Hotel SHERATON Oman Muscat to organise a Swimming Gala, a day full of fun on August 11 from 3 - 7 pm at the Poolside. Maximum 16 teams will compete in the relay, underwater treasure hunt and tug-of-war events. The team that scores the maximum number of points will be the winner. Medals will be awarded to the winning team, first and second runners-up. Each competing team must have four members with minimum 13 years. At least one female member must be in each team. 14th Annual Arab Training Festival on 14th – 18th August. Organised by the Ministry of Manpower, it will be held under the banner of ‘Policies of Nationalisation and Issues of Job Seekers (Assessment and Future Visions)’. 12 Arab countries including Bahrain, UAE will participate. Pakistan to celebrate its Independence Day with a variety programme organised by Pakistan Social Club on August 18 at Dr A.Q. Khan Hall of Pakistan School Muscat. The artists include singer Samina Iqbal, drummer Zulfiqar alias Papoo Dholi and comedian Mastana. Samina’s melodious voice will revive the magic of late Noor Jehan. She has won several awards and remains perhaps the only singer who was allowed to sing Noor Jehan’s songs in her life by the singer herself. Papoo Dholi has a unique method of playing traditional drum ‘dhol’ combined with fusion of modern orchestra, creating all the beats and tunes with two sticks. Mastana is one of the most popular comedians of Lahore and is known for his wonderful mimicry of famous artistes. Entry through invitations only. An exhibition on ‘Environment and Water Resources’ at the Municipality Recreation Centre in Salalah until August 19. Organised by the Directorate-General of Environment and Water Resources at Dhofar Governorate, as part of the ongoing Khareef Salalah Festival, it features introductory pamphlets and publications of guidance and documentary films stressing on the importance of preserving the environment and water resources as well as efforts being made by the Ministry in creating public awareness. Lectures on environment and water resources will be held on the sidelines of the event.

Four-Nation International Football Championship in Salalah from August 20 as part of the ongoing Khareef Festival! Organised in association with Oman Football Association, the tournament will be played over three days on a round-robin basis on August 20, 22 and 24. The participating countries are Kuwait, Bahrain United Arab Emirates and the under-19 Omani national team.

Indian Social Club Kerala Wing in association with Oman Hockey Association to organise Sixes Hockey Championship at the Jabr bin Zaid ground in Al Wattayah on August 26. The tournament will be open for all expatriates and will be played as per the rules of indoor hockey. Each match will be played for 20 minutes with a two-minute break for the change over after ten minutes of play. The final will be played over 30 minutes. Khareef Fesival in Salalah 2005 will celebrate the ‘Frankincense and Family Gathering’ theme from July 15 – August 31, 2005. The festival will include traditional performance and folk dances representing heritage, arts and history of GCC Countries including Oman. The Festival will host famous Gulf, Omani and Arab singers in four musical evenings during the festival. Gulf Star Ibrahim Ba'Omar, Hussein al Gasmi and Dina Hayek will perform in the first programme, singers Abdul-Majeed Abdullah, Humaid al Zarei and Shams will take part in the second programme while singers Ahlam, Hamad al A'amri and Layla bint Naseeb will participate in the third programme. Singers Nabeel Shua'eel, Aryam and Salim al A'raimi will perform in the finale. The festival will host poets and other scholars, including poets Talal al Saeid, Hamid Zaid, Sa'ad Allosh and Wala Awwad. The sports activities in the Festival will start with a soccer championship for Gulf teams is being organised in Khareef festival from August 20 – 24, 2005, the participating teams are Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain. A shooting contest, an Olympic run and a snooker contest will also be held for government and private establishments in Dhofar Governorate. A special ceremony will be held to mark the Renaissance day on 23rd July.

