have hesitated to see a fertility specialist because it's virtually impossible to conceive a child when the timing just isn't there. I am assuming that I am not starting menopause because I do have a cycle that I can set my watch by. This is a good si!

You can check your hormones- FSH & LH on day 2 of the cycle. If they are within normal limits , you should be able to ovulate. However, you must do ultrasound to determine when you are ovulating and try and adjust your husband's schedule according to that. Have a hysterosalpingography to check your tubes. All the best !

Sorry to hear about your tubes. let me know the hysterosalpingography report as that will determine where your block is. Sometimes, there is tubal spasm and that shows it as a block .

Dear Doctor; I had a complete hysterectomy in 1996 due to precancerous condition in my cervex and large cysts. My mother died of endomedtrial cance at 54. I am now 59. Anyway, I have a yearly pap which have been normal. This year it the pain during the pap was extreme and I noticed light colored blood for about a week. That was in May. Just the other day I noticed a discharge again and when I press in the area of the opening of the vagina I get slight amouts of pink discharge. Since I have no uterus and my paps are normal, what could this be coming from? Thank You, Sandy

The discharge maybe from the vagina . Have a vaginal swab done to determine what type of infection you have. If you have had a complete hysterectomy, you do not have a cervix, so the pap is done on what organ ? Is it the vagina ? Let me know the result of the pap and the vaginal swab , so I can advice you further.

Dear Doctor,

Two week before we went for checkup,as period was stopped and my wife suspected something and while preganancy test ,it came positive.But doctor told to go for Ultrascan after 10 days as during that she can`t see the child hearbeat for confirmation.
But today we did scan and report came like below Impression : Early intrauterine preganacy of gestation 6 week .
Foetal node seen shows no cardiac activity
Uterus :
It shows a well defined gastation sac with good decidual reaction.
And we showed this report to doctor and she told do scanning again after 2 week and told to take MAINTANE capsule(ALLYLESTRENOL -5mg,colour-ERYTHRO) and ELDERBIT-ZC capsule (omega3 fatty acid vitamin and mineral capsule).
I doubt the way she give consultation as you know as this is first case of preganancy ,so like your help that seeing the above report and medicing ,,is everything normal or not.After how many month can we see heartbear of baby working.Please guide us for this.

Does your wife have regular periods? This maybe a late conception if she has irregular delayed periods. If the periods are regular, there maybe a slow growth of the fetus which maybe helped by maintaine. If there is no heart beat within 10 days, it indicates that the fetus is not growing and it is a missed abortion. Let me know the result of the scan , so I can advice you regarding further treatment.
