PCO (Polycystic ovaries)

Question

hi, doctor i m unmarried and abt to married in 3 months i am suffering from polycystic ovarian syndrome. Wht shd i do?

Answer:If you have regular periods and are ovulating, you do not need to do anything further. If your periods are irregular , have your FSH and LH blood tests done on the 2nd day of your period. If these are normal, you should ovulate and be able to conceive. All the best !

Question

i just found out i have poly ovarian. i am 19 and married. will it be easier to try to get pregnant know (with treatment) or will i have the same chances in a couple of years?

Answer:I presume you mean you have polycystic ovaries. If your periods are normal have an ultrasound done on day 11 tom check whether you are ovulating or not. If you are, and your husband's semen is normal, you can wait for some time if you wish. if, however, you are not ovulating, you should start treatment within 3-4 months as one does not know how long you might take to conceive.

Question

Hello Dr,I am mailed u twice but i doesn't get reply.I expect this time please help me.I am 24 years old i got married on may 7th 08.Immediately the next day of my marriage i got my periods. The next month i missed my cycle .But i faced the irregular periods problem before my marriage. And i went to Ayurveda treatment. It was ok ,then again i faced the same problem .my Dr diagonised PCOS by ultra scanning. And she prescribed Krimson 35 for 6 months .And she told there is 99% chance for me to get pregnant if i am mentally free. And i am regularly practicing Yoga . It is my 5th cycle. One more cycle is there to go.Please suggest me.

Answer: Your questions go to the omanaccess website and then are sent to me. Due to the overload of questions, all the questions are not sent to me. If you have PCOS , you need to check whether you are ovulating or not. This can be done by doing a scan on day 11 of the period. If you are not ovulating, you would need to take tablets like clomid from the third day of your next period. Irregular periods associated with PCOS may remain lifelong, and you do not have to worry about that. Treatment may help to regularise the periods temporarily or to help you conceive. If you have not conceived after Krimson 35, I think you should start clomid tablets.

B) INFERTILITY

Question

Had an hsg teston 7th of november 2008 which was normal.will I concieve am desperate

Answer:You have only mentioned about your tubes. If you are ovulating and your husband's semen is normal, you should conceive. If you are not monitoring your ovulation, have a scan done on day 11 of the period, which will indicate whether you are ovulating or not and what your fertile period would be. All the best !

Question

Dear Doc, I got married nearly 3 years back. Age is 37 and husband's age is 38. His mortility is low though sperm count is 58Mill. My hormone and other tests are normal. Docter has prescribed him Fetryl-M ,HeyForte and Neurobion Forte. But he is having a past record of Lever problem like Gilbert's Syndrome and severe acidity problem. Do you advise him to start the Fertyl-M as it is written in the medicine Precaution page? Please advise as I am very worried about his health and as well as a kid. Thank you very much.

Answer: Let him take the medication after food to reduce the problem of acidity because of the drugs. Check the liver function about one month after taking the medication and if normal, continue the medication. You have not mentioned the motility, but if it is above 20 % , you can also try IUI ( intra- uterine insemination) to increase the chances of conception. All the best!

Hi Doc,Am 25yrs in SA.Been trying for a bby for the last 2yrs ,My Gp gave me clomid 50g for 5 days after my period ..Started taking it from the 13-17/09/2008 but i didn't get my period in October and I bought a pregnancy test and the results were negative.I went to my gyny no the 1/11/2008 and the doc said its too early to say if its a pregnancy,My womb its still empty and I should come back the end of the month.I have irregular periods alwys after 35days.Wht could be wrong? Don't know if i should wait for the monthend.

Answer: You can do a blood test - beta hcg. This will confirm whether you are pregnant or not.If that is negative, take duphaston- one tablet twice a day for 5 days to get a period.

Question

Dear Doc, I am very distressed, please help me. I am married and trying to start a family. My last menses were on 16th Of September. I missed them in month of October and got pregnancy test done on 8th November which was negative. Hormone progesterone was found to be 11.41 ng/mL and proclatin was above normal at 34.03ng/ML where refernce value was 1.39 - 24.2. The Doc prescribed me Duphatan for 5 days and prolcatin till she asks me to discontinue it. I want to start a family. will i be able to concieve? Is the treatment appropriate

Answer: You have mentioned "and prolcatin till she asks me to discontinue it"- did you mean you have stopped medication for high prolactin? Since your prolactin is high you would require some medication for that. You need to check whether you are ovulating or not by doing an ultrasound on day 11 of the period. This would also determine your fertile period. Let me know the result of your scan and your husband's semen examination , so I can advice you further.