New Information centres to assist tourists during the Khareef season are being opened in Salalah this year. These centres are located at Haridh (the gateway to Salalah by road), Salalah Airport and at Al Hussn traditional souq. A similar centre will be opened at the Municipality Tourism Centre to assist visitors during Khareef Festival period on July 15. These centres will provide assistance to the tourists through booklets, pamphlets, maps and useful tourism information such as names of hotels, furnished apartments, souqs and restaurants plus main tourism attractions such as mountains, springs, beaches, tourism sites in Salalah and other wilayats of Dhofar.

September Festival organised by Silver Falcon Enterprises presents Kumar Sanu in a musical extravaganza on 1st September, Shabash Anarkali, a play in Hindi directed by Nadira Zaheer Babbar on 2nd September, ghazal maestros Pankaj Udhas and Talat Aziz on 15th September followed by Arabic musical evening with legendary Ali Bahar from Bahrain on 22nd September and a fashion show by India's leading fashion designer J J Valaya showing his autumn-winter collection choreographed by Anu Ahuja as a finale to the festival on 29th September.
Kumar Sanu is one of the most prolific singers in the Indian film industry. With 28 songs, he broke the Guinness world record for the largest number of songs recorded in a single day.
The Hindi play ‘Shabash Anarkali’, produced by Ekjute Theatre Company, is a parody of the romantic love story Saleem and Anarkali written by Surinder Gulati. Ekjute, under the guidance of Nadira Zaheer Babbar has represented India in various international theatre festivals.
Pankaj Udhas is a great master of ghazal and has already visited Oman four times. Talat Aziz is one of the most versatile legends in the world of ghazal who expresses poetry with precision.
Ali Bahar, popular new generation Arabic singer combines rock, reggae and romantic ballads.
The fashion show by India's leading designer J J Valaya. The Valaya group designs, manufactures and retails fashion and lifestyle products, including apparel, accessories, home furnishings, object d'art, furniture and signature tapestries. The show is choreographed by Anu Ahuja, a popular model herself.

4th MRI Softball Cricket Tournament organised by Jazz Boys Cricket Club from 2nd, 9th and 16th September at Al Turki, Bausher, PDO and Shanfari grounds. Sri Lankan Holidays to host Sri Lankan Golf Classic, an amateur golf tournament in Sri Lanka from October 12 - 15 for avid golfers without the rigours of a professional game. The Airlines is offering special packages for the Golf Tournament starting from RO199 inclusive of economy class airfares, accommodation, airport transfers and transport to the golf course. The Oman Football Association (OFA) under-16 and under-19 leagues start from September 2005. The first and second division league for 2005-2006 seasons will begin from October 20 and will conclude in May 2006. Both the divisions have 12 clubs each. The third division league, which has a total of 15 clubs, will begin from December 1 and will run till April next year 2006.

Oman represented by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to host 2nd Conference for Businessmen from AGCC States and their Indian counterparts on January 28-29, 2005. The conference is next in the series of trade exchange Meeting between India and the AGCC states on February 16 & 17, 2004 in Mumbai. This conference will focus on co-operation in energy, research, development, telecommunications and co-operation in tourism in addition to discussing small and medium industries as well as other economic, commercial and investment topics.

35th His Majesty’s Cup Football Tournament organised by Oman Football Association from September 1, 2005 with a new format. The tournament was held in a knockout format but this year the initial phase will be a round-robin affair, the qualifying teams will face the knockout in the pre-quarters and quarterfinals, the semi-finals will be played on a home-and-away basis (two-leg system). This new format will provide more chance for the low-ranked teams in the initial rounds. 32 teams categorised in 8 groups with 4 teams each. The teams are as follows:

2nd ‘BA Public Speaker Challenge 2005’, an inter-school public-speaking competition for English-speaking schools in Oman at Grand Hyatt on November 11, 2005 in association with the Ministry of Education. The finals for this event will be held at Grand Hyatt on December 2. The competition is divided into 3 categories young, middle and senior categories, 3 winners from each category will be chosen for the Grand finale.