Question

Hi i am 26. I had my D&C on 31st of july, 2008. after that i have the problem of bleeding on and off. my doctor prescribed me famila but afer stopping the use of famila i got my periods with 5 days which are very heavy and does not seem to stop. i revisited my doctor and she gave me duphaston 10 mg 3x for 7 days then 2x for 15 days continously. bleeding is stopped but its 17th days today and i dont have my periods. Please advice.

Answer: You should have got a period within 5-10 days of stopping the tablets. Since you have not yet got a period, do a urine test for pregnancy .If that is negative, have a scan done to ensure that you do not have an ovarian cyst..

Question

I have been having an affair for the past year and am still having sex with my husband. I have developed a tenderness inside my vigina (rash like and it comes and goes) and it hurts to have sex with them. Do you think that my lover who I an having unprotected sex with could cause me to have this rash. Maybe because I only had sex with my husband for 30 years and now I am having sex with this other man could this be the cause?

Answer:You could be having the infection without any of your partners having it. Have a vaginal smear done to determine the type of infection you have and take appropriate treatment. Check with your doctor whether your partners would also require treatment, and treat accordingly.

Question

hi. i am 23 and i am pregnant. i had sex with a different guy early morning(3am) on the 19th of october. wednesday i had sex with my boyfriend and had sex 2 times thursday (morning and night) friday the 24th i took a opk and it was positive. we didnt have sex. but saturday morning the 26th my boyfriend and i had sex. wel i took another opk and it was negative. but later on that day i felt bloated and also the next day (sunday). wel i took a hpt on the 4th of november and it was positive. is it possible that the baby could be the other guys child also. it has been almost 6 days since him and i had sex? i mean, i had sex with my boyfriend while i was ovulating.

Answer:It is very difficult to answer your question, as one of your tests maybe wrong. If the opk ( i presume it is ovulation predictor kit ) was positive on 24th, you would ovulate on 25th October. If you have conceived on 25th November , the urine test would be positive only 15 days after that on 8th November. As per your urine test being positive on 4th November, you should have conceived on 21st October. So, either your opk is wrong or the hpt is wrong or is a very sensitive test detecting pregnancy before 15 days of conception.Check the sensitivity of the hpt to help you .

Question

I hadnt had my peroid for 2 months en nu im spotting blood plz help i realy need a baby

Answer: I presume you have done a pregnancy test and it is negative. You have to check whether you are ovulating or not. This can be done by an LH surge kit or ovulation detection kit . Or , have an ultrasound done on day 12 of the period to check the size of the follicle and that would indicate your fertile period. Also, let me know your husband's semen report, so I can advice you further.

Question

i am 21 year old girl who gets severe pain during my periods.now am been asked by my doctor to have Cycloset tonic for period of 3 months and Trapic M F,during the pain thrice a day.i would like to know if there would be any future side effects of this medicine.

Answer:I do not have any experience with these medicines,so I cannot advice you regarding that. I can advice you to take cataflam tablets- one tablet twice a day for 3 days during the period. Also, have a scan done on the 5th day of your period to rule out the presence of a fibroid or an ovarian cyst , which may also increase the pain.

Question

i am ten days plus late on my period and 8 yrs. Ago i had a tubaliagtion, my stomach is extremely bloated and i am discharging water like. What do you think is going on? Could i be pregnant?

Answer:It is unlikely that you are pregnant, but failures can occur after tubal ligation. Do a urine test for pregnancy. if negative, have an ultrasound done to rule out the presence of an ovarian cyst which can delay the period. Stress or any illness could have also caused the irregularity. have a pelvic examination done to determine the cause of the discharge and take appropriate treatment.

Hellow dc. i've have spoting that looks like implation for three month now and the urine and blood test are negative.blood test result:Beta Hcg <1 mul/ml.pls advice me on wat to do
